Interior help

Recommended Posts

When I got my 1987 sportruck the interior was in pretty rough shape So I ripped out the plastic for the pillars carpet and the headliner any idea on what I can use for noise insulation for the floor and where can I get a new headliner

One more issue I keep trying to set up my radio to an aftermarket one but can find any wiring diagrams to work with any help there?

I'm trying to put a radio in my 88, i have the 88 electrical manual i got off of here somewhere but even that seams to be wrong when it comes to the wire colors, best bet is to try to feed power through the speaker wires to get them to make noise to figure out what speaker is what wires, i remeber haveing to do that on my 89 xj

I picked up EZ Cool heat/sound insulation from http://www.lobucrod.com/, and it was easy to install with 3M headliner aerosol adhesive. I put it on the roof behind the headliner, along the back wall, and on the B pillars from floor to roof, all behind the paneling. This could be put down under carpet if you dare; the website shows application to floors and firewalls in their images section.

Zeta bird I might be too late in replying to this but when ever I am trying to trace speaker wire I use a AA battery and just connect it in. You'll heat a slight crackling on the speaker to tell which it is. And it shouldn't harm the rest of the car.

Nothing will deaden noise like carpet, pad and a headliner. Luckily, you can buy those items new still.

Most folks use truck bedliner as an alternative to carpet. I did this in my 86 and hated the noise so I installed carpet. Carpet cut the noise significantly.

There are a few members who have apparently successfully installed a section of XJ headliner in an MJ. I can't vouch for the results though. I finally got fed up and tore the saggy headliner out of my MJ. Next payday (wait... Tomorrow :D) I'm going to order an SMS headliner. I've seen nothing but good reviews so far.

Well, I changed my mind about ordering the SMS headliner. a1500ram hasn't been active on here for a couple months, but mostly I decided my separated ball joints need addressed first. So that's where this month's parts budget will be going. This gives me a bit extra time to look into recovering again. My issue is I don't really have a decent place to do it, and am not a particularly crafty person. Also there are some holes from the PO's attempts to hang it back up (I just put on a hat and let it sag) that I'm not sure are salvageable. But mostly I just like the idea of it being brand spanking new.

Don't know about everyone else, but my headliner board was damaged. My SMS headliner fits well, only problem is you have to be REALLY careful about the holes for the sunvisor clip (they aren't pre-cut). His headliners are a flexible cardboard-ish material.
