what did you do to your MJ today?

I resealed my rear slider... When I found the rear carpet COMPLETELY SOALKED!! :fs1: :fs1: :fs1: :wall: :wall: :wall: Its all dried/sucked up as good as I can without pulling the carpet again. I don't know what was used as a sealer, (Its after market and only a couple years old.) but it was all cracked and split. It won't happen again!!

 

Next spring the interior is getting gutted. Really leaning towards a rubber floor and I hate the way my headliner came out as well...

Took a trip the local pick-n-pull yesterday, and picked up from a demolished 88 Comanche its blue short bed canopy, its taillights (for spares, should I break the ones on there now), its Mopar bedliner with raised Comanche logo, as well as a few odds-n-ends interior bits.

Anybody know what that is across the street? I've only seen it move twice this year under its own power.

Looks like an old Jeep pickup... Its the MJ's great great grandfather.

It has 1956 blue with yellow lettering Oregon plates on it, I noticed this morning.

Thats old Willys could pass for the one I bought from a farmer back in 1988 between Bend & Redmond for a $100. Didn't have a brush guard on it though. Did have a 48 Ford flathead in it & PTO winch. I had newer plates than those.

Using this as a guide, http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm I upgraded the wiring to my headlights today. I just came back in, all I can say is that they are WAY better!! I thought that mine where pretty good before, but WOW... IIRC, jeepcoMJ (Pat) also did a nice write-up on the subject. Thou I couldn't find it. :oops:

 

It took a couple hours, cause I wanted the wire tucked away and the install nice and clean. So out came all the front lites, grill and winch to gain enough access. I didn't do pictures as the write up is very thorough. Besides, its all exposure. Hard to "see" difference in pics alone. I used all fine stranded 14Ga wire, 2 new headlight plugs and 2 40amp relays. I didn't solder anything, but used marine grade crimp connectors with dielectric grease on all exposed wire connections.

 

I'm not sure the improvement will be as advantageous with std stock or halogen headlights. But with the H4's I installed a couple years back, there is a very worthwhile improvement.

broke my coolant tank cap ( i don't know when), and ended up pumping all my anti-freeze onto the ground at Farmers Elevator this after noon, then spent the next hour trying to get anti-freeze back into the engine. man I'm on a roll of breaking stuff :fs1:

if that were my willys, i would never paint it. it looks so sick as is.

 

Its the patina that makes an old vehicle like that. That takes age, and wisdom.

 

To paint that would be an auto-crime.

Pulled a j-10 out of a barn, spun it around and pushed it back into the barn( with manche), for a friend who didn't want the vehicle nose in but the steering wheel is locked and he can't find the key :nuts: Would have been more work then it was worth if it didn't give me a chance to drag something around. :clapping:

I'm not sure about the J10 column, but in the XJ/MJ column, it's not hard at all to remove that lock ring if you can't find the key to unlock the column. All you need is a steering wheel remover, lock plate spring compressor, some screwdrivers, and about 30 minutes of your time.

 

J10 might be different though, but I can't imagine it is. :dunno:
