4:11 to 4:10

Is this a joke question? The gear ratio will stay the same even w. a missing tooth, for awhile. But eventually the skip introduced by the missing tooth will permanently change the gear ratio to full lock. :D Might work though on medieval water wheel.

Let's PRETEND that this could be done.

 

From what I understand 4.11 ratio has 37/9 teeth, 4.10 has 41/10, and 4.09 has 45/11

 

For 4.11, if you went from 37 on the ring to 36, your ratio would be 4:1

If you knocked one off the pinion, your ratio would be 4.625:1

 

But again... it's just not how that works.

this reminds me of a joke on pirate a long time ago, a guy got all pissed off because he welded his ring gear to his pinion gear because thats what he thought they told him to do, it went on for like 10 pages.

My old Dana 35 spit out several ring gear teeth. but I lost teeth on the pinion too so it balanced out. :D driving that last mile to work was like someone hitting your seat frame with a sledge hammer. :ack:
