Fender Flare Mounting?
RochesterMJ replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
To install the flares with screws/washers/nuts and keep your liners: Use a hex head screw (1.5" is borderline too long) Attach the flare by itself. tighten the nuts down real good Install the wheel liner and secure it to the screw with another set of nuts/washers You'll have two nuts on the same screw I used #10 gauge screws. That size is a bit small but I haven't off-roaded with it (no place local to legally go) -
The only thing I don't like is the 3.5 week wait. Might make sense for Bowl games but not a Championship playoff series. Don't introduce an extra coaching element for how to keep momentum and intensity up over a long break.

This is pretty cool, that was a good find. I looked for hot wheels sized MJ's before and was shocked that I couldn't find any Comanche toys other than some clear shell for an RC truck

Listen to Hornbrod - if you can, park it for the winter. I got a 91 from Missouri a couple years ago, no visible rust. Parked it one winter, drove it one winter. There is rust-through on both rockers now and the paint above the rear flares started bubbling. I'm sure the rust was lurking but the snow/salt really accelerated it.

The attention to detail is remarkable, in the side shot it looks like they bedlined the rockers. Are there holes in the floor too? :laughin:

Aww, nuts. Looks like I've exposed myself as an A-hole. Apologies for the attitude Hornbrod and doing it in your posting Pete. Here's how I accidentally bought a car on EBay. I had been cruising the internet for a couple months looking for a Comanche when I came across 2 promising 1991's in Missouri. One was red from a private seller on craigslist - contacted him a couple times and asked for more pics. The other was a white LWB 4X4 one owner vehicle with no rust. I was certain that white one was going to go for over 5 or 6K (a couple others had done so around that time). I put a bid in just to prove to myself I was serious and was immediately outbid. The next day, before work, I put another bid in, was more than I wanted to spend but was no big deal because I was certain this truck was going to sell for well over my max bid. When I got home I saw the auction had ended, bidding had stopped $15 below my max and I now had to figure out how to get a truck from SW MO to Michigan. The kicker is that I hadn't checked my e-mail and before I put those bids in, the red MJ owner had sent 30 pics of his truck and other than paint, it looked great, definitely would have bought that one instead. (ended up in the registry under member name Fitzworld). The truck I got was not what I was expecting: lots of backyard body work and the mechanicals hadn't been maintained for at least 5 yrs. Long story short - if you're used to $30 auctions on EBay, don't apply those tactics in $4K auctions. Its my DD now and just like Spiderman - I love driving my MJ

http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/4636783811.html I'm not interested but do you think there is $900 of parts you could harvest off this?

it's beautiful!

Thats on Craigslist in Detroit for $6000. http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/4625577444.html -
So you accidentally bought your MJ on Ebay, then think you used U-Ship to deliver it. Huh? Pete, I've used UShip for a few motorcycle transfers in and out, and all of them went well. Of course bikes are easier to ship, but the following applies to all. When you place your ad and the bids start coming in, read the feedback, correspond with the shipper off-line, ask your questions, and it's pretty easy to see where the BS is and where the reliability is. U-Ship is kind of a crap shoot, but the longtime shippers on U-Ship remain there for a reason. They get the job done a lot cheaper than the commercial outfits. . Yaaay, you can read! Yaaaay

I (accidentally) got my truck on EBay a couple yearas ago. Used U-Ship (i think) to post getting the truck from SW Missouri to Detroit. Got a lot of calls from truckers and brokers, went with Kim from Zip-Ship, she was pretty aggressive and took care of me well. Placed the order Friday night and had the truck by Tuesday afternoon, really couldn't have gone any better.

Street Racer/Hot Rod MJ

Jealousy from the Rust Belt. That junk yard truck is soo clean. This is a typical junk yard MJ up here -
I've had a Downey Tonneau cover (Slant Side for 7' bed, part # 206040) for a year and a half. Absolutely no complaints, would recommend to anyone. Fits perfect, installs and removes easy. Cover doesn't show any wear, nor do the snaps. The snaps are a solid plastic that snap into a track, works well and seems pretty rugged so far, like these a lot better than the metal snaps that break off the cover after a couple years. I've got mine installed through my bedliner, clamps hold fine haven't had to retighten. I remove the cover at least once a month and take the whole system off a couple times a year. They shipped quick IIRC.

87 SWB 2WD 4cyl? Manual. Truck has complete decent Black Interior, rear flares and liners. Sunroof, running lights and a funky wood rear bumper. I took its tailgate, taillights, rear harness, and back panel. Truck is at Parts Galore on Warren Ave near I-94 in Detroit.

Truck is still there. Tilt steering. Decent bench seat. Rear Speaker brackets (would have been mine but I didn't have my big Torx sockets with me).

Amazing Home Brewed Drift Truck... Sorry, But Mazda Content

That Cyclone is awesome. Would love to have Comanche version or a WK SRT8 (2006-2010 body style). Anyone have a slammed XJ? -
You ever think our MJ's will demand the kind of prices the Scramblers do? Usually see them for sale in the mid teens or more, don't think I've ever seen one up for less than $8K.

Are Base Mj's Harder To See In Traffic Than Other Cars?
RochesterMJ replied to RochesterMJ's topic in The Pub
benjy_26 - I think you nailed it. I do notice that when I pull into traffic, guys in Mustangs, Challengers or Full size trucks will get uppity and speed up, seemingly to teach me a lesson and show me how slow and dumb I am, but they never get within 5 car lengths. The MJ aint no lame dog -
Are Base Mj's Harder To See In Traffic Than Other Cars?
RochesterMJ replied to RochesterMJ's topic in The Pub
In a weird way I was kinda hoping that the problem was my truck and not that everyone else is getting dumber and more distracted. -
I've got a white MJ with the flat black front end. Seems like people are ridiculously pulling out right in front of me a lot more often than I've noticed in my other vehicles. Not only do they pull out, or across, but then they get up to speed very casually, like they have no idea what they've just done. :fs1: I assume people have a hard time seeing it with its flat black front end and white paint. It's gotten to the point where I've started to drive with my lights on all the time. Anyone else notice this happening more in their base MJ's than their other cars?

Used to be a Firefighter/EMT. Every Friday night that I was on, we'd end up outside the same bar with some freshly Tazered drunk screaming in my face how he was going to sue me for everything I had. The general public is bad, the drunk public is ridiculously illogical. I truly don't understand how the Police deal with it

Thats awesome, no car worries for 10 years or an extra $3K when she sells it. Congrats, she won the car warranty lottery
-
My winter driving advice is to avoid any sudden speed changes. Once you break traction you're gonna slide and lose control. Smoothly accelerate and brake especially if you're on a curve or going around a corner. Have fun with it and if you do find yourself out of control (and fully insured), pray that the rusty panels take all the damage.

Best Factory Replacement Tires
RochesterMJ replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got a set of Mastercraft Courser AT2's. Good value, made in the US, really good in the snow and wet roads. Seem to be wearing well. Had wanted to get Cooper Discoverer AT3's but cheaped out. No regrets
