  1. It also has Ford rear shackles, but those don't add or remove any height. For anyone wondering, it takes 3 washers on each side of the leaf spring to fill the gap that the explorer shackles have due to the Explorer springs being wider.
  2. I'm sure this is somewhere already, but... I couldn't find it in 30 minutes of searching. What is the stock ride height measured from bottom of fender flare to the middle of the hub? I finally got my GS MT 3+2 springs with an extra inch of arch installed (the ones from the group buy) and I forgot to measure before i installed them. My other MJ has too much crap in the bed to get a good measure on rear suspension. But i did compare the front suspension height and my 2wd with 1.75" coil spacer (the one that I installed the MT springs in) is the exact same height as my 4wd MJ stock. Thursday I'm installing my Krustyballer hitch and reinstalling my FEY step bumper. Then i will be throwing over 1000 pounds of concrete blocks in the bed to settle the springs. I also need to get an extended rear brake line, mine is maxed out with these springs.
  3. I've seen brake lines bent and used and that's what I'm about to be doing to replace the aluminum tubing I used initially. As far as unnecessary vacuum lines, it varies for each state. In Alabama our emission laws are not very strict so it was easy to get rid of a lot of unneeded ones.
  4. I'm thankful to live somewhere that doesn't have to deal with that, then.
  5. I say he didn't bleed the clutch MC good enough. I always gravity bleed mine, where you just let the fluid drip from the bleeder valve for about half an hour (watch the fluidlevel in the reservoir though)
  6. Do these and listen to everything this man tells you to do. I would also run without a cat since you've already passed it. Then install one later when funds allow it or it is required to pass again!
  7. By specialist forum I mean the club in general. You're not going to find a better forum to learn about fixing a specific car or even multiple types of cars. This forum has it all. As far as keeping or getting rid of the cat, I personally got rid of mine. But I live in AL where we don't have smog testing and pretty much no one has a working cat. Whether you get rid of yours or not, if it's clogged then it will make your engine have problems. Including no power. Is it illegal in your state for you to not have an operable cat? If it is, then I would go ahead and replace it with a new one to stay within the law. Did your MJ have any problem starting BEFORE your mechanic replaced the crank sensor? What was his reasoning behind replacing it? Also in my opinion you got the best year for an MJ. '90 was the only year that always had the good 5-speed (AX-15) instead of the possibility of the weak one (BA10) and had my favorite version of the Inline-6 (the RENIX instead of an HO or "High-Output").
  8. Welcome to the forums! And theres a whole forum here with XJ/Mj specialists who can easily teach you how to become a specialist. They are VERY simple and extremely fun to work on. 3 years ago I knew nothing about working on cars and thanks to this forum I now do it for extra cash on some weekends and can fix almost anything on an MJ without asking questions. Just from what you said, the clogged cat probably is the reason it died. Same thing happened to one of mine the day i got it. It was a whole new truck after I got ridof it. Did you replace the crank sensor with a MOPAR brand one or the Rotto-zone special? Mopar brand is the only one that reliably works. More than worth the extra cash. And plenty of tests you can do on your old crank sensor to help determine IF you evenneeded a new one. 2 great tips I have learned over my 3 years 1, check all vacuum lines for leaks and get rid of all unnecessary ones or replace hard lines with copper/steel/aluminium tubing. 2, diagnose twice, buy parts once. Once again welcome and enjoy ownjng such a fantastic piece of machinery!!!
  9. Or do like I did and swap to the newer knuckles! Makes brake rotors much easier to find, too! I got a front 2wd axle out of a 98 XJ for 50$. People practically give them away around here because everyone wants 4wd.
  10. 195-75-15 tires? Lord I thought 235's were too small on these trucks...
  11. I've bought 2 NEW boosters (not refurb) and they both hiss in the cabin. Its a bit upsetting. I haven't driven the Jeep with the hissing but with it just idling you can definitely hear it. It worries me for sure.
  12. Thanks guys! Yep I'm pretty proud! I'm hoping to have the ol' Jeep built how I want it by the end of the year thanks to the extra cash flow!
  13. Howdy guys! How's everything been going? I took a while away from CC after life took ahold of me about 10 months ago. But finally, I'm back to roaming the forums with you guys again! So who remembers when I was considering quitting my job at Publix and going to school? I never did thankfully, and it has turned out great for me. About a week after that topic I started about going to school, I got a call from my district manager and was transfered to the highest velocity store in the district. Which was where people got sent before they get promoted. I was a grocery team leader at the time and there was supposed to be 2 Team Leaders due to the volume of the store. About 2 weeks into me being there they decide they only want me as Team Leader and that they're not going to get another one till I leave. The store manager there loved me and everything went smoothly after I got settled in. Fast forward 3 months... This happened! I got promoted on January 31st to our store in Pell City. And while it's a long drive, it's more than worth it. I haven't loved my job this much in a long time. My salary was almost doubled when I got promoted, i have a great schedule, and I've been killing the position and impressing the whole store. On top of the promotion the DM chose me to speak at a 500 people conference about being "young and successful" with Publix. I'm the youngest assistant manager in my district! And lastly he chose me to have a small video interview with Southern Living magazine about why I like Publix. With the extra money I have now. I've bought and had installed a fancy hot water heater for my mom, bought her a new set of tires for her Jeep, and got a VERY nice engagement ring to propose to my girlfriend at the end of the year with. Life has been a blessing and is only getting better! Now on to that Jeep of mine... I've finally started working on it again. I'm almost done with the brakes and swapping in a 12.7 ratio gearbox. Once that is done i have to change the oil and put some fresh gas into her and then I'm going to fire her up! I removed all the AC components other than the compressor because they were getting in my way. And next month i will be getting a set of 265/75/15 (true 31's) Cooper AT3's for it. I'm super excited to be back on the forums! Thanks!
