Digging the Bird, Ball, and Hook! OhhRah!

I have been to Australia a few times. I fell in love with some of the cars and trucks over there. The Holdens are sweet machines! JBhill is the only other RHD MJ that I know of. Nice project!

I am pretty sure why he is asking is because I traded him a set of V8 ZJ coils and they actually lowered his truck an inch. I know the coils came out of a V8 ZJ (see the Betty build to see pics of it before I stripped it). I feel terrible about the whole thing. I remember the coils I sent were heavier than stock MJ coils. But, can't remember if they still had the part number tags on them. Anyone out that has any input would be greatly appreciated.

I sense you are under the age of 20 by your comments. The day I turned 18 the first thing I did that morning was walk into the post office and sign up for selective service. The next thing I did was enlist in the Marine Corps. I have been a Marine for almost 20 years now. I agree whole heartedly with this father. I have a 13 year old son. He is a handful right now. That is the nature of the beast with teens and puberty. Kids today have some idea that the are entitled to this or that. I see it every single day. I had to jump a kids @$$ last night for disrespecting one of his NCOs. He felt the senior Marine had to earn his respect. The only thing that out burst got him was a few hours of cleaning the heads and swabbing the decks in the battalion CP. I don't owe anyone a damn thing. I got to where I am with my own hard work. I grew up dirt poor in a small farm town in Pennsylvania. I know what it is to have to work for something and then enjoy the fruits of your labor. I blame parents for their kids. Not the kids themselves.

I made the mistake on thinking OBD-I would be easier to wire. Not so much! There are a ton of wires on a ZJ that do not work on a MJ. What's this? Electric speedo? My truck don't have one of those? Run new wires! It can get tiring real fast. It is easiest to chop away at the whole project in sections. It is not hard to get the motor running. It is a PIA to make it look right.

Lee Anderson is the name of the kit you are looking for. http://www.socaltruck.net under bed protection. Prices start at $399 for a new one, custom made for your truck.

I have always liked the way Labaron hood vents look on a X/MJ. I also like hood pins. With Betty being an 86 getting the hood latch to work is next to impossible because of my radiator choice. So the pins might be a must. Living in the desert cooling her cold become a problem eventually making the vents a necessary add as well. Should I, #1 put them both in #2 run vents only #3 run pins only #4 put vents in but sink the pins into the bottom of the hood through the rad support and pull them by taking the grill off? #5 sink the pins into the bottom of the hood through the rad support and pull them by taking the grill off? I am really leaning towards #1. Thanks for the help!

Wonder who that fool was! :chillin: If I were to do it again, which I will be. I would use a 96 + ZJ and do a 97+ XJ dash. To get the OBD-I wiring and dash talking was a real PIA. Terrawombat has started the 97+ conversion using a 98 5.9 ZJ drive train in his. There is no source for motor mounts. You have to fab your own. You can use stock ZJ frame brackets but you have drop the engine down 2" for the hood to close. Cruise through Terra's and my build threads for more info. There is also a guy on Naxja who did it as well.

There is a write up in the DIY on how to adapt a MJ rear harness to the XJ (HO) dash harness. It is best to use all the HO stuff from under the hood and behind the dash. Very few of the HO plugs will plug into the RENIX era switches. I think the only one I was able to use was the ignition and the wiper control. Also the wiper motor used a different plug and had to be swapped out.

They will be for stock bumper applications. So far with the lack of interest I highly doubt there is enough preorders to have a run done.
-
There is no set time line Brett. It all depends on if we can generate enough interest to even make it worth while for us and the vendor.
-
It's an 86, the tag will be on the radiator support. It is right behind the left headlight and is held on with 2 rivets.
-
Don, yes they will be. From what I understand, Curt was the manufacturer for U-haul.
-
To answer a few questions as best as I can. They should be produced as a universal setup to work on both the long and short boxes. They should also be class III rated hitches. These will be ordered through a buddy of mine who is a manager at U-Haul and a SoCal NAXJA member. He will distribute the hitches from his facility to those who order to keep costs down. If we could get 15+ hitches pre-ordered I am sure the price could drop to $225-$250 or so. I would love to get the price down to about $200. If this don't work as a group buy I will more than likely drop the $400 to have on fabbed up from a local hitch place. I refuse to bolt a rusted/burned hitch on the rear of my truck. I will be towing my Shelby to shows behind the truck and my 70K org mile car is worth the $400 for piece of mind.

They have the pattern to make the hitch. It is a supply and demand thing that killed off production of them. For them to make a run there needs to be the demand for it.

Severe hail damage on roof

Drop the headliner and knock them out. The whole roof is pretty assessable with the headliner out of the way. -

It is a Protofab. I had the same one on my XJ and loved it.- 146 replies

too much bounce...and then sway
shelbyluvv replied to drcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Let's see here, Long arms, 44 front, 36" IROKs, Superlift shocks, no sway bars, and home fabbed steering. Yup, I think that is your problem. Come on now. Do you really expect that truck to drive and ride like a Caddy with those specs? -
I am working with U-Haul to get a hitch produced. I need a count of who would be interested in buying one. The MFG will more than likely be Curt. The cost is roughly $300 for a run of 6 or so. The more that can be built will bring the price down even more. These will be DOT certified and will bolt on just like a stock one would. Now is probably the last chance to get a new un-rusted/modified hitch for your truck. Bo

Donor. It is better to start with a good clean donor than one that has been abused. You will be chasing problems on a beater. My donor for Onyx was $2500. It was worth every penny. The truck is still running like a top and has never had a problem. The new owner could not be happier with it. My piece of mind is worth more than the profit off the XJ.
