there are 27 by my count in the states, currently. but, like '92 eliminators, they are coming out of the woodwork now...so there may be more. They were originally built as "export only"...but as with all AMC options, they could be snuck through the cracks, and so they were offered on a VERY limited basis in the states. if he put a new fuel pump on it, DON'T start it. ask him WHY he put a new fuel pump on it. find out if the timing belt blew. then get a service manual and/or ask me for my number and I can go over how to look it over and set the timing properly with you. if the timing belt blew, there are at least 3 bent valves and a few broken rockers. that seems to be the common count...they are an interference motor. If you pass on it, I'd like to know where it is and how to get it...I have a brand new motor for my diesel, and would then have all the parts that that one would need.

Why not? (Said the guy with the 5-speeds) sorry, I did mean atf + 4. atf + 4 disintegrates all of the brass in the clutch packs. I've not heard GOOD things about dex merc IV, either, though. but then again, I haven't heard bad things...I can still dex merc III, so why would I bother buying IV. you can get III at bumper to bumper.

to her temporary home in one solid piece :D

Dex 4 is NOT an acceptable fluid for an aw4 found in xj and mj

no.

tomorrow morning, I'm going up to beaterjeep's place to fix the electrical issues on the cherokee, and bring his '88 comanche home. the '88 is rust free, has a dent in the driver's side b pillar and front of the bed. it's a longbed, 4 cylinder 5 speed 2wd. the trans is junk, the rear axle has unknown gears due to a swap, and the front brakes are fubar'd. the wiring harness is junk due to some unfortunate wiring done to the heaterbox. I have a '96 cherokee (compliments of Automan) 4 cyl 5 speed 4x4. automan needs the axles back, but the rest is mine. I want to put the rest back in beaterjeep's comanche. and I'd like to remove the dents, replace the front fenders, figure out a roll pan for the rear, swap in either a 4.10 geared 8.25 or 8.8 with disc brakes. unknown if it will remain 2wd or 4wd, that will depend on the condition of the front spindles. then I'd like to paint it, at least with a base pearl white so he can build off of that for his paint scheme. his interior will also be swapped, including racing buckets. would anyone like to have a wrench-athon to at least get it and the '95 stripped, and everything swapped in? I can do all the fine details as time passes. Thanks, Pat

yep.

8" lift is TOO MUCH unless you are going to run fullsize axles and 37's or bigger. and even then, people fit 37's on 6.5" with a bit of trimming and proper bumpstopping.

yep.

Front receiver hitch...good idea?
JeepcoMJ replied to Incommando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
agree with CW. they're AMAZING for moving trailers and such. but they cut into approach angles quite a bit. I'm still working on an idea to get one into my custom front bumper. -
The inside of the cab b pillars were rusted too, and I don't need more peojects so the cheromanche thing is no bueno. As far as the rear section goes...the frame literally went freakjeep and the bed was mostly bondo so that wasn't possible. I saved everything worthwhile$

I saved that skid, and the front skid.

what the HELL is wrong with you? the truck is blue. paint it freaking BLUE. that looks like $#!&....it looks like some illegals got their hands on it. I'm ashamed. -
lol, it actually drove 25 miles to a friend's house before we stripped it. but, with the frame rot and repairs, the crap floors, the front end collision, and the mice etc. in it...not saveable.
-
Let me start off saying this thing was NOT salvageable. the frame freakjeep'd it, although someone did a VERY good job of repairing the frame and giving it a few more years. I didn't save any interior, but the motor lives in geonovast's '88 xj, some small electrical components, transfercase, and exhaust were saved as well as the almost newgas tank that was in it, and the split rear slider and seal. on to the pics

as I said, it is not a vacuum line...it is a vent line.
-
by the booster. it has a white cap in it. it doesn't much matter. leave it alone, it's doing you no harm.
-
wrong area of the engine bay...that's the vacuum operated 4wd indicator. the hose coming from the differential goes up near the brake booster. it is a vent hose.
-
yep, you need a new one now. they're around $75 or $80 NEW from napa or bumper to bumper.
