I have seen oem rattle can paint in the auto parts store and I would like to find some

For my truck for touch ups. First off how do I find the

Color? And then who would carry it?

My mj is a 1988 pioneer. It's more of a navy blue with the silver and gray pioneer decal.

The stamped plaque on the radiator support will give a code on one of the top lines. Take the code to a body shop or automotive paint supplier and have them whip up a few cans for your use. You'll probably want to clearcoat the panel you're shooting.

For example, my 1987 paint code listed on the stamped plaque of my rig is AB, which is beige.

Paint codes and color samples for 1988 Jeeps can be found at http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?model=Jeep&year=1988&rows=50

I hope this helps.

The plaque may be on the firewall near the hood hinge on the driver's side. It's been a few years since I've searched one out... my memory may be fading on it.

Regardless, the paint code is on the plaque once it is located.

I ordered some paint from AutomotiveTouchup for my Silver Star Metallic MJ, and while the spray paint is fine, the 2oz bottle is about two-three shades too dark. I eventually decided to mix it with Duplicolor's Bright Silver Metallic. The clearcoat is pretty good though.

MY local larger NAPA will mix a spray can the normal size like you see at the hardware stores carry for around $30.00 thats a price from a few years ago. Also a guy on ebay will do the same 25.00 and shipping. You should just need your vin for them to look it up.

There should also be a plaque pop riveted to the driver's door (the door, not the door post) that has the color codes.

My original XJ is an '88 with the dark blue paint. I don't think it was called Baltic Blue, I actually think it was called Teal, and it isn't like a Navy Blue at all. I'll try to remember to check the paint codes when I'm out by the Jeeps this afternoon.

Not sure how helpful this is, considering it's from the 87' lineup. Might be able to derive a general idea and or name of your color scheme though. :dunno:

My 89 Comanche Pioneer is a Platinum Blue Metallic, and have had a difficult time finding anywhere, besides an "Old School" Body Supply that gets the Color right. I did find these websites that have the real color at a Somewhat Reasonable price.

http://www.automotivetouchup.com and http://www.tcpglobal.com

Automotive Touch-up is the only place that I found that will do the color in a Rattle Can.

Good luck finding this year paint anywhere, not to mention that paint ages away from stock color.  I got an excellent match of 88 Colorado Red with Rustoleum Regal Red for instance.  I ended up doing a cap color match with several different reds, then a spot body match.  Don't judge until the paint dries.

We'll the paint on the truck already looks like $#!& Anyway. I'm just looking for something that looks remotely the same to cover up the paint that is chipping away and exposing the bondo...

I have used "automotivetouchup" for my Olympic White 87, and it matches quite well. Gotta remember the years of exposure of the paint on the car has changed it while probably what we buy would be like the color when new, so will not be a perfect match.
