  1. Measure a 19 gallon rear fuel tank from a 1996(?) and earlier Ford F150 pickup fuel tank. Must be a million of them in junk yards. Very close to the dimensions of the Summit tank. Some include a fuel pump in the tank. Before you mount your tanks there, do some reading about the Ford Pinto fire risk in rear end collisions There is a reason why fuel tanks are now located in the middle of the car. Also, where will you relocate your spare tire? If you do decide to go with the rear mounted tank, think about how you are going to protect the tank. Meaning a solid bumper and a factory type class 2 trailer hitch. As an alternative, think about a stock 18 gallon Comanche fuel tank located on the passenger side .. May be an issue for your rear suspension plans, but it is a viable alternative. There are a number of old discussions here on the Comanche Club about all these problems/issues. Search second fuel tank or aux fuel tank. I have posted this question once or twice in the last 8 or 9 years.
  2. What a great place. Under the Oak tree! Always very sad when we loose our best friend. Our live are better for the friendship they have given us.
  3. What color are the seats? Too bad you are so far away. I still have the very nice set of bucket seats from a 2 door XJ on MJ seat brackets in storage. I find the Grand Cherokee seats much more comfortable.
  4. Yes, but moving the shell from the truck or the floor to the vertical, upright position will be a very real problem for your back.
  5. My SnugTop stored in the garage over the Corvair. I lag screwed 2 lengths of UniStrut to the rafters. Then used straps to lift and hold the SnugTop in place. Now, the Wildernest shell simply sits on a pad in the back yard and Anita complains about it regularly.
  6. Use Google to translate from French to English!
  7. It is back all right. And with pictures of the underside of the body! Noticed only the 18 gallon tank, not 23 gallons. Did not see where the spare tire is located. But I would guess in the stock under bed location. Wonder what the wheelbase is for this? My guess would be at least 24 inches longer than the short wheel base Comanche - 136-144 inches.
  8. Lots of Cherokee parts out there. Nothing damaged looks Comanche specific. So if you want to fix it, go for it.
  9. If that interchange with the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee is correct, you should be able to find it at the Roosevelt U Pull It cheap.
  10. Nothing quite so expensive as a car/truck that "needs a little work". Best to pay for the work somebody else has done. You may want to look at this truck for sale by a long time member here. There is also a full build thread for the last 5 or 6 years. So you have a bunch of honest history. http://comancheclub.com/topic/53011-1990-pioneer-oct-16-cotm-for-sale/ http://comancheclub.com/topic/53012-sorry-guys-I'm-out/
  11. What is with the wing windows if it started life as a 98 Cherokee? Inside front door panels match the 98 Cherokee.
  12. A 2 or 3 passenger truck is not the best thing for a family. Sure the family will enjoy the TJ. Don't be a stranger here! Reasonably sure we will see you back with another Comache before too long. Thanks for all your help/post. REALLLY like the Dakota front seat conversion idea from your build. May wind up stealing the idea for the my TDI conversion Comanche.
  13. Noticed the 97 door panels on the early doors with vent windows? Why go to all the trouble of a 97+ interior swap and not change out the doors? Makes no sense to me. Nice looking Cheromanche on the surface. Nice to see so many pictures also. Have seen pictures of this conversion a few times on the net. But never anything on the underside. Anyone want to ask the seller fro pics of the underside??
  14. What happend to all the picture links in the above link? Would love to see them.
  15. All peaker gas turbine generators, right.
  16. I would want to know more about your truck and how you use it. What is it about your current setup that makes you think a bigger engine would be better? Honest questions that need to be answered. At some point you have to tell us how much money you have ready to spend right now for the "bigger engine". That will ultimately determine what you are able to do. For $10K, there is a place in Washington that will do a turnkey rebuilt Mercedes 3.0 diesel conversion in a Cherokee or Comanche. That engine will run 500K miles with no problems for years.
  17. FWIW department, Back in 2008/9....I had an ignition switch problem with the 91. The old switch was burned at several contacts. The replacement switch has not given me a problem since.
  18. I bought the 86 last night. Its no where close to drivable, it's missing parts too. The title is "less than clean". Here are the parts I need for the 89: Front driveshaft Rear Bumper Brake booster Emergency brake assembly Windshield Window regulators / window wings Shift console / inner shift boot Miscellaneous dash / interior parts Window washer assembly Transfer case linkage Instrument panel switches Fender flares Back window catch Tail lights Sounds like you got 5 MJ specific parts: Fender flares (Rear only) Back window catch Tail lights Rear Bumper Emergency brake assembly. The rest of the stuff can come off any 96 and below Cherokee. I have found all the Comanche specific items you need in junk yards. Yes, it did take time. Also, you may want to look very closely at the 86 window regulators and wing windows. May not be much better than what you have. But, right now you have two trucks that need work, so do what you need to do to get 1 running properly. Keep up the progress posts!
  19. A-Man I will check with Whitbread on the ALH manifold next time I speak with him. Know he charges $100 for the manifold adapter plate and a couple of guys are interested.
  20. We hit a progress stopping issue last Friday. Whitbread dangled the engine/transmission into the Comanche and discovered the Transmission mounting bracket on the truck would not work. Long story short, Strokermjcomanche came to the rescue. So we should be back on track by this weekend. See the story in this link: http://comancheclub.com/topic/52958-ax15-torque-arm-bracket-part-numbersource/ On other news. We took the advice of A-man930 and DirtyComanche. Ordered a GTC1549VZ turbo from Ebay.uk. Final, delivered price for the turbo $275. Extra funds will be spent on other needed parts for the truck. Should see the turbo in about 10 days. Ebay seller had great feedback. Next up date after May 1.
  21. You have not told us what you need to finish the 89. Your 89 is a short bed. 86 is a long bed. 86 is a one of year, lots of differences between 86 and later trucks. Especially electrical differences, I think. So what is the price for the 86? That will help assess the problem. But - if you are thinking about an ethical problem. You know the only ethical thing to do ..... Fix both of them. Who can turn down a Comanche in need of care??
  22. To do a color change "properly" requires a lot of work. And a lot of money! The time to do that is when you are planning a full restoration or rebuild of the truck. Especially when going from Red to a light color such as Tan. Adam is right, just keep it Colorado Red if you do repaint it.
  23. For anyone else with this issue, here are some pictures. First, AX-15 transmission mounting points on the bottom of transmission case: Original AX-5 bracket - note only 3 mount holes and bracket not big enough to fit the AX-15 case holes. EDIT: AX-5 bracket has 4 holes not 3 as I said above. Missed the 4th hole at the bottom because of grease and dark background! Correct AX-15 bracket on top. NV3550 bracket on the bottom.
  24. Replied. I will take the AX15 bracket. That is what we need. Let me know how much to send!
  25. Great! johnj92131@yahoo.com Whitbread has to build a custom downpipe for the TDI engine anyway - everything from the CAT forward. Use imgur.com for pictures!!! Way faster, Way easier than photobucket. Pete suggested it and I loved it.
