gogmorgo
Found this cool tool today that could prove useful to some of us. https://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/jeep/index.html?screenName=customer&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm%28%27R%27%29 If you hit "equipment listing" on the left column, it lets you plug in a VIN and get the build sheet, without having to email Chrysler or go to a dealer, or whatever. It does come with the disclaimer that it only works on vehicles that were built after 1998, which is when ChryCo started requiring digital input of the build records, although many existing paper records were input so you can still get lucky on earlier builds. My MJ's build sheet came up, but as anyone who has contacted Chrysler for their build sheet will know, some of the AMC option codes have been reused by newer model Chrysler products, which may suggest some rather interesting options. Apparently my MJ has the "southwest edition" package which I guess is what includes the "door armrest storage light" and the "power rack and pinion steering". HOrnbrod
I tried and got some gibberish back and couldn't find any program to open it. What did you use?
Minuit
Apparently my '91 2WD came with a shift on the fly transfer case, the Italia Package, and an alcantara steering wheel Everything else is correct though. Does anyone know the significance of the spring groups? Apparently my truck has Group VIII front and Group I rear springs. Also I apparently have the VIN memorized. My '89 was actually more highly optioned than the '91 when new, coming with a radio(!) and mini console. Same springs as the '91. Doesn't say the paint color but does mention Atlanta. Maybe that's where it was shipped to?

HOrnbrod
That was it. I guess my Abobe Acrobat viewer was corrupted. Reinstalled it and it opens now. Thanks.
DesertRat1991
Interesting! I have a glovebox lamp?? Had to go look. Sure enough, a tiny bulb, pointing backwards into the box that I would have never noticed. Burnt out, of course. For you guys that know your trucks came with an OEM rear bumper, is it listed on the sheet? My truck didn't have a stock rear when I got it and I don't see a rear bumper on the sheet. And anyone know what "belt moldings" are?
HOrnbrod
One of the surprises I saw was the "BAFP 130 Amp Alternator" option my truck had. Obviously wrong - no 130 alt was available for XJs/MJs at the time. 90A was the biggie.

The front bumper is, though:
gogmorgo
I Suspect you'd have a "rear bumper delete" option, or a "Chrome rear bumper" or "rear tube bumper" if it had something out of the ordinary. Front bumper doesn't surprise me that it's on there either because you could get painted black, painted body colour, chrome, or painted a secondary trim colour... my '92 XJ is black cherry with silver flares, bumpers, etc. 3 hours ago, DesertRat1991 said: Interesting! Once you replace this don't overload the glovebox so it doesn't keep the light on and drain your battery... Not end of the world drainage if you drive every day, but if you leave it parked for a week or two at a time, in the winter... Yeah. No bueno. Minuit
No mention of a rear bumper on mine, but does mention the front bumper like everyone else. Took another look at the one for the '91 - it says Memphis, TN zone. I know the truck was sold in Dickson so this tool gives a rough idea of where the truck came from. Neat! Sir Sam
Same, 88 no build sheets.
Minuit
My 89 came up, but it's a very late 89 build. Mid 89 and later is probably as far as this tool goes.

gogmorgo
The forum I picked this up on, the guy was suggesting the selection of what got in and what didn't was mostly which box of files got picked up at random on day X, before '98. I would guess that the older the vehicle the further back in the room it would be buried. Chrysler historical supposedly has most of the paper copies and can look them up too. 12 hours ago, Minuit said: Took another look at the one for the '91 - it says Memphis, TN zone. My says zone for Alberta but I know from other Chrysler records (dealer lookup) that it was sold 1000 miles away in MB, build date Jan 22, in-service feb 8th. So I don't know what the zone thing really means.

HOrnbrod
It should because it's a Mopar. I tried a few 1990 VINs I found on the Comanche Registry forum and none of them returned any data.
Minuit
Maybe my particular 89's papers (yes Don, it's that one) was in a lucky box.
Byrdock
My May of 89 was in there too. Found out I have delay headlamps, didn't know they did that back then.

INjake89mj
Dual 730 Amp Maint Free Batteries Was this even a factory option? My truck does not have this option, but got me curious if it was even offered. But the rest was correct. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing!
