  1. Picked up a mostly finished 97+ swapped 88 SWB. Plan is finish the swap get it driving, paint it, then 3 inch lift, flat bed, 33” tires. Need a nice daily capable of working and carrying my tools.

Picked up a Swb 4cyl,5spd,4x4 last week to build into a crawler now that my 88lwb is done and driving nice! tentative plans are as fallows: Keep stock drive line except axles those will be a G2 44 that I will pull from my other MJ as it just does street and gravel road stuff, rear axle will be an Isuzu rodeo 44( these axles use same larger 9” ring gear at the jk rubicon’s and a pinion that rivals a d60! Will also be doing a 231/231 doubler and goal tire size is 37-40’s! will be doing 2x6 rockers full interior cage tied to bed cage and bobbing the bed I’m thinking 8”
  3. My latest acquisition. I’ll get it in the registry once I get the interior emptied. It’s an 88 Pioneer, 4.0, 5 speed (AX-15 swapped in), D30 and D35, looks to have a 3 inch lift. The only rust that I’ve found on the truck is in the floors. It needs front fenders, which I have, a header panel, which I have, and doors, one of which I will need to source. It came with most of the needed parts to swap to a grey interior from a tan one (not sure I will), grey MJ bucket seats, and of course, a sportbar, which will find its way into the my blue truck, and a bunch of misc parts. What’s the plan for the truck? I do not know, as of now, the first step is to make it fun and drive, then I will probably start replacing the damaged body panels. This truck is honestly nicer than my blue truck was when I first got it, but pictures make it look nicer than it really is.
  4. Starting up my thread for my Comanche build. As it sits today, its a 1992, 4.0L, 5Sp, 2wd, SWB, Dana 35 that runs and drives fine with a few small issues. Overall, looking to make it go anywhere and be able to daily drive if needed. Currently, its being used off and on for quick rides/errands. History: Bought it from @kryptronic last fall Installed 2 new tires, changed oiled and trans fluid to get ready for inspection Passed PA inspection with the addition of license plate lights (the only one i didnt check) Picked up a 99 Donor with a blown engine for the start of the 97+ swap (4wd, 5sp, dana 30 and dana 35) Fixed a power steering leak Bought a (supposedly) XJ Dana 44 rear axle with what the seller thinks were 4.56 gears and no mounts for $100 Sold to a jeep aficionado here just south of Pittsburgh. Current Issues: Damp Floorboard (need to investigate more) Some weather stripping is rough Multiple Dents/Dings (especially in the bed) Windows are rough to roll down Plans: 97+ Conversion (interior and exterior) Onboard Air Air lockers possible axle shaft upgrades Determine gearing (will depend on lift/axles) SOA Rear Front lift (3 Link, 4 Link?) Steering Upgrades Bumpers, rock sliders, bed rack, bed sliders? Lighting upgrade (LED or halogen, adding fogs) Tires/Wheels Paint/body panel fix Frame stiffeners?   5. Hey y'all! I had an account here years ago (almost a decade!) when I was in college, but don't remember the username or email it was associated with, so I'm back with a new username, and more importantly a new project MJ! Chassis: 1988 SWB. Originally had a 2.5L/4spd/4WD setup Previous-previous owner (PPO) swapped in from a 1998 XJ: 4.0L HO AX15 5spd NP231 TC XJ dash/interior XJ center console XJ overhead console XJ bucket seats XJ power doors/mirrors (not installed yet) Has a Dana 30 up front and a 35 in the rear. Currently it doesn't start, I believe just because of the clutch safety switch. Waiting on an OBDII scanner to pull the codes to make sure before I order parts. Also the brake booster vacuum connector broke, so I'm gonna pick up the doorman rebuild kit soon. May just jump the CSS wires to get it started and see if there are any immediate concerns. PO used her as a DD for 2.5years prior to the clutch master/slave cylinder assembly going out, then potentially damaging the CSS wiring. Oil change, get rid of the cheapo microguard filter for a WIX. Check plugs and make sure they're champion truck copper plugs (RC12LYC) and not something hotter. Plug wires seem decent, need to also check cap/rotor. Current project build plans: Rust: PPO did POR15 much of the cab interior, which is quite helpful Patch both holes in the floorpans. Driver's