AMC-MJ
Lawn care, Land scape and Snow removal sounds simple right ? :rotfl2:  Now here is what i end up doing: Run a string trimmer 8-12hours a day if i'm lucky i mow 0-4 hours a day. Run a skid loader loading dump truck then driving said dump truck unloading it and doing all over again. Run a hand operated land scape rack, spreading Rock bark dirty . . . Run shovels spade flat scoop snow. Run snow blowers & loaders with blowers n plows. check all fluid levels and filters. change all fluids n filters. Fix or assist in fixing what ever is broken. Wash clean polish wax work truck's mowers trailers ect. But my reward for all of this work, well i get to barely survive, forced to sell my K2500 to cover winters bills tho i won't miss the truck any stupid 6.5 diesels . . . Oh and i get to drive a 22 year old Compact Jeep pickup truck with almost 200K miles on it complete with rust dents and holes . . . nothings flapping yet tho  Mike

AMC-MJ
Well good for you man you prolly own the company. I'm just part of a crew of 8 those above listed things are what I do myself there is 7 others doing about the same thing we got large volumes of work getting done . . . I thinks its funny that our crew of 8 get more done in a day then most with a crew of 15 or so do . . . anywho i like my cheap heap of a jeep nothing wrong with being poor  Mike

AMC-MJ
 Cool thing about our boss man is he gets down and dirty right with us all But we got some nice equipment so i'm sure that's costing a pretty penny . . . we get brand new trimmers every year new push mowers every other year and new lawn mowers every 3 year's . . . The pickup truck's get swapped out every 6 years and the Dump trucks every 8 years. Aint so bad considering the pickup trucks (F350/K3500's) cost about $50,000 the little tipper's (Sterling/Ram 5500 4x4's) are about $75,000 and the big tipper's (Frieghtliner FL70's) are about $100,000 . . . Not sure what the 5 mowers 3 pusher's a dozen trimmers cost but they don't seem cheap . . . he's got plenty of over head that for sure . . . The mow trailers are enclosed the land scape trailers are nice 2 tandem axle's 1 triaxle trailer and 3 skid loaders and 1 mini loader and a tool cat . . .tons of attachments . . . everything has 2way radio's . . . We the employees get: cell phone reimbursement's $50/mo toward your plan or free phone if its on his plan. health insurance of which he pays 75% we pay 25%. time and half for snow removal work. lunch time is paid, some time if he is around he'll even buy lunch as well as pay ya for it. But wages aren't as good as i would like to see $10-$12/hr for summer & $15-$18/hr for winter, Which i guess ain't the worst . . . . the other guys get there $300/wk unemployment which i do NOT receive cause I have an AMSOIL dealer tag so there for i "have the ability to make income" as they claim . . . AMC-MJ
Yep you got it I could sell amsoil products but I can't sell them. People these days aren't worried about oil changes as much as there next meal or that last tank of gas. Now that being said, I see plenty of high end jobs here making the big income so why the interest in these cheap little trucks ? A good portion of you could be collecting n restoring things in the 25,000 to 75,000 dollar value range. So why ya messing with 1500 dollar trucks ? I like Comanches - though I'd pick up an FSJ or two in a heartbeat if I could find em for decent prices in OK shape (rust wise) around here. Also, that kind of price tag would require loans and loans are something I refuse to deal with when I can avoid it. I've got 3 jeeps, I spent $4200 total buying them (should have been more like $3000, got ripped off on the first one, the 96) and maybe 10k building / restoring all 3 of them to this point. Not a cheap hobby by any means, but it sure does ensure that I will always have something to drive to work in the morning...

jpnjim
So why ya messing with 1500 dollar trucks ? Mike My lifestyle stays the same if I make $0 or 80K+. So what if my daily driver is older than what I had when I was 16. (21 year old Jeep now, vs a 12 year old Merc then :rotfl2: ). Meh, living cheap is it's own reward. ;)
AMC-MJ
:clapping: This is why i ended up owning an MJ running driving truck with a complete brake job for $300 :clapping: The person who put my truck up for sale almost a yea ago replaced the whole braking system, Master cylinder drum's Rotor's caliper's Wheel cylinder's shoes pad's and all new lines then he replaced all of the external light bulbs he put 50-75 miles on the truck made sure it was and safe then sold the truck to me I been driving it continuously for 9months now . . . 86FUBAR
I'm a mechanic for a school district , me and 2 other guys maintain 21 school buses , a dozen or so maintnence trucks , a dozen or so vans , 4 riding mowers , 2 large tractors and countless string trimers , blowers , push mowers and probably 40+generators . we take care of just about everything you could think of and them some on top of having to drive the buses aswell (yes with children on board) . we are a fairly small district with an enrolment at around 2,200 students but we cover nearly 600 square miles and of that 80% is the most expensive realestate on the planet which is how our district is funded (unlike most public schools that are state funded ) so we gots lots of money to spend which is nice as we keep our fleet in very good condition , that and were one the highest paid districts . In all the best part about my job is were not a production shop so we can take our time on jobs and I'm my own boss so as long as my work gets taken care of i don't get hasseled by "the man" and i can do what ever i want :brows: . i think that about covers it

Mike I wanted to buy a cheap truck just to get me by because some careless driver pulled out in front of me and totalled my XJ I loved so much(seriously ask my girlfriend!!). After looking briefly at '90-'92 Ford Rangers I thought "hey Jeep made a truck!" and started searching for one. I found a nice looking 2wd 4.0L one that I liked so after many questions and a language barrier I decided just to drive and see it for myself. I borrowed my good friends truck and trailer and my girlfriend and I were off. When parked at a gas station for a pit stop a guy was walking back to his car after paying for his fuel when something rare caught his eye. He gave it a look and then stopped and looked back at the truck on the trailer. His second look is what will always stick with me and it warmed my heart. After returning 21 hours later round trip I decided to restore it. As some of you know my girlfriend has been an inspiration and the driving factor to the project. So to answer your question, it's not the most expensive car that gets people excited, it's the unique one that many people can relate to and find tasteful. Thus why I restored the truck, and I have countless stories of head turners and the look in their eyes is priceless.

Which is partially why I love 'em.
