bigalpha Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 My MJ only has the metal loops down inside the bed to use as tie-downs. At some point, there were rails on the top of the bed, as evident by the dozens of holes that are there. What have you done in regards to bed rails/tie downs?
mjeff87 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 kinda hillbilly-ish, but I'm using large eyebolts with fender washers at each corner on top of the bedrails. Cheap, yes.....attractive, no. But I do use my MJ as the truck it was built to be sometimes, and nothing about it is attractive anyway :D Jeff edit: not the best pic, but this is what I'm talking about. Image Not Found
vaquaro Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 XJ roof racks Cool idea , I'm borrowing that one for sure 8)
jtdesigns Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I bought 6 of these to mount on the outside of my truck (3 on each side).. Just havent yet....
bigalpha Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 whats wrong with the tie down spots in the bed? Nothing, until the bed is full of gravel or mulch and you need access to that tie down.
beaterjeep Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 XJ roof racks Cool idea , I'm borrowing that one for sure 8) Same here, but for a different application than to be used as tie down locations.
dasbulliwagen Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Whats all that white stuff all over the place?????
beaterjeep Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Whats all that white stuff all over the place?????   The sno-cone factory up the road blew up, and that's all the debris that got scattered around. :fool:
bigalpha Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 I'm not exactly sure how that roof rack idea works, since I don't have one. Can you explain to a retard?
beaterjeep Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I'm not exactly sure how that roof rack idea works, since I don't have one. Can you explain to a retard? Essentially, just screw the roof rack rails into the top inside of the bed and slide the main supports for the cross bars into them. By doing so, it gives you a tie-down location that is at the top of the bed, and can be adjusted to fit the current hauling needs. EDIT: The cross bar support can be seen in Geonovast's first pic.
Geonovast Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 EDIT: The cross bar support can be seen in Geonovast's first pic. You can see it in the second one too, it's up by the truckbox.
beaterjeep Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 EDIT: The cross bar support can be seen in Geonovast's first pic. You can see it in the first one too, it's up by the truckbox. :huh???: I think you mean it can be seen in the second one too. :wavey:
Geonovast Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 :huh???: I think you mean it can be seen in the second one too. :wavey: That's what I said... Don't misquote me. . . . . :rotf:
bigalpha Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 That's a pretty neat idea. Do you have more pics/info/write-up? I love stuff that is modular like that. mmmmm
aemsee Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 That is a great idea. I will also be stealing that one. Just need to trim my bed liner so that it is under rail instead of over rail.
Wildman Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 That is a great idea. I will also be stealing that one. Just need to trim my bed liner so that it is under rail instead of over rail. Why not leave the bed liner over rail, and screw the XJ runners over the top of the bed liner. into the top inside of the bed :hmm:
aemsee Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I figured nuts and washers would give it more strength than self tappers.
aemsee Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hey, ya got any XJ rails sitting around the warehouse there Bob?
Geonovast Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 You don't need self tappers. Bolts I'm using are the original bolts off the XJ. Torx, but the heads sit flush like they're supposed to so the thinger can slide over it.
aemsee Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 So, are you using nutrs and washers, or did you install nutserts like in the XJ roof?
Geonovast Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Used the original bolts and got some jam nuts from the hardware store.
bigalpha Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 Did you have to use 4 sets of the rails? Seems like one track wouldn't be long enough to stretch the whole length of the bed.
