Tell me what you think of these wheels.

I have the chance to get these like new wheels and tires at a killer price. They might have a thousand miles on them tops. I can get them for $400 for the set of four. They are stock JK size 255/75R17 (32"). Same size I have on the truck now. The wheels are at 4 1/4" backspacing compared to stock JK at 5 3/4" giving me an extra 1 1/2" width on each side which might be good. I know Firestones arent anybody's favorite tire but for the price it might not matter. Anyways here's a pic.

The tires are great. I had them for a  long time on a WJ. They wear like iron on the street but will chunk in the rocks very quickly. Keep them rotated or you will get DW after about 4500 miles. All in all they are a good setup.

I've had those tires on other vehicles and echo what Bo said - they are great tires and look good too. They do get a bit noisy on the street after they get a little wear, but no more than other MT tires. The BS of the wheels however will cause the tires to stick out an inch or so past the flares, and I personally wouldn't care for that. Plus I don't think I'd like those wheels on my MJ either - they are too busy for me.

 

It is a good deal though. I'd grab the set, use the tires, then sell the wheels. You would probably end up with a free set of tires.  :thumbsup:

Personally don't like the wheels but still think it's a good buy for you if you like them. You could probably sell either the wheels or the tires for $400 and break even on the deal. Or, sell both and make $400.

255/75 is roughly a 10-inch section width, I vote you try them on for size! :)

I see those wheels a lot around here and I really don't think they would work on an old school MJ. Just my opinion.

I had to use adapters to put JK wheels on my MJ.

With adapters and less back spacing you are going to be 2"-2.5" wider per side.

Plus with the 10" tire you will be past the flares.

I already have JK wheels and spidertrax adapters on my 87. These will bolt right up and be out 1 1/2" on each side from what I have already.

I'll make the apples to oranges comparison, hopefully it will be beneficial to you:

1) I got a SCREAMIN!!! deal on some JK Sahara wheels with 255/70-18 tires. They are the same "nominal" 32-inches tall and 10-inches wide. I installed them with 1-3/8-inch thick adapters, so I think the wheel/tire center line is less than 1/2-inch outboard of the stock location. I was really happy the tread did not stick out past the flares at the top; just my preference.

 

2) My XJ has a Frankenstein lift, roughly 4-inches in the front, 5-inches in the back. It has JKS Quick Disconnects on the front sway bar. I secure them at the top of the wheel well when I go off road. With the tires at full stuff, they rub the stock flares. If I have a front wheel at full stuff and am turning away from that wheel, the tread shoulder catches on the sway bar disconnect.

 

With your planned lift, and the offset these wheels have, you would hopefully have enough clearance to avoid rubbing.

I don't have the wheels yet, but they are set aside for me at my delaership. Ill be paying for them after Christmas. Ill be teaching a steering and suspension night class at the local community college for the spring semester so the lift on my truck will be a class project. Ill have the wheels on it at that point. I taught brakes last semester and got most of the WJ booster and master swap done. I just need to finish a few things up on that as we ran out of time to finish it. Ill update as I can.
