The rear bumper on our "recovery" project is bent twisted and mangled up. I have read some posts saying rear bumpers for Comanches are next to impossible to come by. I ran into a company called FEY that sells a universal step bumper that they claim will work for our trucks. Were can we find Add a Leafs?

I am on the Hells Creek website right now and have found those leaf springs, it lists them as $160 I think that's each? that price is not totally out of the ball park, will the full leafs be better then the add a leafs? Dave. -
I am trying to find a Add a leaf lift kit for our project truck, I have searched on Google put could only find lift kits advertised for Jeep Cherokees. I found a link to "Rustys.com" they appear to sell add a leafs in pairs but they do not say what vehicle they fit on so I am skeptical about buying them. We are looking to get about 3"s of lift. I have also read about other companies like rubicon express, rough country, and iron rock but I can not find Jeep Comanche add a leafs on there websites. We are trying not to replace the whole pack it is not in the projects budget, and we are not capable of doing one of these "spring of conversions" like on my brothers 89 Comanche. Can anyone link me to a website that would sell add a leafs for a 1987 4wd SporTruck? Thanks Dave.

As some of you know my brother Matt has been in the hospital recovering from a car accident for the last few months. Some local Clubs all pitched and with my family to buy my brother a 1987 SporTruck in an effort of saying "Get well soon" I will be doing most of the work on this along with my father and a few close friends. When we are done we will be presenting this truck to Matt as a gift, we hope it will help him recover and get well soon. I am a complete stranger to Jeeps so please bare with me throughout this project. What we have to start with 1987 SporTruck with what I was told "2.5" motor, N231 and Ax15. She has 136,xxx on the ticker and looks like it has been in the ocean since 1995. It currently needs some rust repair on the rear wheel wells, and is in need of a floor and "slave cylinder". We plan on installing a complete new floor, new rocker panels, a new exhaust as the previous owner cut off the cat and muffler, a 3" lift kit with a set of 33x12.5R15 Mtz's we have in the barn. Let the fun begin! Dave.

I once test fitted 36x12.5's on my rig. with 5" of lift they would clear but the rear fenders would need to be widened. Minor trimming/folding will be needed for 35"s on a 4.5". I would try to find a D60 for the rear but the 9" is more realistic. I would start with the 4x4 conversion. I would go 4.0 ax15 Nv231 doubler unless a D300 is available for you, D44 rear d30 front 4.56 gearing, D30 super axle conversion, Aussie rear, Ox front, Soa rear with mid arm front. :drool: -
My 87's floor has seen better days. The previous owner just let them rot then covered them in Plywood :thwak: I ordered new floor pans from C2C but I have never tried to replace an entire pan before only patching holes. I cut out all the crappy rotted rusted floor from the cab but this left me with very little to weld to near the door. Anyway...to questions, will my 110flux welder suffice for an entire pan? It did great on patches but this is a bit more of a project and is it okay to pop rivet the floor pan in place then weld it? or should I avoid the mighty rivet all together? Here is my floor the day I got the truck for referencing (Before cutting the rust away)

So far I'm leaning towards the Nitro Cat 1200-k sure its a bit above my price range but you only live once. As far as the any other brands, Mac Tools I will never buy from again over the years I have spent hundreds and hundreds on them and have never been to impressed. I've had bolt extractors snap in the bolt, sockets shatter, ratchets let go. Just not worth it to me anymore. I'm not a huge fan of snap on due to there extreme cost but they make a great product. As far as Dewalt goes, when I want to screw some wood together I look no were else then a quality Dewalt drill there cordless impact guns on the other hand...Just not rated for what I need them for. I have a Ingersal Rand cordless and it goes like a "mother"

I have a Air cat impact gun that has just recently crapped the bed on me. I'm looking for a new Impact gun for under $150 that is at least 300-400 ft-lbs. Whats do you guys run and what do you suggest? I run on board air so I need something that can be abused and handle the elements without blowing up in my face.

On my 89 I went with the Soa and corresponding coils because I wanted to be as big as possible (Hey we're all young once right?) I'm trying to stay away from gigantic on my 87. I've been looking for a lift but not finding anything to impressive for our Mj's. So far I have found Rustys, Rough Country, and Rubicon Express make lifts for us but they all appear to be basic BB. Rustys does offer full packs but after my last set of Rustys packs I will be staying away from them. I want to build this truck more long the low center of gravity lines so I don't want to go about 3.5". What are some suggestions you guys have?

Also keep in mind that parts from the cab forward will work from any year Xj. Anything behind the cab won't work.

Pete speaks the truth. I've been in that situation with my 89 since the day I bought it. When you add up all the $$ you spent just repairing/replacing expensive "offroad/custom" parts you realize you could have built one of the nastiest rigs around.

Compiled my list of things to do before the snow comes. New rocks New floor pans New tail pipe Replace transmission Remove and test Transfer Case Remove all rust on unibody Undercoat the crap out of it Bed line new rockers/floors/wheel wells :grrrr:

So on my 87 I gave the rocker on the passengers side a swift kick and I went through it. Now I plan on cutting the rockers off to replace them. I remember a while ago somebody posted a website that sold rockers/floor panel for cheap money does anybody kno what that was? If not where I could get new rockers?

haha no way not yet. Those just happen to be shots from last winter the seller had. The truck has been sitting around all summer last road driven I think in Feb when we had some snow. Although it has been dipping far below 50 all week. I believe right now it is about 41 outside.

Hahaha a little longer then that I think! In the beginning of the summer I went and looked at it with a friend and said PASS due to the tranny. Shortly after it disappeared from craigslist. Then all of a sudden last night it re appeared so I jumped all over it as it doesn't need that much work. Worse comes to worse I toss in a JY Ax5 and attack the floors and I have a decent rig. From what the owner has told me it was driving fine up until last winter so I have my fingers crossed on this little girl.
