I know there are a lot of threads on here about swapping the brake booster out of a 95, or 96 XJ, but I have easy access to a 94 XJ. Will it work, and is there a lot of other mods that would have to be done, or is it even worth doing?

Ok, thanks for letting me know. Just had seen someone on here swap a '92 booster in, so I assumed they must be a dual diaphragm. I'll just have to go get the right one.

'95/96 XJ boosters are dual diaphragm and are your best bet as far as upgrading the booster.  '97+ XJ have a longer rod.  WJ boosters are also a good option.

Or you can just MAKE $#!& work.

Yea, you could... but I don't trust welding something like that.  It would be my luck the weld breaks and then I have no brakes.

There is no lateral pressure on that weld.

That weld may not be beautiful but I guarantee you it's the strongest part of that assembly/rod.

VERY WORTH DOING!!! I got the master cylinder and booster from Rockauto for about 100.00, it took me a few hours to install everything I was able to do it one Friday night after work and have never looked back this along with a set of steel braided brake lines will have you stopping on a dime, you can find tons of info on this on the internet. Don't second guess it you're upgrading the most important system of your truck.

94 worth doing? You sure. I've done the 95 to 96, and the 99 to 04 wJ with excellent results.

Yeah, 94 would essentially be the same as what he has now. I think big66440 was referring to the 95/96 swap.

I'm assuming that also. Just wanted to point it out.

What is required to make a WJ one work? Just thinking newer is probably better.

WJ versus 95 to 96 XJ booster

Actually, the WJ booster is in some ways easier than the 95 to 96 XJ.

I've done both.

XJ, you don't have to mess with the firewall. No big deal anyway.
But, you have to move the washer reservoir. And, once the original booster comes out, the bracket inside the cab moves and makes it a bear to install the new booster.

WJ you have to bend the firewall lip, but don't move the washer bottle.
As an added bonus, the mounting studs of the WJ booster are a bit smaller and it's easier to get in.
Another bonus with the WJ is that it has FLEXIBLE lines from the master cylindere that make putting things together MUCH easier.

No, just picked it up from the wreakers. I have to pick up A brake light switch yet for it. I'm thinking to go with the Ford style switch, where it's just a button that the arm on the pedal rests against.
