I formerly used a shop in W. Virginia to do occasional chrome plating, but they have retired from the business. Anyone know of a good shop that still does quality plating for automotive trim at reasonable prices and a fairly quick turnaround?

One of the few industrial business here in town is a plating company. I called them to see about getting my head bolts plated, they have a $450 minimum.

I know the man who is head of maintenance there and I asked him why such an expensive minimum and if he could get it done for me cheaper?

He explained that everything is run in separate batches, one bolt or part, or 100 bolts or 100 parts, that they would not risk contaminating an entire batch by adding my 10 or 12 or 15 bolts. He stated that even the employees cannot get parts plated without paying the minimum and running a batch.

Just passing on what was explained to me.

I'll pass on those guys.   Good reasonable chrome shops are really hard to find now since the EPA has regulated most of them out of the business. There's got to be a few Mom and Pop shops still surviving somewhere in the US besides the gigantic bumper chromers who don't want to be bothered with small jobs....

finally chroming those tires?   :D

Good idea Pete.    :beerbang:  Didn't know they could do that.

Do you know anyone that lives close to a Mexican border town or visits there regularly?  It is the place to get good quality chroming done.

Otherwise phone your local heavy equipment dealers and see who they use for cylinders, they may still be dealing with a semi-local shop.

O.K. then let the guessing begin.

My guess is valve cover.

No, just fooling around with different grille options Mike. The valve cover was powder coated years ago.

I dunno.  I think Don's pulling our chain.  I'm guessing he's chroming the axles.  Can't have enough shiny bits under the truck. :D

different than this.  note the lack of diff cover bolts and how the pumpkin smoothly blends into the axle tubes.

Nope - wrong manufacturer.  It's one of the GM 10-bolts, 8.6 I think. I get them mixed up with the Ford 9' axles..
