jeepsouth Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Remove ,and thoroughly clean/degrease tail lights. Use brown scotchbrite pad ,and water to remove oxidisation from lenses use only enough muscle to do the job. Dry ,and check your work, go at it again if need be.Wipe down completely dry lenses with alcohol ,and a clean cloth.Apply three wet even coats of clear with at least a 10 min. wait between coats (check weather condition reccomendations on can) Let dry ,and reinstall. This is what i used-this is the result--
jeepsouth Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 Thanks, got the ideas from others on here. Looks great!
jeepsouth Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 Thanks, only took about 3-4 hrs. all together. Well done
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Amazing Job dude, I tried it to mine today, and they turned out great.(Couldnt do a lot to the truck due to rain) They were pretty bad, but look new now. Ill try to put pics up later if you want to see my results. Thanks for sharing man!!!!
NHMJXJ Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Wow, they look new! Curious about the DupliColor clear though ... does it indicate it can be used on plastic? I'm just wondering how long it will hold up. I suppose time will tell. I recently saw an ad for a Mothers Headlight Restoring Kit. Blue foam on a post that you put in a drill. Anyone try it on taillights yet?

jeepsouth Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 No indication on can that says ok for plastic ,but no indication against using it either. Can says high gloss acrylic laquer that goes on easy ,and provides uv protection. That was all i needed to read right there. Wow, they look new! TheDirtyJeep401 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 These are it (They look better in person) but when they werent restored, they were pretty bad. I used a vehicle clear coat touch up psint.
armyofchuckness Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Neat! I'll have to give this a go. Thanks for the tip! I have two good tail lights, but they're a bit on the faded side.
92tanMJ Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I love the idea! and the black trim on the light! Looks great!
tgcj Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 With what color and type did you repaint the tail lights?
dankicksass Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 can you seperate the lense from the housing? You can. It's heat bonded together.
87mjdriver Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 can you seperate the lense from the housing? You can. It's heat bonded together. so how do you seperate them, just a heat gun? then how do you put them back together?
dankicksass Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 You would use a silicone adhesive to put them back together.
BryceOJ Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I can't seem to do it correctly. I just can't get them to look that good. Where do you find "brown scotch brite pad" I can't seem to find one anywhere. I maybe getting the wrong pad that may be too course. I seem to make no improvements or even make them foggier after they dry from water. How much pressure do you use on the oxidation spots?

Pad is more purple brown ,than brown i guess ,but a regular green one should work. The pad is to remove oxidisation ,and the clear will bring back the shine. The lenses will look dull until you clear them. Hope this helps.
sinkrun Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 WOW, I had my MJ painted last fall and my lights looked just like yours I really need to do something with them. I will have to give this a try.
