Got the dash done. It really came out great. Gonna look good against the orange. Just got the baja fiber hood to finish and install and then into the paint booth. -
Auto 4x2 to manual 4x2

Do not use an HO flywheel use a Renix Flywheel. The CPS triggering is different. So pre 91 flywheel and post 94 clutch and post 94 external slave bellhousing. I used the Core Shifter found on Ebay. Great upgrade for the AX15. The later year AX15 the better there were some decent upgrades made to later year units. Make sure it is a 2WD trans with the tail housing. The 4WD didn't have the tail housing as the Transfer case bolted up directly to the back of the trans. It looks like bothe the AW4 and AX15 rear driveshafts are 53.125" so you may be good with reusing your driveshaft.Don't forget to get the right pilot bearing. 1992 - 1999 AX15 have a 3/4" pilot tip, prior to that was 19/32. Go to Novak conversions they sell the correct pilot bushings for every combination of year. -

Auto 4x2 to manual 4x2

Just did a little more research you should be good from 1986 to 1996. Pretty much the same pedal, clutch cylinder pretty much the same. In the 1997 and on Jeeps the clutch cylinder support bracket was removed and the clutch master mounting holes moved. The rod coupling also changed. I would use the 1994 - 1996 sealed clutch master/slave cylinder kit. Prebled. Buy metal not plastic if you can. Attached the part manual pages for your reference. Also a pic below of the assembly I am putting in my MJ. 1986 1990 Clutch pedal.pdf 1997 1999 Clutch pedal.pdf 1994 1996 Clutch pedal.pdf 1991 1993 Clutch pedal.pdf -

I have done this twice now. My advice is an external slave bellhousing from a 94 and up XJ. Crossmember will work. can't remember if you need a different trans mount. The bracket from the mount to the trans is different if I re.wmber correctly. Get a 1994- 1998 Clutch pedal. Your firewall should have indents for the clutch bolt holes and the master cylinder. Use a prebled master and slave cylinder. You will thank me they are a pain to bleed. Luk clutch/flywheel and an AX15 from an XJ or TJ as you don't care about transfer case clocking. I think you will need a different length driveshaft. You will need a trans tunnel cover plate from a manual. Inner and outer shifter boot. I think you have to jump a pin or two on the auto harness to bypass the neutral lock on the auto. Think that is about. Probably forgot something. Hopefully others who have done this will chime in. POR15 won't stop rust but it helps stopping it from starting... Nothing really stops rust IMHO except cutting out the rot and replacing it with new metal.

I agree. Being born in a country where nobody drove an auto when I learned to drive I cringe when I see some of the stick shift driving that goes on!!!

Well known issue. I put the LuK one in my Wrangler howled from day 1, replaced it with a steel National one and no issues. Plenty of people have had the same issue. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

Sorry I meant LUK.

Lux Gold. Have one in my Wrangler and Comanche. Great clutches. Just don't use their bearing if you buy the kit, poor quality.

So she is almost ready for paint, just have to finish the hood, which is proving to be quite the challenge. Hope to get paint on in the next 2 - 3 weeks. Going to start on the custom LS harness in the next couple of weeks. I have and old NOS jeep harness so I am going to use the Jeep PDC and wire in the LS injectors, sensors and PCM into that harness. This way the harness will look pretty close to factory. Not going to keep the Jeep PCM. EFI Connection is a great source for all the connectors for the build. Once that is done I will source a long block L33 and start the engine build. -
'86 2.8l-'02 5.3l swap
Limeyjeeper replied to Jon Morrell's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Going through the same thing myself. You can use the Corvette fuel regulator and keep your stock fuel pump. I am building my own LS harness and integrating it into the Jeep harness, using the jeep PDC. Gonna dump the auto shutdown relay and use it to drive a second fan. If you want AC- flash an 2001-2003 Camaro PCM. It controls the fans much better. You will need to think about cable vs drive by wire throttle. I am doing cable just because it is easier. Again you need the early PCM flash that will support an IAC. You can also use an LS1 intake to lower the engine height so you don't need a cowl hood. It is an interesting learning curve for a jeep enthusiast. EFI connections are a great vendor for all the connectors you will need to integrate the harnesses. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -
Transmission Option?
Limeyjeeper replied to BustedKnuckleJK's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
AX15 is a surprisingly strong trans. NV is good but non Chinese parts are difficult to find if you need to rebuild. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -
It risks the windshield hitting the tabs and cracking as our MJ bodies flex a LOT. The installer has to position the windshield perfectly. There isn't much room. The 2 times I have had it done the installer always insisted on cutting off the tabs but each to their own.
-
You will need to get the installer to grind off the locating tabs for the trim or it won't fit right. Also make sure they get the seal right down tight against the body or it will howl really bad at speed. Any gap and the wind gets under the seal. Like mine does!!

Radiator for 1991 manual transmission 6 cal. engine
Limeyjeeper replied to Shiro's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
By the look of it there were only two part nos listed for a 1991 LHD comanche 52004921 with max cooling and 52028134 without. So it appears that there was no manual transmission radiator offered. There was on the RHD version. -
Parts are parts question

All 4.0 blocks having the same engine mount.points. Completely interchangeable. They didn't cast different blocks for different applications. A bit like the LS blocks. Edit. To clarify - However the 2001-2006 TJ blocks and 1999 to 2004 WJ blocks did have blocked off mounting points that would need to be tapped along with a water pump hole. There are some other differences that make a swap difficult but not impossible. All the ZJ and XJ blocks were all interchangeable.. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -

Floors are fixed. Exactly like factory including the bead rolled lines and plug holes. New door hinges welded on and strengthened. Dents all pulled out. Next job primer. Also I have decided to do a 4.8 Gen III LS swap. It will give me 285hp+, which is plenty for a 3,100lb Comanche. The 4.8 puts less stress on the cooling system. Hoping to use an upgraded Jeep radiator., as I would like to use the 2 fan LHD, RHD, factory setup. We will see. Going to put the AX15 and NP242 behind it. Going to do an LS1 intake, so I don't need a cowl hood. Using Novak mounts and flange adaptors. Novak Headers, Deatschwerksworks injectors, and I can use the stock fuel pump with a Novak fuel regulator. This way I don't grenade the drivetrain. Also going to put PRP Enduro Elite seats in. I have a set in my Wrangler which I will use. They test fitted really well. Gave me at 2" extra legroom which will make all the difference. -

AZ Jeff can you remember what the paint code was? -
The stock system should be 2.25" from the downpipe to the muffler at the very least. The walker I have is 2.25 to the tailpipe. Maybe somebody narrowed the tailpipe.

Titan have a bit of a mixed reputation in the stroker community. Not sure about their regular reman engines. You might be better off with an ATK engine. A bit more but a decent reputation. I have one of their strokers (they build for Mopar) has been ok so far.

Well she has gone off for paint. Going to be about 2 Months. Plenty to do in the meantime. Change the D30 front knuckles is the next task so I can mount the Wilwood's. Scored a really good dash so it is going to be much easier to restore. The paint guy is going to install get new vinyl and foam where needed. The original would have been too much of a project. All the plastic was cracked and glued. Going to rebuild the heater box next. Needs evaporator and heater core plus all new foam seals. Pedal assembly has been refurbed and the firewall holes drilled. It lines up perfectly with the clutch master cylinder. -
Try the Dynomax super turbo muffler with a stock Walker system. Quiet in the cab but sounds awesome. It is the best compromise I have found to date. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
