Model trains??

I have quite a bit of N scale stuff, but it's still boxed up from moving to Canada in 1987. Had a half completed set up in the attic back in Europe, but no photos.

Might finally remember to take it back to the States with me this holiday season, even though I'm at least a few years away from having time to mess with it again. When I do get it set up again, finished or not, if I'm moving again the train set will be sold with the house. The last set up took me 4 months to break apart. Boxed up the equipment, dumpstered the scenery.

A guy I went to school with's dad had a ton of them. I mean, a ton. They had at least a 900 sq foot basement, and that's all that was down there other than the utility crap. Probably $10,000 invested in trains, track, and scenery. They had hundreds of unbuilt cars for "spares"

I always thought it was fascinating, but a little too pricey for me.

Mine is all Marklin (Don't know how to do the accent on the 'A'), but a new hobby store opened up just outside of town, so I might buy some new stuff to stash away also. I have enough track, but last I checked I couldn't find any engines... And my power supply us runs off 220V, so I could use one of those also.

Train stuff is incredibly cheap here as compared to Europe. Or maybe prices have just dropped over 22 years.

My grandpa worked for Union Pacific, and my dad was an architect that designed train yards and switching stations for Union Pacific. When i was a kid I remember my dad having train stuff set up in our house at that time. Not sure what is left, but I should look into it. My grandpa also has a really old larger scale train kit that is really neat and still functional. I never had any real interest in being a train engineer or anything of the such, but there is something about setting up a cool track/landscape setup that occupies a small portion in the back of my mind.

I used to have a bunch of HO stuff. Actually, I still have some. I saved the better of my engines and a bunch of the electrical junk, IIRC. It's all in storage somewhere at my parents house (they have lots of 'stuff' there. Most of it nobody has any idea of what it is, and the space isn't needed so nobody has ever looked at it).

I doubt I'll ever get back into it. My life is a long list of sidetracks, jeeps, trucks, girls, trying to buy a house, traveling job, etc.

I have an HO layout that I started 20 years ago and still haven't finished, that seems to be the way this hobby works. I haven't really done much with it in the past 5 years or so but I still run the trains now and then.

Very nice Job.... and those are some great pictures.

I work for the same company that Allen McCelland worked for. I had the opportunity to visit his V&O Railroad several years ago... talk about a trip to heaven...

Thanks...funny you should mention the V&O, that was one of my inspirations when I was trying to plan what I wanted to build. If only I had as much space as Allen had!

When you took the photos, are the trackside done with a pinhole lens, or something else?

Being an enginner or Conductor would be an enjoyable job id think.

It can be for those guys for sure. My office is right next to the yardmaster's office and thats where they all hang out when there aren't trains to run somewhere. They are all really cool down to earth guys, fun to hang around with.

I am the railroad's civil engineer, basically the guy that designs & builds the track for the big beasts to run on. Its alot of fun, something new everyday.
