Hi guys....been a long time.  I sold my 88 olympic bondo buggy  back in 08 and moved on to GM B Bodies.  well, I always missed my comanche and i swore that next time i would get a clean one...one that i want (long bed, 5 speed, 4.0) well, i just sold the 1965 cj5 i was working on... and my buddy called me to tell me that there is a clean comanche on his way to work...he stopped to check it out. Its an 86 long bed 5speed...yay!.... its a 4 cyl....boo!  but he said it is showroom clean top and bottom. the owner is asking $2500.  I'm gonna try to go look sunday.

Being an '86 the 4cyl is a huge plus. The 6cyl for that year is awful, ask me how I know. Overall though my experience with '86 rigs have been positive, they have been the least rusty of all the ones I've owned or looked at. $2500 seems very steep, but that could be the difference in market area.

If it's an xls the interior is awesome!

Mind clarifying?

Other than a bench seat and no leather wrapped steering wheel, my current rigs interior is the same as my Eliminators had. Supposedly what I have now is an X, but I can't get a clear answer to that and the badges are long gone on the side as you can see in my avatar. It does have all the chrome/silver trim though, but back then everything could be option box ticked to the buyers liking if you ordered your vehicles rather than picked one on the lot.

Eh? They didnt even have the 4.0 as an option until the following year.    :hmm:   You musta found one with a 4.0 swapped in.  Either way its the best of three engines available at the time.

Mine has the dreaded 2.8...

but aside from that, I've noticed the same thing about 86's around here, they all seem to be fairly rust free (floorboards aside)

I wonder why that is?

That is correct, but the majority of Comanche buyers were looking for a cheap, compact pickup truck.  The thing was advertised as a sub-10K truck, but that was pretty bare bones - 2.5L, 4-speed, vinyl flooring, no A/C, 2WD.  I'm sure someone on here can cite some of the option pricing, but most of the available add-ons were pretty pricey - especially for the budget-minded Comanche buyer.  As such, many Comanches did not get "optioned out" much past their standard trim packages.

The '86 Comanche's generally have more options than any other year.  Many of the '86 XLS (which was only available in '86) that I have seen came with factory buckets, chrome trim, sliding rear window, fog lights, rear cargo light, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.  The '86 X package was basically their base model - maybe a small step above it.  If your '86 has factory buckets and chrome trim I'd venture a guess that it may be an XLS.

Ok I went and saw the mj today. Its brown with the urine yellow interior.

Its actually an 87 not an 86 and its a pioneer long bed 4cyl 5spd. With 111k miles

It runs really well(slower than christmas) and has been maintained well.

Non a/c the only rust...and I mean ONLY. ...is a couple small surface spots on the door. The underside is so clean its unreal. And the interior is carpet/cloth and filthy. He wants 2500 maybe ill offer 2000 what do you think?
