My wife is doing very well in her career path as am I..... mid-life is hitting me hard...... some little demon keeps whispering "Yolo" in my ear.......

 

I felt it was time I recognized...... I deserve it.

 

2016 Hellcat.

 

 

 

 

With this being said...... yeah, I've made the difficult decision that I need to part with some Comanche projects.  If anyone is interested in adopting one of my MJ's hit me up via PM and we'll chat.

 

Not sure I wanna part with my '91 Eliminator, but the '88 raceTruck and Metric Stroker Dually will need to be re-homed.

:bowdown:  :bowdown: Very nice. Did you go with the 6 speed or the automatic?

 

 

I did quite a bit of research into all 3 of the SRT options offered for the Challenger - Scat Pack, SRT8 and Hellcat.  

 

I initially intended on getting a much more budget friendly Scat Pack car and I drove both - I preferred the 6 speed.  However the track only suspension assigned to the Scat Pack quite simply.......rode like @$$.  

 

My wife told me to step up to the SRT8 package with the selectable suspension.  Street mode rode great and again, the 6 speed was a fun transmission.  

 

The 6 speed in the Hellcat on the other hand is a whole different animal.  It's a Viper trans with external oil cooling and the dual clutch pack.   Forum threads had indicated that this clutch isn't good for daily driving unless you modify your normal clutch operation.  Feathering these clutch set ups causes friction blue-ing and warping of the friction plates and within 1000 miles, you end up with nasty clutch chatter and heat polishing of the surfaces.  The clutch in the Hellcat is meant to be engaged or disengaged, nothing in between.  Plus.... a skipped shift in a 700 hp drive train can be damaging.  

 

So I opted for 8 speed auto.  It's an amazing trans setup and super fast shifting.  Paddle shifters and the auto-stick feature give you some cool alternative driving experiences too.

Used to be a hard-core GM guy, but since '99 I've not found any of the other truck brands to be worth a damn in comparison.  Then Jeep really began to step up.  

 

When it came time to trade in our '07 Trailblazer SS in 2012 we couldn't find anything remotely close and were about to just keep it when we got talked into the WK2 SRT8.  That was one helluva SUV but the Trailblazer SS with a set of Blizzaks was the best winter vehicle we've ever owned.  The WK2 SRT8 could have been, but they don't make Blizzaks for it..... and the felt lined fender wells trap snow and ice so bad that you lose up-travel in your suspension and the ability to turn the front wheels after a long highway drive.  Pretty dangerous really.  

 

The 3 MOPAR vehicles we have now....... I think will be the perfect trio for us.  :thumbsup:

Back from a Nebraska road trip to see family.  Yes, I drove the Hellcat........across Nebraska....... in June........

 

1. Arrival.  Murdered bugs.  2. Top speed..... met a Nebr State Trooper that showed me a freshly paved 1/2 mile stretch between corn fields 2 miles out of town - as fast as I could get before running out of road (he even rode shotgun). 3. Average MPG on the trip home....not bad! 4. Home.  More murdered bugs and one dead bird (lower left intake opening....gross.  I've spared you the gooey shot...lol)

How did it feel at 141mph?

 

Like a rocket.  Still pulling hard.  Wasn't the smoothest stretch to haul @$$ on as far as being nice and level (after 120, the little rises and falls begin to feel like serious whoop-de-doos!), but the newer asphalt was a helluva lot better than the cracked, crappy cement surfaces and dirt roads everywhere else around there.

 

Other HC's have run 150-155 mph on 1-mile airport runways out here for super-car events.

 

I'm gonna invest in a pair of hood pins.......... :D

Making room in the garage....... by using a portable garage. $1500 for an 18' dry van box on a heavy camper frame.

 

 

Added screened vents, a winch, platforms over the wheel wells, wheel chocks screwed to the platforms, $100 craigslist ramps, roof support for snow load, and roof seams sprayed with Flex Seal.

 

 

Probably been 10 years since Old Mary has been out of the garage.

 

 

All clean......tires aired up, gas tank & battery removed.

 

 

 

Off to the storage lot......

I was driving my CJ7 through Nebraska after attending the Jeep Jamboree in Sturgis.  Trooper pulled me over for speeding, was very cool about it.  No ticket, and gave me a notecard that showed how to calculate your speed using a stopwatch and mile markers (60 mph=60 seconds between mile markers, etc).

 

Random note, this was in 1997.  There were only two TJs at the event, one with dealer plates.  All CJs and YJs.

Nope. Engine broke a valve spring retainer in one of the cylinders so it sounds like an angry midget with a hammer under the hood. The radiator seeps from several spots, and I screwed up by putting DOT 3 brake fluid in the system when it should have been silicone based so all the cylinder seals dissolved.

 

At this point it makes no sense to throw money at it for stock parts when the plan is to do a V8 with modern suspension and such.

Makes sense, and it would be an excellent resto-mod project. The body looks fantastic in the pics.

The body on this car is simply unreal with how rust free it is. It came from southern nebraska and has 83K miles. The only rust is a small area on the pinch seam lower area of the rear window where the rubber seal sits. No body rot anywhere else. All the areas where the outer skins fold over the inner structures of the doors, trunk, hood....all are pristine. Same with all body mounts - usually the worst for holding road dirt and salt/de-icer....all pristine. Floor boards are amazing. Been garaged all its life.

Have to think with a body that clean and solid it might make more financial sense to keep the entire car stock.

 

How much would it take to redo the brakes back to fresh stock condition?  Then just freshen up the head(s).  Stock radiator repair should be a bit less expensive than a new radiator, no??
