A-man930 Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 Not sure if this was really necessary; but hey its easy to get at right?!
A-man930 Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Made some caster shims with the plasma cutter. Anyone know why RE says "the use of shims is not recommended"??
A-man930 Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 Pressed in all new OE-style rubber bushings. She's all bolted up, aligned, and ready to roll!

91Pioneer Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 <pic> All new OE-style rubber bushings. Did you use a press to change out the bushings?
benjy_26 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I don't know what A-Man used, but I use a ball joint press to install the axle side UCA bushings.
91Pioneer Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 OK, thanks I have one of those that I bought on sale but haven't used yet. I changed out the sway bar & end link bushings because they were rotten and I have a feeling my control arm bushings are probably pretty worn out too, so i think I'll have a job to do soon LOL.
A-man930 Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Yes I used a press. Had to get creative trying to keep the arms from collapsing; I used sockets and pieces of scrap sandwiched in the open part of the arms. I also tack welded the bushings in place once I was done. For the axle side I used a sledge. Of course that's with the axle out from under the truck...

benjy_26 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're safe. I just meant that I was afraid to fubar them, so I just bought a new pair.
A-man930 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 Ah, well I figured it wasn't the end of the world if I messed them up so I gave it a shot

A-man930 Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 You bet it is! If anyone else is wanting to look at a parts donor I can PM you this guy's info. About an hour west of St. Louis.
A-man930 Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 Got an in-depth thread on the spring overhaul going: http://comancheclub.com/topic/47414-leaf-spring-overhaul-bushings-bolts-pads-coating-shackles/
A-man930 Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 The partially melted horn button has always bothered me. Fixed!
A-man930 Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Been making progress on the spring refurb and am midway through fixing my parking brake pedal. Check it out! http://comancheclub.com/topic/48483-parking-brake-pedal-fix-unverified/
A-man930 Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Projects always seem to snowball around here. I took advantage of the park brake pedal being out to clean up the firewall a bit.
A-man930 Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 If you've experienced the ridiculous roofing tar dielectric grease mess on this connector you'll appreciate how clean this guy is now This one is a little harder to clean out This combo worked really well I sealed the bulkhead connector and the clutch master cylinder against the firewall with some black RTV to keep the leaks out of the cabin. I really need to replace the weatherstrip across the cowling to keep the water from getting there in the first place.
