huck731
public opinion here. while working today I made a smart @$$ joke to a customer who need a new fuel filler hose for his jeep wrangler. "heck, I've go ta whoel jeep you can buy" he comes back and says he has a 2000 ford escort zx2 5spd for sale, $1800 but he'll trade me straight up for the truck because his son wants a small truck. should I go for it or not. it's the 2.0l dohc zetec motor, rated at 38 mpg. http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/3767113933.html
87Warrior
No. It's a Ford Escort.
rocketwheels
I wouldn't , you can fix the jeep relatively cheap and easy, not the Ford/Mazda
TheDirtyJeep401
i say if it has the four letter word FORD, then its a no go. Plus alot of escorts breakdown, don't do it, its a college girls car.

mpace6a
Dad got a ford escort,'95 i believe. Was a damn good car, and I'm a die hard mopar guy. I wouldnt buy one, but ours ran good, averaged 28mpgs city, low-mid 30s highway. Never had a problem in the 5 years we owned it. Dad drove it daily, roughly 20 miles one way to work. That being said, keep the jeep.

TheDirtyJeep401
Mopar man! Love Mopars, but AMC's are a little more on my favorite side (since almost all of my vehicles are AMC's)
Pete M
I've have a couple friends who once owned Zx2s. I hate zx2s. I hate fixing them. hate everything about them. They rust in such horrible ways.

mnkyboy
I've had lots of escorts over the years, still own 3 EXPs. They are decent cars, I had a 99 that I beat the crap out of for several years, I only had to replace a wheel bearing, alternator, and a battery. I would have no problem buying one for a work car. Geonovast
Regardless of what it was being traded for, I wouldn't let an MJ go to someone who's "just looking for a small truck".
H3RESQ
agreed. That said, I think they are good little back and fourth cars. You are not gonna get a Honda/Toyota in equal condition for that amount of investment. So, you could make much worse choices than a escort. Now, with that said....DO NOT TRADE. The MJ will stay same or go up in value and is way cooler. Also easier, cheaper to repair and keep running as the milage climbs. Regardless of what it was being traded for, I wouldn't let an MJ go to someone who's "just looking for a small truck".
mnkyboy
He said the guy had a wrangler, it wouldn't be so bad if it went to a Jeep family.
rmoore1031
Not a fair trade. Comanches are way harder to find, around me at least. I know nothing about that car but I doubt its equally cool or awesome.
huck731
you should actually check my project thread, my truck has alot of rust (i.e NO rocker panels)
88whitemanche
Are you losing motivation on working the truck itself? I've had moments that I've invested so much money in the truck that I lose motivation everyday! But what motivates me up is the people who turn their heads wondering about my cherokee truck or the custom jeep I created! Lol The deal isn't bad regarding a gas saving car but you'll miss the comanche even more because of the antique patina it brings to a lot of these guys on this site that can't let go or buy more than one truck. huck731
I never heard back from the guy so whatever, doesnt break my heart. I'm going to keep modifying my jeep untill I actually sell it or it finally dies ( I was offered $1200 cash today). I still have hopes of getting a set of zj stock rear coils by next weekend so I can do my drop before a show on saturday.
