thanks...I even picked up my lower longarms from Bullykatz today :D and borrowed his mounts so I can do some measurements. ANNND i found another MJ today that's as mint as mint can be. this one's a secret for a few days while I try and figure out the $$$ factor...if I can't get it you guys will get the pics and contact info. specs; 1988 4.0 auto 165k miles from california. 2wd longbed, absolutely zero rust, mint rear bumper and front bumper, factory fog and cargo light, brand new tires, newer exhaust, fresh paint (did magnet test, no bondo so I assume it's to fix sun fade or match parts if anything was swapped). so far I've found 3 comanches THIS MONTH alone, and gotten them sold to club members to boot (geonovast and bullykatz). how is it that these things are rare? they practically walk up to me and park themselves on my lawn! If I only had the cash, it would be mine....

Yes it was a fun day. I'll be bringing my torches to Pats to cut the rear frame rails in the AM. It should be at my place by 10am. After cutting up the front rails mine are going to be plated on all sides. I can get kinda crazy at times and want it to be ready. The whole frame will be reinforced.

should be, if not use you ones from the carrier you have now.

Welcome, I like your build plan keep us posted. I would suggest a more extensive rollcage to stiffen the chassis for the way it sound like you plan on using it. So what other XJ parts are you swapping? Are you planning on swapping in 4wd?

I'd drive her hard, use all the gear postions, spin her around a few times, hold it on redline and wait for it to blow. :brows:

We can alway bounce between your place and mine depending on what tools we need and if there is a need for my welder or anything. -
Custom 4x4 makes some d-ring mounts that replace the hooks. A front skid helps keep you from hitting your dome on them.

Those dates sound good to me. So whens the meet and greet going to be? Maybe we can make it a wrench-a-thon with some food and drink too. -

With any luck I can make it 4 of us... ;) Better bring the trailer I have a good relationship with the slim pedal. :brows: -
I'm in the process of doing this and will be using a custom mid-length 3-link with a track bar. The lower axle mounts will be even with the botom of the axle tube so nothing will hang below the axle tubes. I'm also rotating the inner C's for the proper caster and pinion angles. The coil spring mounts will be raised 1" and moved back 1" so the axle will sit 1" forward for more fender clearance. The frame mounts will tuck up as much as possible. My inner fenders will be extended forward so the curve ends behind the headlight. I will move the battery and run a different air filter. My flares are raised about 5" and fender openings are cut as much as possible.

If I can get mine done by then I will try to make it. That's right before I get more vacation time at work. I work Tuesday to Saturday and no one ever wants to trade days so I can get Saturday off... I will try thou. -
They are standard d44 gears so you will need the carrier too.

yes

Nice score. So whats the plan of attack?

Buy 2 degree offset upper balljoints and you will gain 2 degrees of caster if they are turned correctly. I put a tack weld on mine after I installed them to make sure they wouldn't turn later on while I was wheeling. You can get them at Napa. If you are worried about the superflex end on your control arms they are adjustable so you can eliminate any looseness caused by wear.

:P it's possible.... and I was wondering if I your welder will weld these perches well enough?...I don't have a welder that will weld it right now (dad's won't do it, and I can't use grandpa's) I'm contemplating figuring out the angle and doing this without putting it in the manche first...not much time to have the truck down and non-functional. It will burn them on no problem.

I suppose you want a vent line bolt too?
-
You coming out of the closet or what? Pats a closet rapper...

It's a good deal for the early HP D60. It probably has neckdown inner axleshafts FYI.
-
The key to this is a light foot on the skinny pedal.... :D Self control is hard to do... :brows: I get about 2 mpg worse the when my wife drives....
-
A front driveshaft from a XJ orZJ would probably be the right size too.

Bingo! That's exactly what started the wheels turning in my head when I filled up the other day and it was $50. This being my DD, that's a once a week event. The O/D for the 700R4 was .70 but first is 3.06 which will give a nice crawl ratio with the 4:1 tcase and 4.11's. Slap some 35's on it for now and then round up all the parts needed for the 700 swap. You'll need a crank sensor, a longer front driveshaft, a shorter rear shaft(unless you comp cut the fenders and move the axle back) a shifter and a properly beefed 700 trans. Probably a few other things too.

i thought your pops said no more Jeeps in the garage? that he did... I can get them in to work on them quick but they can't be in for lengthy periods (no real projects...) ahhh, well you know that there is a nice red barn that could be used :brows: Thats probably off limits too...

There are a bunch of choices in size. 13/16", 7/8", 15/16", 1", 1 1/16", 1 1/8" and maybe more I forget. Some would overpower the front brakes for sure.

I have a couple of drums that are on the welded 8.25. They should last until the next rearend swap. If you need any hardware I should have it too. The shoes are pretty worn but they might be good enough.
