Yeah that's all well and good if you don't have the underdash coutesy lights. What do you do for those? There is however, a neat little thing called a fuse puller that takes a few seconds more than turning off the switch. I'm thinking the interior fuse doesn't tie into the ECU so the codes should be safe but, I've been wrong before. :dunno:

This what your looking for. I believe it was a 93 ZJ I pulled it from.

Has anyone ever tried these as recovery hooks.
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep, they would be replaced. They are 9.8's so just a little over grade 5. The rings themselves have plenty of room for larger bolts. -
I picked these up today at the JY. Came off a 01 Ford Explorer. I held them up to an XJ while there and they would fit pretty good. Sitting them on the frame they were below the factory bumper and stuck out about 3 in front of it. I know you would need to reinforce the frame to mount them and put a tie in across to the other frame to strenghten it for side pulls but these things are pretty stout. I've got the factory hooks but I may try to use these. Might use them in the rear as well but a lot more modification would be needed there.

I'm with you. I figure if I really have the need to disable them so they don't come on(Stalking someone or coming in too late), I'll wire a micro toggle switch under the dash. You were the last one to post in his thread. :rotfl2: j/k I had it bookmarked because I was going to get them.

That would be 91MJdude's build. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=18422&hilit=replacement+light&start=15 His look great and I thought about those but he still had to trim 1/8 in to get them in. The Discovery ones pop right in and can be taken out without breaken anything or removing the b-pillar. Have a regular twist in bulb that if I look, probably has a LED replacement. Don't get me wrong and I'm not kicking his at all. Just thought it was great that I found a light that fit's right in and looks good. I'm going to test it on the 86 MJ drivers side for awhile. You have to slam the heck out of that door to get it to close so it should give me a good idea on durability. The stock one falls out even when I shim the crap out of it.
-
HAHAHA, Thats what I was thinking when I read that on the light. :D For real? Did you find them or maybe, hopefully, ordered them and have a part #. :brows: That does suck. You can pretty much gaurantee that I'll pull all that come through mine and share them with the group.

Went to the JY today and stumbled across an AMAZING DISCOVERY  that all MJ owners will Love. A Direct snap in replacement for the B-pillar lights  You will have to splice the wires but it snaps right into the excisting hole like it was made for it. Now here's the funny part. It's an interior light from a Land Rover Discovery. :D Enough talk, here's the pic's. In the LH B-pillar In the RH B-pillar Looking from the bottom up. Looking from the top down. You will notice that it has a small gap because of the curve of the panel, but this will not be seen when installed in the truck. Powered Up. Only downside to this is there is only one light per Discovery, so you'll have to find two of them to make a set. These are pretty frequent in my yard so it won't be a problem for me. I looked a little while online to find a part number but all I can find is the bulb #STC1203 ($.95). This lamp is called the Loadspace lamp and is located on the RH side rear cargo area. Not sure what all years will carry this or if maybe other models have them too. Maybe one of you dealership parts guys can find a part number and price for these. Only thing written on it is KIGASS.

You think they might be a little upset that I used Ford dark gray engine enamel on it. Thanks and Welcome to the Club. I have to say, I'm flattered that your first post on the Forum was in my thread. Thanks a lot, and you might want to see the Dr. about that problem. :ack: J/K

88 if I'm not mistaken would follow Chrysler codes. 86 and Part of 87 might use AMC. The link I posted above has his P-code PX6 under Chrysler. His data plate under the hood on the firewall should have his codes on it which should match what was given to him by the VIN search.

Lock Cylinder Install Question
mfpdm replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do you have tilt or standard column? Here's a couple of links with pic's for both that may help you out. http://brackmann.org/berkeley/Jeep/wren ... gwheel.htm http://street2mud.com/webfiles/Key%20Cy ... Column.pdf  -
More than likely, your rheostat is either dirty and not making the proper connection or it is FUBAR all together. You can pull the switch and use a little fine grit sandpaper on it, then hook it back up to see if it was a connection problem.

X6 is classic black. Here's a link that may help. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/choose ... search.y=8

Here's a pic. Like I said, it was already bent some so it's no big deal. The drop hitch actually saved it from being worse. It has two bars on the back of it which tie into the frame. Had thought about removing it several times but didn't. Anyhow, he decided to be nice and let them off the hook for any damages.

No I'm not making my kid pay up. I was refering to the person that hit him. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a nice guy but I'm leaving it up to him to take care of. Afterall he is an adult now. Sometimes good karma goes a long way.
-
I guess I should have mentioned that it wasn't his fault. Me being nice or not is to the person that hit him.
-
So, the kid got rearended today in the 86 MJ. He's fine it just bent the bumper down but no body damage or anything else. The bumper was already bent a little so it wasn't perfect. I'm not too worried about it but I can't decide whether to play the nice guy it's Christmas time and let it go or should I play the grinch and try to get a new bumper out of it. OEM would be nice but would not be found so I would have to go with an aftermarket. FEY's run about $125. Is it worth the hassle because really, I wouldn't get a new bumper and would just pocket the cash. It's dark so don't tell me, :needpics: :dunno:

I talked to a couple of them and they said it wasn't bad. I was going to mention the fact that it seems more Japanese visited the memorial than anyone else. I sat there and wondered what they felt. :dunno: Now that the MightyMo is there, you have the beginning and the end of our war with Japan. Most of the workers on the USS Missouri are old retired guys and do it for free. Here's looking off the brow towards the Arizona memorial.

PM sent.

:agree: I was really moved by it. Out of all the ships that were sunk and damaged during the raid, all but three went back into service. Out of the three, two remain in the waters there at Pearl. Here's a good read. Has all the stat's and a lot more. http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/te ... /facts.htm

1985 2.1L Diesel Trans and T-Case?
mfpdm replied to neohic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I was looking for that link to throw in but couldn't find it. Went to save the link and I found were I put it, under AX-15 swap. Here's a pic of the two side by side from that link. Shows a good comparison of the bellhousings. Guy did a nice write up and the parts list is great. Oh and like Pete said, it's a little more than just swapping the bellhousing. -
Bucket seat restoration and repair. (Lots of Pics)
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I pretty sure they do but, you have to be extra careful with the bench back because of the material on the backside of it. I've pulled one off but I didn't care as I was scapping the seat. Because of the size, I'd do the back and bottom in separate washer loads. I've not tried to convert but I guess with the right tools, it could be possible. I personally would be patient and wait for the set that I want. If you want the "wing back" seats in the long run but don't want to wait, put the 4 dr ones in and keep searching for the 2dr's. Once you find the 2dr's, sell the 4dr's to recoupe your $$. If they are in good shape, you should make a little on the sell as XJ owners are always looking for a good set. I thought for a little while on doing the 60/40 bench swap but even if you get one thats perfect, it still doesn't match the era for out trucks and looks out of place in my opinion. -
1985 2.1L Diesel Trans and T-Case?
mfpdm replied to neohic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the diesel has the same bellhousing bolt pattern that the 2.5L has, he could use one of the hard to find dakota AX-15's bellhousing that came behind their 4 banger. Forgot what year they were but it's the cheap way to get a AX-15 behind our 2.5L and he could use whatever AX-15 he can get his hands on then. I'm thinking early 90's. :dunno: Or am I out to lunch on this one. :???:  -
Oops, yeah I should have said flexplate. :dunce: Guess I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue.
