20mpg average with 2.8L daily driving, around 17mpg hauling the camper

Who says the 2.8L is rubbish ;)

23 before it started acting up. 2.5 MPFI AX-5 3.55 on 205/75R15s

Haven't been able to check the 4.0 yet since it doesn't have a non-leaking tank in it. I'd be it doesn't do too well, since I have a tendency to hammer on it.

it's more like gallons per mile, not miles per gallon

4.0/AX15/35's and 4.56's.....+6" (or so) of lift

20-24 before the lift with stock rims and 30x9.5x15s with 3.07 gears

16-17 after the lift with 15"x8" steel wheels, somewhere about 6-7" inches of lift, 3.73s and 33" Mickey Ts. (no $$$ for lower gears right now), I'm going to throw my 31's on to see if it will be better.

It's a 89' with 4.0 and AX-15.

I'm assuming folks posting their mileage whom are running larger than stock tires and/or gears have swapped their speedometer gears or otherwise compensated in some way? :???:

Otherwise your true "miles per gallon" is WAY off.

Yours should not be terrible Jeff. Our YJ has basically the same set-up and gets 17 around town.

yeah, but I'm running a shorty cat and a glasspack, and LOVE to hear the exhaust music and don't mind getting into the skinny pedal to scare the neighbors

Plus I'm carrying about 400 lbs worth of tools/chains/spare parts in my toolbox, plus an engine or two at any given time ;)

With my screwed up fuel gauge notwithstanding, I'd say I'm getting about 10-12 mpg. Far cry from when I first got it in stock trim and it was my DD....I was pulling down low 20's. Ahhhhh, those were the days....

I'm usually between 9-13....this is mainly just driving around town

30x9.50x15 on Crager D Windows and my Speedo is NOT corrected....so mine may be alittle better than I'm reading

Actual mileage corrected for tire size is 24mpg going 60-65, 19 going 70-75, 15 around town, 17 mixed driving.

That is an 87 (Renix) 4.0, AW4, 3.55 gears, 4wd, P235/75R15 extra load range at 41psi. Mileage has stayed the same after 4.5" lift.

between 22-26 with 88 2.5, ax-4, 3.55, 215/75/15's 2wd bone stock at 65-70. twice got 28 drafting a semi at 70 from Winnemucca, nv to Reno,nv and from Evanston, wy to Laramie, Wy with a 30 mph tail wind

about 16-18 city

My 94 XJ (HO 4.0) with AX15 and 3.07 gears get's 17 around town babying it, just under 20 going 60-65, just over 20 going 70-75.

So my Rexix 4.0 gets better mileage (24mpg at 60-65), but the HO gets better at high speeds.

Good thread. I'm getting a consistent 15-16 MPG around town; 19-20 MPG highway cruising 65-75 MPH. Speedo corrected for 4.11 gears and 31" tires. Not bad for the stroker. The new intake manifold helped.
