88whitemanche
What's up guys So I got an set of 2wd springs that I've been wanting to either combine my current leaf pack or rearch them... My current springs are super saggy! Although it's my dd/weekend warrior I still use the bed a lot. But it seems every time I use it the springs are getting worse and worse... The shop isnt charging me much to do the work just wondering if it's worth the work? What is your take on rearching springs?
Pete M
from what I've read, re-arching is kind of a temporary thing, meaning they will just go back to where they were before. :( and it won't increase the rate so they will still sag under a load. I vote for a combo pack. use the 2wd pack's main (or whichever main is in better shape), cut the eyes off the other mains as leaf #2, then the next 4wd leaf, then its matching 2wd, then 4wd, then its matching 2wd, etc. assuming everything is in decent shape, that should give a small height boost and plenty more load power. yxmj
Adding on to that....when looking for packs you do not have to stay strictly Jeep. Any pack with the correct width can be a donor....S10 and Explorer springs are my favorite ....thay are both spring under and have a great curve.....and I just took the droop out of my daughters XJ with Chev 1500 springs
mikekaz1
if you feel like new, I absolutely love my hellcreek metric ton springs. they also carry standard weight lift springs also

Since the OP already has two sets of MJ springs, there's no reason to look elsewhere. Pete is also correct that re-arching leaf springs is a short-term fix, and that it can't add load-carrying capacity. Adding leaves does increase the capacity. If it were mine, I would start with just the second pair of main leaves with the eyes cut off. Since the overload leaf in an MJ doesn't carry any weight until the suspension is basically bottomed out, we're starting with a 3-leaf spring. Adding even one leaf will increase the capacity by approximately 33%. I haven't done the home-brew AAL in an MJ (yet), but I have done two XJs. Adding just a second, cut-off main leaf raised one XJ by an inch, and the other by 1-1/4-inch. Both were sagged badly, so that basically brought the vehicles back to stock height. I would expect about the same result with an MJ.
Billy
if you feel like new, I absolutely love my hellcreek metric ton springs. they also carry standard weight lift springs also Checked them out but they discontinued the MJ metric ton leafs. Know anywhere else to get them? I'm salvaging a bastard pack but if I can find a metric ton set I want to go with those.
Rockfrog
I'll second the bastard pack ... Mine is a combo of 4wd main, 4wd main no eyes, Dakota heavy load main, XJ second, 4wd 3rd, and 2wd overload spring ... So a 5/1 pack. I also still have the Monroe Load Assist shock on the rear which add some capacity as well. Might swap them to standard shocks and something like a Timbren later on to smooth the ride more unloaded. Holds the weight of my trailer without issue, and I'm pretty much at max pull (with equalizer hitch and trailer brakes). My old set (stock 2wd with overload - 3/1) used to sag 2" with just my own weight. I originally ran the 4wd "non overlaod" short bottom leaf but it made it buckboard stiff so swapped it for the 2wd overload. Smoothed the ride some (now it's kinda YJ-ish which I can live with) barely moves with just me, and hardly drops with the quad. 88whitemanche
Ok rearching is completely out the picture... I'll most likely combine both leaf springs and see where I can get some lift out of it.... I checked hellcreek and they seemed to completely discontinue/stop production on the Comanche leaf springs in all models.... Thank fellas for the advice and knowledge

masimmons25
i got on a mailing list and recieved an email a day or two ago, they are available again (at least the 4.5 lift springs) for $720 with a one week lead time. Still says TBD on the site though. Too much for me, so I'm looking into '97-'03 F150 or '94-'01 Ram 1500 springs and running them whole (F150) or building a bastard pack (Ram). gogmorgo
Is that for just the springs, or a whole kit?
HOrnbrod
Why don't you people pick up a phone, use it in voice mode if you know how, and call the shop and ask? Call Joe at General Spring or Tom at Hell Creek and ask your questions directly instead of asking anonymous forum members? Both of these guys are really good to talk to.
