Was it an option?

My '87 Base doesn't have one and it looks awfully original so I'm led to believe that it never came with one.

The Base models (or SporTruck, in some years) did not include a passenger side mirror, and the driver's side was the silly "flag" style mirror mounted on the door rather than the typical XJ style mirror that mounts to the front corner of the vent window frame.

Mine has that XJ style but nothing on the passenger side.

Not right.

See if one of your doors has been replaced. There should be a tag on the drivers door -- the VIN and paint codes should match your vehicle.

According to the '87 Jeep Trucks brochure anyway, if you got the XJ style mirrors you got both. The only single mirror offered was the stupid useless one mounted on the sheet metal if I'm reading it correctly.

What type of mirror is it exactly? Does it have joysticks? If not, it might be original. I don't know. The brochure just says "manual" for the single mirror option.

I read the options listed by Minuit as "Black, Right, Manual" as...... the drivers mirror was standard, and the passenger mirror (right) was an option. "Manual" meaning, you have to push on the mirror to set them (like mine, and your driver mirror also).

My '88 had only the one mirror. It was rinky dink too. I remember a plastic base, but screwed into the door sheet metal somewhere. I think two screws. I might have that mirror somewhere.

I have those flag mirrors on both sides of my Eliminator. Good lord those things are useless. Flat out dangerous to depend on. It seems no matter how you set them there's a significant blind spot somewhere. It's like their set to far back towards the rear on the door.

The Eliminator didn't have "flag" mirrors. Your mirrors should look like the one in Jtrux's photos (above). The "flag" mirror refers to the el cheapo mirror that screws to the outside of the driver's door, through the door skin.

Like this one:

I see what your getting at now. I remember those mirrors. You saw them allot on smaller foreign cars. I thing I had an RX-7 with a pair.

Are these considered the flags.

No, those are the towing mirrors. The "flag" mirrors are the ones like in the link I posted above.

Didn't intend to high jack thread but were these a dealer option?

Not likely,

Mine are factory installed.

The tow mirrors require an internal bracing to support them.  It is unlikely the dealer would disassemble the door to install the bracing, then install the mirror, THEN reassemble the door.
