This Comanche is located in a salvage yard in Memphis that I visited today. It is at Warford Auto Parts. I can't guarantee that last digit of the VIN. The pic I took just wasn't clear enough. When I get to my other computer, I'll post a picture of it. It is a red Pioneer, sliding back glass, looks like a 60/40 bench seat with headrests. decal on door was gone, but I saw something in a sticker under the hood about complying with 1988 ..........whatever, so maybe an 88.

Hello All! Obligatory I'm new to the Club and I was raised a Jeep guy sentence. Anyhow, I have been looking for my own MJ for almost two years now... and finally I found one! I created this topic in order to record my build process, and to hopefully find some input on what to do and tricks on doing installs and whatnot. So far I've made two lists: One for necessary repairs to get done first in order for my Jeep to pass inspection, and a list of potential gradual modifications. It is a Red '87 Comanche SporTruck, with the short box, inline six, 231 transfer case, dana 30 front and 35 rear, and of course that POS Peugeot BA 10/5 (* means completed) Necessary Repairs include: Driver and possibly passenger floor pan repair Driver front marker light Signal backfeed fix* Driver and passenger side mirrors* New coolant overflow tank* Fix roof rack holes (from previous owner)* Put in a Metric Speedometer (?) Valve Cover Gasket replacement* Possible Distributer O-ring replacement Heater Control valve replacement Clean gunk off Transmission New Windshield* Potential Mods include: New axles to replace the Dana 30 front and 35 rear (maybe 44s?) Transmission swap from BA 10/5 to an AX15 or an Automatic XJ tranny (not sure which one to do yet) Bumpers front and rear '33 or '35 inch tires A couple inches of lift Interior overhaul (cracked dash, and piece below glovebox, bench seat is ripped) Stereo and Speakers New paint job and SporTruck Decals Closed system radiator to a double or triple core system with a cap Bedline the bed This is my basic outline! Stay Tuned !

Hey, so i just picked up my first Comanche, its a 1987 4x4 2.5L 5 spd. sporTruck in red. It's a project to say the least, but I'm excited none the less. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have all the tools and access to most of the machines to do most of what I need to, only major problems being: 1: Funds 2: Minor access to heated building to work on it in the frigid Illinois weather as my garage is not heated and my dads garage has two cars in the front heated garage and 3 cars in the heated shop in the back yard :fs1: he has more projects than me I think It has a few issues that i currently know of and I've been doing a ton of reading on here and everything is super super helpful, it cuts 75% of the diagnosis work out of it. Issues being: 1: 4x4 does not engage to front axle (believe its the stupid vacuum issue; Easy fix) 2: Brake lights do not work, and blinkers on the drivers side just light up the brake light on that side... (screams ground issue to me; Should be a relatively simple fix) 3: Intermittent knocking noise under cab on drivers side/center floor, sounds like maybe a trans/t-case mount may be loose or missing, happens at weird RPM's weather the vehicle is stopped or driving, haven't had a chance to get under it and check out where its originating from yet 4: No heat... maybe a heater core from what I can find... the blower motor is working, open to any help on this one 5: Previous owner said it gets death wobble, I have yet to verify that as I've only been to 45mph so far, but hey its a jeep what do you expect right? 6: Radio is inoperable HA who cares I just want to hear the roar of that beastly 2.5L screaming down the highway at 50mph, no but seriously that's the least of my worries as I have a history with car audio so it should be somewhat simple when I get around to it 7: Parking brake doesn't work, haven't looked much into this yet... can't be terrible 8: Speedometer is not working, not sure if the cable is busted or just detached or....? The truck currently runs, drives, and stops, and is not too bad in the rust department and my dad is a body-man so what rust that is there can be taken care of somewhat easily, so that's a plus... Clearly I couldn't pass it up for for $350 The booty-my first view of the truck The front and side view of her Taking her home! Yeah she runs but i had to drive 4 hours away to get it so definatly not going to drive it back :shake: Got her in the garage to check a few things out but had to move it out shortly after Interior is looking pretty good, needs a few window crank handles (got a free vice grip out of the deal ) This is where she sits now! The block heater makes all the difference in startups though wow! Yes I know the top is ugly :ack: but I'm probably going to leave it on for winter, the bed is pretty nice on the inside! ...and I will pull the carpets and fix the floors come spring time! Any suggestions, criticism, or help would be welcomed and appreciated!!!

Well, this is my intro post and the start of my build thread. My name is Brent and I'm a jeepaholic. I'm not new to jeeps as this is my 3rd that I've owned and the 4th in the family. First jeep was owned by my father back in the early 2000's. It was a 1992 XJ 2wd 4door. It had around 250,000 miles when the speedo quit, therefor the odometer stopped working and we had no idea how many miles it actually had after that. We kept it for a while then regretfully sold it. Second jeep was a 1999 XJ 4wd 4door. I still have this one, it's my crawler/trail beater/trailer queen. I'll post more about it later. Third was a 2005 WK 5.7hemi. I bought it to tow my XJ with and for a DD. It was a fantastic vehicle to the motor gave up at 136,000... Sold. Now we have the MJ. I purchased this beast on Sep 6th 2015 from a guy about an hour away from me. Plans are to treat it with respect and restore and clean the truck to use as a DD. I have no plans to lift and offroad it due to I have the XJ for that and I need a solid DD. Specs: 1988 4.0 183,000miles 5speed 2wd shortbed Most everything on the truck is factory although I have noticed somethings have been replaced. I'm not sure what # owner I am but I think either 3rd or 4th. The truck had some issues when purchased of course, first thing I noticed was surging at idle until it was drove and warmed up, second was an oil leak from the pan (according to the PO) that dripped on the exhaust, then there were the obvious things, paint is crap, couple dents and holes in the body, underside was covered in grime from the oil leak, headliner had been taken out and carpet was long gone... On the plus side, It has a new valve cover gasket, battery, cables and starter. New radiator for a newer model xj (according to PO) and an updated cooling system (according to PO). Floor pans have had the rust cut out and has been patched by the PO and rolled with what looks to be cheap bedliner. Bluetooth radio with some crap speakers behind the seat and a decent set of rubbers. Black interior with a freshly reupholstered bench seat in naugahyde. So far I have eliminated the c101 connector, freshened up the grounds (i have cable and stuff to replace some of them and do the standard ground add-on's), replaced the oil pan gasket (which made the leak alot worse), went through all the plugs under the hood and truck and cleaned and greased, gave it a well needed bath, changed oil and filter, inspected the entire thing from top to bottom, greased all the zerk fittings, and cleaned the interior. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff but if you are still reading at this point, you either have no life or are a true champion. I will be posting pictures when I have the chance although I have come to find out that posting pictures to this site is a pain to say the least. Some will be with my phone and some with my camera. but for now you only get a couple outside pictures. I'll post more tomorrow.
