tell her the truck is a preoccupation, not an infatuation, and that if she feels threatened by the truck, to just tell herself... ITS JUST A TRUCK, not a threat to my relationship. The only thing threatening your relationship is her thinking she has to compete. Tell her its a hobby, its a way to "relax", and that there are many worse things you could be doing than working on your truck. Good Luck!

I bought my truck while dating. I also started my overhaul while dating. We are now engaged. Just last week she said, and I quote, "I can't wait for your to be done, its going to be so cool...and pretty." :ack:

She has always been supportive of my Jeeping passion and has become very addicted to trail riding through the Rockies, probably for the rare scenery and photography opportunities.

This is also the same girl who wants to trade her Camry in for a Cummins powered Ram, because it gets decent mileage and can pull the TJ.

X2. Note that at least she knows where you are... in the driveway under the truck!

You have a keeper there Brett.

Any woman who's so insecure as to be jealous of a truck I don't want around. Give in once and next it will be your dog, guns, motorcycle, or anything else you spend quality time with.

I very shallowly broke up with my girlfriend a few years ago because she had voiced concerns of me not spending enough time with her because I was always at my shop working on my cars/trucks/motorcycles. At first we just dealt with it, but it became glaringly obvious to me that it was a serious problem for her. I decided I wanted to make it work so I spent less time in the shop and more time sitting on the sofa watching TV and movies with her. This lasted maybe two weeks. I was constantly thinking about the laundry list of things I needed to do in my shop. She would sometimes talk to me after TV shows and ask me what I thought about this and that and I honestly couldn't answer because I dozed off thinking about how I was going to patch the rusty floors in my MJ and approx. how much sheet metal I would need. I started canceling our boring TV dates and making up some really lame excuses why she couldn't come to my place that night (I was working late, needed to help a friend out, etc). Truth is, I was down at my shop. Serious problems arose when she started to drive by my shop and saw all the lights on and knew I was down there. We decided to end it shortly after these stalker episodes of hers. She was a really great girl and an awesome companion, but she needed me to be around too much, which I attribute to her complete lack of female friends. I think I was her ONLY friend...

I've been dating a girl for the last 2.5 years and it's a long distance relationship. We're 150 miles apart and we see each other maybe 1-2 times/month. It works out well because I can spend as much time in my shop as I damn well please during the week and then can see my girl on weekends. It's not going to be this way, forever, though. As soon as she finishes up school (and if we're still together), we'll likely find jobs in the same location and move in together. She doesn't mind my little 'addiction' at all...or so she says. She also owns an '06 TJ so she scores some points in my book :D

I've been dating my GF for about 5 almost 6 years now, and she caught the tail end of my first MJ cycle... She loved driving the done-up '91 Eliminator I had on 31's, and then I sold everything off to play with a cummins Ram. Once I blew that up, I picked up an XJ, and got struck again. I told her that I was going to pick up MJ's again, and that she would have no idea how serious it was about to get. 2 years later, about 7 MJ's, 2 XJ's, a ZJ, numerous half-trucks/parts, and countless windshield time getting the stuff, and she see's how bad it really is. She gripes on me sometimes about not supporting her horse hobbies (I never really go to watch her practice) and gets on my case about spending all my time on CC. I understand, but there are a lot of worse things I could be doing, and if she don't like what I am doing, she knows where to find the door. My house, my rules, my Jeeps.

It's sad but I can honestly say I have had more life altering/touching moments with my truck then I have had with my wife...sure there was the whole marriage/having kids/spending a lifetime together, but she has yet to carry me down the road like the truck does, nor does she have a solid front axle..

My ex wife left me for a truck driver. Married him, separated, now lives 3 housed over so my 13 year old can walk back and forth. But I got my first Jeep (a Comanche) after she left me. My kids told me her and her new husband laughed at me for driving a rusty Jeep with holes in it.

Now it's lifted and locked, rides on 35s and my 13 year old loves wheeling it (I usually ride shotgun off road), and parked beside it in the driveway are two Cherokees. No more Ford F100, no more Geo Prizm and no more Chevy Suburban (although I still miss that one).

But between working on the house and maintaining 3 Jeeps, one of which is 23 years old and goes off road pretty much every month, I really have no time or money left for a girlfriend. Probably a good thing, as I'm never getting married again anyway.

The only advice I can give you is that if you are posting on a forum about this, you already know the answer and are just looking for us to verify it for you...so man up and move on.

I realize that I need to make time for my wife as well, but then again I married her, didn't I? If I didn't want to make time for her then obviously I would have made a wrong choice. Same goes on her side....if she doesn't want to make any time for you to do your thing, obviously you made a wrong choice too. You need to find someone who can run both ways down the street.

I would be honest with her and tell her that her back side looks much nicer than that old MJ's does. Of course, this assumes you have an after market bumper and not a factory one in pristine condition. If you have a pristine factory rear bumper, that changes everything.

Marriage involves give and take for both people. It is the two becoming one. The most important thing about marriage is to know living together before marriage never helps. What helps is even before becoming engaged, each person takes a look at themselves in relationship to a bunch of different things and how you view them and, if rightly necessary, change my attitude toward them: finances, family, sexuality, etc, etc, etc. If either person is unwilling to change their ways if that way is wrong and it is going to hurt the marriage, then it needs to be dealt with. This includes insisting that you watch movies with me instead of enjoying your hobby, or insisting that it is more important to be in my shop rather than wanting to do things the other person enjoys, including watching a movie. When you find out you are unwilling to make necessary changes, get help in dealing with why. It is possible to be having an "affair" with my stuff, or with my movies.

Marriage is really the hardest "job" anyone will ever have, but it is also the most wonderful, and requires a lot of constant work. Been at it for 40 years now, and there have been LOTS of bumps and roadblocks, but together we have faced them. BTW, IF necessary, my MJ will go. But because it is not consuming me, my wife understands my desire to keep it.