  14. Went and talked to the college today. As well as a couple of HVAC companies and the welding teacher at the college. The college would be way too much for me to spend and the HVAC companies said that their hours are even worse than the managers at Publix. And the welding teacher said that there isn't a very high demand at all for welders around here. Basically both of the trades I was considering would end up being a mistake for me. Next position up at Publix for me is a 45k-55k position which sounds nice considering I just got a call from the district manager saying he was working on getting me into that position soon. I think I know what I'm going to do, though. I'm going to keep working for Publix due to the benefits they give me (stocks, insurance, 401k) and I'm going to change my mindset on how I work. I've got to stop letting myself get so overwhelmed and stressed from things. It's a grocery store. I've had this mentality for the past couple days of work and everything has ran much smoother. With that being said, I am looking into trucking and have been for awhile. It's my backup plan for if things continue to suck with Publix. I do save money like crazy because I want to always have a cushion to fall back on if anything happens. And Hornbrod, I honestly have considered joining the Navy. And I definitely would be in the Navy if it wasn't for my mother needing me around to help with rougher chores and bills. Can't leave her alone though, ya know? Gonna work this until I see the perfect chance to get into trucking, most likely. Or something even better. New things open up each day. Thanks for letting me vent and giving me some more peoples opinions on the subject!
  15. I know it's a great company with great benefits and very good money. But you have to become a salary manager to have a career with them and they expect you to work 60 hours+. My grocery manager currently averages an 80 hour work week with an hour drive home and is soon to be divorced due to never being home. I just don't want to do that and not have a family life or friend life. I'm going up to the trade school when I'm off Monday and seeing what all my options are. As far as calling up Blue Torch Fab I thought about going for welding and then calling him or the guy that owns Motobilt. I'm only 20, so I'm glad I'm making this decision now. And yeah, Hornbrod, I definitely have noticed that my options are limited...
  16. Howdy guys. Been a few months since I got on this forum. In the past few months I've managed to get promoted into management with Publix and just haven't had much time to be on my phone on the internet. But, with that being said, I need some help with a big life decision. Since I got promoted I realize I don't want to do this for the rest of my life. So I'm looking into a trade and I want to know everyones opinion on which trades I should look at. I was thinking HVAC or welding. So throw out some opinions! I'm obviously stressed about such a big decision because I already make a good bit of money and I'm sure I won't start out making what I do. But this career isn't the life I want to live.
  17. still have the jeep? I would hope he still has that Jeep... isn't that the Manche that started this whole forum/club? :D
  18. There was a Maserati at my work earlier. Didn't catch the model, though. I was in my uniform otherwise I would of snapped pictures. Sitting out in my Sentra at the top of the parking lot I saw a teen that couldn't of been older than 18 hop into it.... Crazy what some of these Southside and Rainbow City folks buy their kids to drive. New guy at work (18 years old) drives a 2015 Beamer which is lowered, blacked out, and has a ridiculously built and turboed engine. He told me his parents covered every bit of the cost and they pay the insurance on it. I just don't understand spending so much on new cars.
  19. After this course of rainstorms in Alabama I sense we're going to have a terrible week of musky, humid, wet heat. I'm just glad I finally have a car with AC :D
  20. I'll be checking the TCC after I get myself another ride. Just gotta have a car ASAP.
  21. Well I got the fluid to the right level and drove it... soon as I hit 60 the thing jerked 3 times and the engine reved up with no power to the wheels for a minute then it started jerking again and revved again. Seemed to try to do it with OD off as well. I'm canceling my order for the AC parts and looking at a 97 Sentra tomorrow which is in almost pristine condition since an old lady drove it for most of its life. 1600$ and everything works on it. I'll either diagnose my Contour some more or sell it as is... just hate that I spent so much money on it recently. But the tranny literally showed NO signs of wear. The car drove great up until last week.
  22. Howdy fellas. Been a bit since I've been on here due to a lot of time spent at work and getting my car ready to do long drives for work. I got close to having my car ready until this week when something popped up... Transmission problems, I think. Last week I was driving about 65 when all of a sudden it jumps some like it popped in and out of OD. I didn't think much of it. Then a couple days later it kind of jumps a couple times after I shift into reverse. Didn't think anything of it... until today. I was going down the road, about 65 again. When it start jumping like crazy in and out of OD, I pull over, listen for a second. And then get back on the road and it's seeming to be fine. I checked the fluid and it looks pretty low, think this could be it? I checked the alternator and it's doing its job correctly. Really hoping this isn't the transmission going out. I just got the wheel shimmy fixed and the timing belt replaced and ordered the AC components so I don't have to sweat anymore...
  23. Recently I had the tires on my Contour balanced and rotated due to a bad shimmy at about 65 MPH. I at first had them balanced at Walmart for the same reason as the OP. About 2 hours later I finally get my car back and the shimmy is just as bad, if not worse. So I take it to a local tire shop and have them check it out. Not only did Walmart not add a single weight to one tire, they also neglected to tell me that one of my rims was bent bad (added a bunch of weight on it to try and even it out, I guess?) And that another tire was wore out on the inside and had a massive nail in it. After moving the warped rim to the back, getting a new tire, and having the tire shop balance the tires and align all 4 corners I finally don't get a massage whenever I drive. Never using Walmart for anything involving my vehicles again. They also only half filled my brothers Civic when they changed the oil.
  24. Great... Now I'll NEVER get the chance to have that tag in Bama :D No worries mate - the "RENIX" plate is still available. :rotfl2: I actually like that idea! How much do custom plates cost around here? Never looked into it before :D
