My newest addiction, 80 CJ5
shelbyluvv replied to shelbyluvv's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
I started laying out the wiring harness tonight. It comes as a generic fit and I was not happy with how it fit. I extended and shortened the wires where they needed to fit right. I then wrapped the loom with friction tape for that factory look. I installed the ECM on top of the heater box with Velcro for easy removal should the need arise. I have the grommet in the firewall temporarily until I decide how I want to run the power and fuel pump wires. I also got my plug wires in finally. -

I got the fuel system plumbed tonight. I only had to remove a 13" section of the stock fuel line. Where I cut the line I put a small flare on it to help keep it from popping off. I got the filter and return line plumbed first. Then I drilled a 1" hole in the rear cross member to let the fuel line pass through it to the pump. And finally got the pump plumbed into the main fuel line to the engine. It was a tight fit but I am happy with the way it turned out. -

I got the fuel filter mounted and the wind kicked up. So I went to the junk yard and starting climbing all over the Chevys looking for a air cleaner. I finally found one laying in the back of a conversion van. It almost looks stock on the TBI. Don everything has a price and there is an seat for every assssss... With that said you may want to make an offer now before I replace the floors and rockers. The price will surely jump after I dump another $1k in bumpers and body panels. I got started on the EFI conversion this weekend. I can't hang new parts on a dirty engine. What's a guy to do but get busy cleaning. I got in there all nice and deep like and totally detailed the engine. Tonight I will get the rear fuel lines, pump and filter installed then lower the tub back onto the frame. -

It isn't that bad first thing in the morning. By 1400 it gets pretty HOT though! I am having a blast on this little CJ5 though. I can't believe I waited this long to buy one. I will have a CJ7 and a CJ8 also. They are just too much fun to work on. -

I go to spend a little time with the CJ this weekend. The first order of business was to remove the cut up fenders and track down another set. I found a rust and dent free set in Yuma Arizona that I will be picking up in a few weeks. The next plan was to un-redneck the fire waiting to happen under the hood. So I washed all the gunk and grease off the engine. Then I decided to remove all the wiring that I won't need when I go to TBI injection next week. -

I am but I could not pass up this deal. $2K for a running driving CJ5? I had to buy it. I always wanted a 5 with a V8 and a 4 speed. My uncle had one when I was a kid and I loved it. -
Since I sold one of the MJs, my quads and a bunch of my hoard I bought myself a toy to go along with the wife's J10. It is a 80 CJ5, 4 speed and 304 V8. I am picking up a TBI setup for it tomorrow. It currently has way to much carb on it and it runs like crap.

You can retro fit lights onto them. All you have to do is get the covers off ebay then epoxy them onto the visor and get creative with the light mounting. I used 80's Charger side marker lights to cut up and epoxy to the inside of the visor. I did this to my old Dodge Ram a few years ago. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/kre-eb405rp/overview/

Cruiser- we are possibly moving back to Georgia to be closer to our kids and families. Eagle- that is a 88 IROC Camaro L98 TPI 350. It has a mild cam, PCM tune, BBK throttle body and bigger injectors.

These are rear flares on the front to open up the fenders a touch for tire clearance. I do have a set of prototype, unfinished rear 97+ fender flares that I may be selling.

Rant: why the dissing on the MJ from MJ owners.
shelbyluvv replied to WyoCherokee's topic in The Pub
Because they are my piles and I will do with them as I like. How does what others do affect your life? I have a brand new 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, I took the huge matte black sticker off the hood and you would have thought I talked bad about people's moms. Like I told them... Until you are making the payment or are my wife, what I do with my stuff is of no concern to you. -
My wife just just struck a deal with a buddy of mine to buy his J10. She fell in love with it when I was redoing his wiring and installing the vintage air system.

Sector shaft support style braces?
shelbyluvv replied to A-man930's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
While they may be the first to build an XJ brace. The design has been around since the mid 90s. There is a VERY similar design used on the solid axle Dodge trucks. I currently have one on my 2008 Dodge and it does make a difference.- 5 replies

They make it ride a lot better. If you runs short arms, even longer than stock, it will ride rough. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
