That's my opinion as well. Would rather have the improved safety over convience. That is what I was thinking as well. Taping into the switch off the brake pedal would probably be the right route to take and is why I went to the trouble of pulling the wiring harness all the way under the dash.(cut the crap out of my hand too, as seen in the pic) The only other problem I'm facing is if I go with my plans for a custom roll bar. Then I will have to move the third brake light to the back of it or to the tailgate. Has anyone put one on their roll bar?

I've seen a semi hit a deer on old VA 58 when it was just a two laner and was called suicide strip. (you Virginians know what I'm talking about). Basically it folded the 14 inch tall chrome bumper in half and for about a 1/4 of a mile it looked like something out of a Friday 13th movie. Pieces EVERYWHERE. :ack:

That was my original goal, but I couldn't find one that was flush mount. Had seen a few after market ones with LED's but they were to pricey.

So I've been searching for a good flush mount third brake light that would work with the MJ's. Most of them you would need to cut out a hole to fit them in or they just look wrong on the MJ. However I found a 90 something Nissan pickup today and pulled this. Flush on the back. Instead of a big hole, you would just need to drill two holes for the bolts and one for the wiring. I pulled the wiring all the way back to under the dash. I figured I could splice into the rear wiring harness just before it goes out of the cab behind the seat or run it all the way to the fusebox and tie in there. What does everyone thing of this or the idea of a third brake light?

Here's a couple from my 88 2.5 2wd. I shrank them by half. If these don't help I can send you the big ones. But if you just start taking it all out it looks like this. -
That will be to cool.

So is that rear axle attached to your next project? I figured the way you find good deals all the time, you bought another Heep for next to nothing to get the axle. j/k :D I'll say it again as well, yours is looking good.

I agree alot of items that you buy off the shelf or out of a box that are powder coated are not tuff at all and don't hold up. You have to remember they are trying to make a buck and don't normally use the best of materials or allow extra time/higher temps in the oven. However, take something to a qualified paint shop that specializes in powder coating, and you will be amazed at the difference. Mine is gauranted not to flake, peel, chip, rust or fade and so far it has stood up to it's claim for almost 2 years. Now I'm not out in the quary crushing rocks or anything but they have seen a little action. If the MJ wasn't a unibody, I would have done the frame in a second. I would never have to worry about rust again. :brows: Again this is just my .02

Get the monster mats / slush mats, what ever there called. I have the jeep brand in the TJ and they work great. Will hold a gallon of water. I'm sure they make a generic one that will fit an MJ.

Not to my knowledge, unless you do some modifications. Definetly not a direct swap.

Dark gray with a cowl hood. Hmmm. Where have I seen that? :brows: Check the project link in my sig for that combination. Color is Dark Shadow Gray Metallic and a Reflexion cowl hood

If the bumpers themselves are made of cheapo material, then yeah I wouldn't waste alot of $$. However if they are quality bumpers that will last and take a beating, then I would spend the money I saved on buying them, and have them powder coated. Just my 2 cents. The company I had my TJ's done at did what they call a krinkle finish. Makes them a little slip resistant plus the paint itself will not let dirt bond to it. Kinda like non-stick bumpers. :brows:

Pick n Pull here has a 1/2 off everything sale going on till the 1st. I didn't find one thing that I needed or even wanted. :headpop: I almost pulled some of those. If they are there next time, I'll get them. I've got a real nice tail gate I'll trade ya for the D44. :brows: No rust and just a few small dings.
-
Pick n Pull charges a flat rate for the axles regardless of type. If I remember right it's less than $100. I'll find out tomorrow when I go. It's half off everything sale again. :brows: Now the other jy I look thru charges by type and make. They wanted $250 for a D44.

I think Don Henley said it best, "I make my living off the evening news Just give me something-something I can use People love it when you lose, They love dirty laundry" It's not about the stories, it's about the rating$. Truly a sad time we live in.

Glad to hear that he's doing better. My dog Buzz is now 6 and still a puppy. 100 pounds and thinks he's a lap dog. Had to go to a king size bed so the dog could have more room.

I always like this part, "There's armored cars and tanks and jeeps and rigs of every size"

I've been throught this with several pets, the last was my wifes cat that I gave her our first Christmas after we were married. We put alot of $$ into keeping him as long as we could, over 20yrs. Someone once told me that your pet is family. You then have to ask yourself, what would you do for any other family member. The decision will be tough. Best wishes.
