I had JUST got the system installed in my Jeep yesterday and this morning when I left for work at 3 this happened. Going about 50 down the road, bumpin Drake with a massive smile on my face I see a deer hop out of the corner of my eye... and bam. Nailed the SOB. Slammed on my brakes with the sound of my tire scraping the front drivers fender and screaming words I shouldn't say as loud as I could. Deer hopped on its merry way. Mechanically I think I'm good, thankfully. But cosmetically is going to take some work. I do have coverage though with a 250$ deductible. I'm honestly happy this happened the way it did. If I had been in my Ford or going any faster then the deer would have rolled/landed on the hood and went through the windshield. But still I'm upset due to not being able to drive it for a little bit and I, you know, haven't even owned it for a month. Hoping that the body shop does a good job of matching the color and can have her looking better than ever.

The crazy thing is that I have never seen a deer in this spot before. Especially not in the middle of summer haha. But things happen, eh? Just happy this time I have insurance because last time one of my family members hit one it cost 1000$ without paint! If I didn't have insurance then I would be doing the work myself and getting it painted later on. Engine bay looks straight and at most the AC condenser is bent, I don't believe the radiator is.

over the years my MJ has taken out 2 deer... the first one my grandfather hit in Camden AL while driving back to the cabin. the second, years later in about the same area, he saw a couple cross the road so he slowed town to about 10 MPH as to avoid hitting one, well one charged the passenger door and killed itself..

my mother had one charge and hit her Jeep one time. What's the deal with deer and Jeeps!

It's not just Jeeps. Had one run into the side of my '05 Silverado. Bent both passenger side doors and the bed side. Never found the deer. It probably bounced off and kept running, like yours did.

Get a flowmaster... I live in a national park and almost never see any wildlife from my MJ. At least it was only a small deer and didn't cone through the windshield. And your insurance covers you. If it was me they'd write the truck off, cut me a check for $100, and tell me where to shove it. Insurance from the Crown is a mixed blessing.

That can't be real. How can anyone be so stupid?

don't you ever leave your house?
sentence of the day lol :D and I do plan to get a Super 44 eventually actually. The subwoofer made it loud inside so now to make it loud outside! Having to pay the deductible is going to set me back a little. I won't know anything until Tuesday or Wednesday because Geico adjusters don't work weekends.

I don't think I'd use insurance for that. Looks like just light damage. I'm sure you can get everything for ~$200 if that. Unless the fender or hood is bent. The fender looks a bit bent, but even if it is, those are cheap too.

If your paint is in good shape, and you want the parts to match, then maybe.

When you use your insurance, it causes your rates to go up(even if they say no). If you can fix it for around the cost of deductible, I would. Don't get me wrong, having insurance and using insurance is great.

^^  I'd agree with this statement if the damage was caused by an accident in which you were charged with a violation and proven at fault. In this case the damage was from a no-fault cause and unpreventable. Any decent insurance company would not increase premium rates for that, especially one like GEICO.

Genius has it's limits but stupidity knows no bounds.

Platitude of the day..........

Noun: platitude; Plural Noun: platitudes
A remark or statement, especially one with a moral content, that has been used too often to be interesting or thoughtful.

If this was my other Jeep I would fix it and all by myself but since this is the super clean one I just bought (with a new paintjob) I want it all straight and color matched haha. I was scared my premium would go up. Which it still might. But I'm hoping it will stay where it is.

5wm38WL.jpg you can see the fender a little better here. It's flared out real bad and the plastic flare is shoved against the tire so bad that I couldn't turn the steering wheel without power steering. Theres a chunk taken out of the tread of the tire as well from a stud. On the bright side I already had slight damage to that fender and the bumper which will probably be fixed now since the damage is 10x thanks to the deer.

For what it's worth, when I hit a coyote in one of my other cars, my insurance guy said that my insurance wouldn't go up since they considered this "an act of God", meaning it was not my fault, I suppose.  He did say that if I hit an animal in the road that is already dead, that is a different story.  I had State Farm ins. at the time

I've hit several critters over time I've had to claim, including a flying buzzard that took out my windshield at 60 MPH and a crazed water buffalo in the Philippines that took out my front end. In all cases everything was repaired w/o a rate increase.

Well guys they totaled it out. They said it would cost about 1900$ to fix and that it wasn't worth that to them (no way it would need THAT much work). I cranked it up today and it had no issues with the engine. So it's cosmetics. The plus side is I kept the Jeep and got paid 1800$! So I will be doing the work myself and having it painted and probably coming out at least a grand richer :D actually happy they totaled it out. Still a clean title as well. Wrote me a check and said the wreck never happened.
