  3. Welcome to the Comanche Club. You may want to search the DIY section for past "How to" articles. My suggestion would be to do the head light relay upgrade for better head light performance. Don't have any input on the turn signal up grade - never done it and don't see a reason to do it. But that is just me. Good score on the sliding rear glass! Was it a 3 pane window or a 4 pane window? 3 pane is original. Again, welcome to the club.

  5. Jeep Driver, I understand your point because I have been playing with cars for a long, long time. Like you, I have put way more money in different cars than I ever would/could get back. I am going thru it right now with my engine conversion on the 1986 Diesel Comanche. I will likely have $10K in it by the time I get it home. But I am fine with that because it is one of my toys. My better half looks at a car as simple transportation. So she drives a Toyota Camry. When she wants a new one or a different color, it will cost her about $210 per month to lease or buy a new one. She simply has no interest in cars as a hobby and is unable to understand why it is fun for me. Unfortunately, most Comanche Club members don't understand that good parts cost good money. Basically, they are cheap/broke. And they have way more time than money. Years ago, that was me. It took me a while to understand that. It took me even longer to get to the point I was able to pay for the toys I wanted.
  6. There was a General Springs group buy about a year ago. Buyers seemed happy with the product. Or at least I don't recall any complaints. I have been looking at spring options for my Diesel Comanche TDI conversion. BTW, the truck will also have a Wildernest My inclination is to go with the standard load springs for ride comfort. Rather than the Metric Ton springs for load capacity, I am looking at: 1) AirLift bags. These can be adjusted for heavier loads or lighter loads. Rated capacity 2000 lbs. 2) Air shocks. Also adjustable but with perhaps a rated capacity of 500 per shock. 3) Aeon rubber springs. No air adjustement. Simply adjust by the load in the bed, as the bed moves down to the axle, the rubber springs make contact and start to pick up the load by compressing the rubber springs. Rated Capacity: 3000 lbs. The standard capacity General Springs are about $330 shipped - close to $200 less than the Metric ton springs. Air shocks are the cheapest, with Aeon rubber springs costing just over $200 and AirLift bags at about $240
  7. Here is the VW part number for the exhaust manifold and description from the Cascade German invoice: 1.6L / 1.9L Diesel Exhaust Manifold 068129591G Cost was $90 delivered. They had 2 more NOS after I got mine. Do you know Cascade German/Bora Parts from the TDIClub?

  10. Lurch05, Welcome to the group, first of all. As you have seen we are a varied group. But, I can tell you honestly, with no equivocation, for the most part, we are also a bunch of cheap skate perfectionists. That is not a knock against any of us here. Just a factual statement. It is also true, that this group is incredibly KNOWLEDGEABLE.. So here is my advice and opinion: If the truck seems to be what you want/expect and you have the means to buy it - After doing your own inspection. Well, Just negotiate hard with the seller. Remember - he has had it on the market a long time and no sale. So a good buyer has bargaining power. Set your price - stick to it and best of luck. Remember, you are the guy who needs to be pleased with the truck. Also, life is a learning experience. What makes me happy, may not be what makes you happy. I have spent lots of money on toys and then gotten tired of them and just moved on to new toys for more money. Some may think I have been waste-full or stupid. Me, I just got new toys at Christmas. Guess I am just a kid at heart. But aren't we all? I play with cars and trucks I have no desire or expectation to make a profit. I just do it for fun! . Others, play with them and expect to make a profit. Suspect that is the fact with your seller. When I buy real estate - it is a different story for me: That is business and my goal is to earn money and have a good place to live at the same time. In short, fun is one thing. Earning a living is something else. Bottom line, if you like this truck and it makes you happy to buy it. Don't worry about the rest of us here. We only offer our honest opinions base on our own points or view.

  13. Anyone have a picture of the temperature sensor for the turbo diesel? Trying to find it on old engine. Alterately .Anyone know the turbo diesel temp gauge ( ohms ) and I can use alternative sensor. Thanks.
  14. Should be able to find an app for your cell phone that let's you test acceleration at many different speeds.
  15. As you likely know, a dyno is a tool. Some Dyno is a heartbreaker, others are optimistic. But if you use the same dyno for each test, it will give you good information. Don has used the same dyno for years. So the changes he illustrates are real. I have been playing with VW diesels for 10 years now and only used 2 dynos. For an autocross car or truck, peak power is not what matters. Sort out brakes and suspension first. You will find lots of fun there.
  16. Dzimm,. Just stay away from 505 Racing. Don't think of giving them your money. Their reputation on jeepstrokers is terrible.
  17. I worked at a plant that ran 24 hours a day. We rotated from 3 different shifts every 2 months. 2 months on day, 2 months on swing and 2 months graveyard. You do get used to it.
  18. I am in Marion, Illinois for the day. We had some dark clouds blocking the sun just 7 minutes before the start of totality. But the clouds moved along and we got a good view from just before the start of totality. Did not get as dark as I had expected.

  20. I tried 3 or 4 times to pull good windshields at the pick and pull yards. No matter how careful...I broke every single one of them. Finally learned to pay someone else to do it and got a complete, good windshield the first time! Be smart and just pay somebody for their experience at how to do the job quickly and easily!!!

  22. Regarding VW power steering. I recall a horrible time replacing the power steering pump in my Passat 5 years ago. I have no fondness for that VW power steering pump.
  23. "Think" I asked Matt to delete the erg, but don't remember. Guess I will ask. Know I dumped the catalyst. Wanted to match 86 emission regulations. See the picture of the coke up exhaust port.
  24. About gearing and ride height. Think it best to see how the current set up works on my 2500 mile trip home. Whatever tires/wheels I settle on will be close to stock 225/75x15. Maybe I can find 16 inch wheels
  25. Standard Springs = 3/1 My 91 Comanche has factory BigTon/MetricTon plus 2 overload spring on each side. No bottoming issues at all. But rides like a truck. Actually want to try for a softer ride with the diesel. But, if things work out well, the diesel will replace the 91 Comanche. The TDI engine will produce the torque to replace even a Stroker for towing or anything else. My current issue is how to get a "soft ride" most of the time and still get the load capacity of the metric ton suspension. My current options: 1. Air Shocks. They require some air pressure all the time, so should impact ride?? Also, "only" 500 lbs extra load capacity. 2. AirBags. Prehaps same issues as air Shocks but more load capacity. Rated at 2000 pounds extra load capacity. 3. Areon rubber springs as sold by Timbor? These don't change the rear springs till they are very close to bottoming out, then the rubber springs take up the excess load. As a bonus, their capacity rating is 3000 lbs. Sounds like an interesting opportunity, no?
