Roll bar in Michigan $100. Correct?
shelbyluvv replied to Incommando's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
It's not a factory roll bar. -
behind the seat storage shelves

They used to sell them in JC Withney back a few years. I had that same shelf in my Ranger back in 93. -
Thanks Buck. I'm really humbled. She isn't a beauty queen but I like it. I have to let the Bronson take credit for the paint idea. He started it and I am just improving on it. He had a great idea with the flat paint.

Thanks Ben. I really appreciate it. Your rigs are amazing. I have plans to matte black the body with all gloss black accents. It'll all be spray bomb for easy touch ups after wheeling. Go with the JK Moabs. A lot easier to find and tires are way cheaper for 17" wheels now.

About a month ago my son came by and took the TJ Moabs off my truck and left me with some 33s and 15x10 wheels. I trimmed the front fenders and installed some rear flares on the front to keep them away from the fenders. Try as I may I would still need 6" of bumpstops to be able to turn when the front tire is stuffed. I cut a deal with my ex wife and traded her some really, really nice XK Hulks for her JK Moabs. I set out to make them something special. This was the final design I went with. I still have to sand the bed liner off the rear flare and paint it gloss black. I also need to put the bumper caps back on. I'll get to it this weekend.

Are aluminum driveshafts just noisy?
shelbyluvv replied to Alexia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's possible you have a little play in the transfer chain or the ring and pinion. The shaft will make the "ping" a lot louder. My truck "thangs" pretty loud from reverse to drive. -
Black Betty is my 86 with the Magnum V8 swap. Good to see you are making quick progess on your truck.

Do the upgrade. The difference in stopping power is worth it alone. The hardest part is making the new lines to the distribution block. Easily solved with NAPA metric lines cut off one end, replace one fitting on each line with the stock 45* fittings, flare lines, bend how you want and bolt them on. How have you been Pat? I haven't seen you around here in a while.

Your picture doesn't work. You should post your questions in the tech section with pictures of the rear axle. Your truck should be a Pioneer.

I'm digging the buggy. Very nice tube work!

The tow hooks on my truck have every bracket Eagle has shown. Mine came off a 97 XJ though.

Tail light electrical locations
shelbyluvv replied to daking's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's why the wiring is different. You could have just made an adapter from the MJ rear harness to the XJ dash harness. Then just run a wire from the brake light up to (I think) pin p on the column connector. There is a write up in the DIY section about that. Since you have XJ wiring the top bulbs should be tail/brake and the middle will turn signals. -

Did you swap in a XJ dash harness by chance? -
I'm sure they were painted from the factory. Mine may have been rushed or redone by a previous owner. I personally couldn't leave the rails red like that. They would have been undercoated before it left the body shop. Like I said the truck is beautiful but the red frame just doesn't suit my style.

LUK or Sachs are my clutch of choice -
So now I need a new engine, advice requested
shelbyluvv replied to teamsmith's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did the same thing when I replaced the clutch in my first car. Never knew there was such a thing. Back then you couldn't just buy the plastics ones. They were metal and were $$$$$. I went the junk yard and hack sawed a input shaft off a broke transmission and used that. I still have that "tool" to this day. I don't think I'll ever have another 79 Plymouth Horizon but you never know! -

I don't know about the clutches. I would think the splines would be different between the two. If you don't have a clutch alignment tool you are wasting your time. If your bell housing is removable you can take it off and use the input shaft of the trans to center the disk. For the $10 the tool costs I would just get to right tool and be done with it. -
None of my 4 trucks had painted frames. There was some over spray but that was it. There was little to no paint under the under coating.. I personally don't like the red rails. It looks like the job was rushed. The truck is otherwise beautiful. Just those glaring red frame rails looks tacky to me.
