That's a short tube header. The defunct Mopar Performance (Mike Leach) header is the only true long tube header I know of for the 4.0. I think if someone were to copy and market a similar unit for a reasonable price, they would sell all they could make.

i always thought flowmaster 40s sounded decent on a 4.0.  i run one with no cat and it sounds good at idle.  high revs sounds like crap, but so does anything on a 4.0.

The FM50 is pretty smooth up top. And I actually think the sound quality improved when I put the cat back in. Seemed to clean up the raspiness which I wasn't digging at all.

Somebody with a good unit to clone and a few bucks could make some money getting the barefoot Chinese children to copy them in 304 SS.

Yeah, but it would be a crapshoot if they would fit or not. It's really tight, so I'm guessing they wouldn't even be close..

You get what you pay for with them.  I bet if they jigged it correctly they could knock out near perfect reproductions that could retail for $400~.

The headers you see on eBay for $74 don't have much hope, you just can't do it for that cheap, especially since the eBay retailer still has a profit margin on that (probably only $7-14 dollars, but still, you can't build that with any degree of accuracy for $60).

The Chinese have been making all sorts of fake stuff that you would never know wasn't, aircraft parts are among that...

Agree completely with this.  Check out this thread.  I bought an eBay header, returned it and went with a Banks.  Pics show eBay header vs Banks header fitment.

That's the problem, and unfortunately it's inherent to the design of an I-6 engine. With an I-6, the crank throws are spaced at 120 degrees and the power pulses are absolutely uniformly spaced. At higher RPMs, the exhaust is just a uniform flow, there are no real pulses -- and it's pulses that make an exhaust sound good. That's why I gave up on turbo mufflers for the I-6 decades ago and now I just use OEM replacement mufflers.

IMHO, to get decent sound out of an I-6 you need to change the cam to a grind with higher lift, shorter duration, and less overlap, so the individual pulses are more "pulses" rather than "flow."

I've run a Flowmaster 40 for a while on my MJ. I would agree, sounds great at idle, but the tone gets really muddy at higher revs.