side is pretty minor, passenger is slightly larger, but I think I'll be able to just use 18ga sheetmetal without having to get formed floorpan replacements Some more POR15 and then Rhino line the cab floors (not gonna carpet) patch bed rust out above wheelwells, hopefully again I can just use 18ga pieces strip, POR15, then black Rhino-line up to the trim line running the length of the truck, also the truck bed strip, POR15, then forest green (maybe Rhino-lined, maybe not) paint above the trim line, hood, cab, etc POR15 underboy where needed then underbody coating (the road salt is nuts out here in the Twin Cities!) Axles: Front: Dana44 HP (will probably truss a bit), chromoly shafts, aussie locker Rear: Dana44 (likely, may do Ford 8.8 if I have trouble finding a 44) trussed, chromoly shafts, air locker, disc brakes Wheels/Tires: Cragar Soft 8s, 35" M/Ts (Likely BFGs, but will depend on pricing/sales when I'm ready for 35s) Suspension/Lift: Front: 6" lift with long arms, undecided on 3-link vs 4-link atm Rear: Was originally going to just go SOA with potentially longer shackles to get to 6", however it appears the passenger side front leaf mount had rusted out, and was re-welded, sorta kinda in the same place, so I may go with a 4 link system with coils, but haven't decided on that either.
  6. Hey everybody, my name is Dan, and this is my first post. I've been lurking a while now and I have to say, this is one of the best forums I've ever come across. The vast amounts of information and inspiration are very helpful to new owners. And there is a shocking abscence of bickering, oversensitivity and internet tough guys that seem all too common on other forums. With that said, it's about damn time to start talkn bout Comanches... I've had my eye on getting a Comanche for a couple years. Started seriously looking last January, had a few slip through my fingers, but finally got one in March. Got lucky and found an 87 SWB 2wd 5spd with just under 130k and completely stock. Picked it up for $1800. ;) It had some water leaks(carpet was wet) and needed tires. When I went to leave after sealing the deal, the starter stopped working. So the seller gave me back $60 for a new starter. So for the next day I had to give the starter some love taps to get her going. Turned out to be a loose signal wire. Score! Also, I forgot how much I like driving midsize trucks with a manual trans. Here she is a few days after I bought her: Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics before I started wrenching on it.. Was just really excited. I installed a tool box that I had on a couple other trucks and bought those wheels/tires on craigslist. $70 with pretty worn BFG A/Ts. But they weren't dry rotted like the tires that came on the truck, so that's something.
  7. Well guys, I've added yet another Jeep to the fleet... 1988 Jeep Comanche SporTruck short-bed, 5-speed (Peugeot with ~260k.. eek!), 2WD with a DANA 44 and SUNROOF! Guy I bought it from said it's overheating and he's replaced the water pump, thermostat and flushed the radiator... He thinks the head gasket is blown or cracked head... Thing is, there's no water in the oil and it's not blowing steam out of the exhaust... I think he didn't burp the closed cooling system correctly when he changed out the reservoir. Oh well, it's mine now and I've already obtained a spare 4.0 from a '97 XJ with 140k miles.
  8. My dad and I took a trip out to Charlotte today to handle some business with his tenants at a rental place and on the way back home, we stopped off for lunch at Sonic in Harrisburg. Low-and-behold, a genuine Jeep Comanche was parked a handful of yards away in the next lot over, behind the Pizza Hut. I remember seeing it there last year as well when I still lived in Charlotte. Seems like it may be owned by an employee there. I grabbed a few pictures and was going to grab the VIN, but the VIN plate in the dash was missing. I think it may be an '87 because it still has the AMC branded seat belts but it was a SWB (so not an '86 at least). No idea if it was a 2.5L or 4.0L since the badges have been removed. I would've put a CC card under the wiper, but we were driving my dad's Volvo, so none to be had at that moment. Anyone on this forum own it by chance? I would have stopped in right quick to speak with you, but was pressed for time.
