jimoshel
Not even winter yet and already I',m tired of the cold. Was out feeding the animals and the horses gathered around me for warmth. Wonder if I showed up on Don's doorstep if he would have a bunk for me for the winter. Or some body in Fla.

yellaheep
Indeed Jim........ My Sister and my 2 nephews live in Fla. She and her hubby moved there from Silverthorne, CO (8700 ft elevation) after the birth of the first kid - it's where her hubby has family and the first kid was a premie so high altitude wasn't helping him. They thought they'd move back after about 5-6 years when the kiddo's health and growth got better. Nope. They love it there. My parents love Colorado, lived in So. Jefferson County for 32 years. Decided to downsize and lived in a cabin in Estes Park for a few years, but bought a small place in Fla. 2 years ago so they could spend longer "visits" with their daughter and grand kids...... They just sold everything off and live in Fla. permanently now. I've only been there once - Naples Fla.- in November. It was AMAZING. Just dunno that I can give up Colorado and the mountains............ but the older I get, the less enthused I am with snow and cold.

jimoshel
Tnx Don. Keep yer offer in mind. Fact of the matter is I don't care to live anyplace else except Colorado. It's the mountains. Pretty much been around the world several times and I keep coming back here. Again, it's the mountains. Ive seen -62 in Thule Greenland. I've seen 127 above in Algeria. So no matter how hot or cold it gets here, I can say Ive seen worse. Not saying I like it. Just saying Ive seen it.

HOrnbrod
You been sniffing too much benzine mate. It never made 55* here. Also you're still a young whippersnapper. Your day will come..................
Incommando
I wore a long-sleeved T-shirt and shorts today, too. The high was 40.
Strokermjcomanche
I work in -10* to -30* F everyday in the freezer . Anything above 35 * feels like summer . And the bonus in the summer is going there to get cooled off on the hot days .
gogmorgo
It's 20°F here and I just spent a good 20 minutes outside in a tshirt fixing my roommate's christmas lights. It hit a ridiculous 40°F for a couple days last week and I was out enjoying the warm weather in shorts and a tshirt as well.I can't wait for it to get properly cold. Enough of this stupid freeze-thaw make everything wet and mushy stuff.

HOrnbrod
These cold weather "top this" threads are always entertaining. What's next? Naked hockey games at 40 below?  Love it, and looking forward to the absurdity when it really gets cold.
gogmorgo
When I was 15 or so, school was cancelled one day because it was -45°C / -50°F. (Not safe for people walking to school or if something happens to a school bus) It also happened to be garbage day. Pickup was around 10am, but our small town at the time had an issue with feral cats, so we couldn't leave the garbage outside, and it usually fell to my mother to take it out. Except I was home that day. I looked outside, and it was nice and sunny and beautiful outside. Perfect, I didn't need a jacket. It's always the coldest on the clearest, stillest nights, which are aways followed by bright, clear, sunny, and frigid days. I looked down at my boots, but they were a little small and an ordeal to put on, so since I was only going to be outside for a few seconds, I just pulled off my socks. We'd got a couple inches a few days earlier, so our path and sidewalk were covered in packed snow that hadn't yet turned to ice. When I got back in, I looked back out, and there were a dozen or so footprints before they faded out... my feet had gotten so cold they stopped melting the snow and leaving prints. It was about ten minutes before I could feel them again, which was when they started burning. The angry pins-and-needles feeling lasted for what felt like a couple hours. Since then, I've never gone outside barefoot below +10°C / +50°F. I've been outside in my gotch at -40 since then, (because whiskey) but I was very definitely wearing some warm boots. jimoshel
OhKay. Let's play Top This. First liar doesn't have a chance but somebody has to start. When I was in Korea my .50 machine gun quit working because the bullet froze in the barrel. Next...
jbain
Exercise "Teamwork 93"... this exercise was held in the North Atlantic in February. They had us out shoveling snow off the flight deck of the USS Guadalcanal.... My shovel handle froze to my glove. :)

xjrev10
I love the cold and snow. It's why I live where I live! I've had a few different chances to leave but nothing else feels right. I'm not a fan of Florida. Too many people. My folks winter there.
