Guess Who's Getting His Gall Bladder Yanked Out?

In hindsight I've had previous incidents but nothing that couldn't be dismissed as some sort of weird heartburn.  last night I was on the floor in pain.  it sucked.  a lot.  but after a trip to the hospital I now know for sure what's going on.  sometime likely this week I'll be getting the dang thing pulled.  don't really need it anyway.

now I'm going back to bed.  been over 24 hours since I last slept and I think I've got enough pain meds in me to pass out.  g'night!

Bummer! But, if they're able to "scope" it, the recovery isn't too bad. Easy for me to say as it isn't my gall bladder. My mom(in her mid-seventies), my niece (mid-forties), and my boss (early fifties) had the surgery with short recoveries. My niece went on a cruise (pre-booked) a week after she had hers out.

As Geonovast indicated, their can be some dietary restrictions, hopefully not as severe as having to give up bacon. It is of the major food groups.

I doubt I'll be able to eat a giant triple bacon cheeseburger, but I will still be able to eat bacon. :D  just have to be more conservative with the portions.  i've been reading up on post-operation foods and it looks like my first week will not be a lot of fun. :(

Nowadays they use a laparoscope for gallbladder removal; much less intrusive than the old slash and dig surgery. It used to be one of the longest surgeries to recover from, like months. Using laparoscopic surgery recovery time is reduced to a few days. My wife had it done last year. She was up and about the next day. Progress is good.....................

in some cases.

Hey Pete. Whatever they quoted you on the price I'll do for half that. And give you a choice of Anesthetic, pain killer. Jack Daniels or Johnny walker. :brows:

Sorry to hear that, Pete. Any kind of strict diet is no fun at all.  :( Good luck with everything.

I do believe the Chinese will pay good money for your gall bladder. It's used as an aphrodisiac and is coveted by vasectomy survivors.

we that sucked.  since previous attacks were weeks apart, I kinda figured it was clear sailing til the surgery.  Woke up to a familiar gut-busting feeling last night. :(

at least this time I have pain meds.

Seems like it hits everyone differently.  My ex can't eat anything from a pig without getting sick, but no problem with anything else.  A guy I used to work with couldn't eat lettuce because of it, and that was it.

lettuce?  interesting. :(

got a doc appt on weds and looks like the surgery will be on monday.  but that might change depending on what the doc says.  all I know is that my guts always ache.  just not anything like what sent me to the hospital.

this has got to be the most physically painful week of my life...   I see the doc in 15 hours, but just for the per-surgery visit, not the surgery itself, which can't come soon enough.

at least this all happened down in georgia where I have family members around me 24/7.  this would be a lot rougher up in michigan where the only other person in my house is gone most of the day.  let's here it for silver linings :D

Always good to be south of the Mason-Dixon line! Good luck on the surgery. Hope it goes well and recovery is short.

doc visit is over.  nothing much to share.  tomorrow I meet with the anesthesiologist and then friday I get this dang thing out of my body.
