New here with a couple ?'s
BLHTAZ replied to rtyler8140's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Welcome to the Club... Your plans sound decent, but I would recommend staying away from cheap kits like that Rocky-Road junk. It does not have anywhere near the stuff you need to do a lift that big. The SOA will give you between 5 & 6.5" of lift in the rear so you are going to need 6" springs to match it in the front to keep it level. You will also need upper & lower control arms...and you really should have a long arm kit for a lift of that height which means that you are getting in to spending $1500 - $2000 to do the lift properly. Unless you are prepared to spend that and do it right, I would say back up and go with the original thought of the 3 - 4" set up where you will only spend $700 - $1000 for a good set-up. I went with the Rubicon Express 3.5" Super Ride kit myself and put some 3" leaf springs in the rear from Hell Creek Suspensions. I added the adjustable upper control arms & adjustable track bar so I have about $1000 - $1200 wrapped up in a good quality kit. There are some good choices HERE too. -
4.0 HO with the renix computer
BLHTAZ replied to JOMJ87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You want to run HO injection using a Renix ECU? Not going to happen... Renix is NOT a computer, it's an ECU. The HO system uses a PCM which is more classified as a computer. Two VERY different systems that are not compatible. -
Welcome to the Club...

If they are 5 speed, they will have 4.10...if auto, then it would be 3.73. ;)

So why is the AMC20 desirable?
BLHTAZ replied to Sir Sam's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The FSJ 20 is the strongest of them all. It comes with one piece shafts and the housing is thicker and stronger than any ofthe other AMC20's thus making it hte most desired of the 20's to chosse from. -
Actually...a lower ratio is what is desired ;) . 3.55 is higher numerically than 3.07, but it is a lower gear ratio.

So why is the AMC20 desirable?
BLHTAZ replied to Sir Sam's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It depends on the AMC20 that you get too. Yes, there are bolt-ins from MJ's that you can get, but there are many other sources for them too. The best one to get would be out of an early 80's Wagoneer (FSJ) as they have the strongest housing to go along with the strong shafts that the 20 has. In most all cases the AMC 20 is stronger than a D44 and just short of, but close to a D60 (if from the FSJ). The wide track CJ's had decent 20 under them too, but need to be converted from the two piece design to a one piece shaft to get the most strength out of them. The FSJ & CJ versions are very similar in length to the MJ, but the FSJ is a 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern and the CJ is a 5 on 5.5 There are plenty of things out there for them now too. I have found disc brake conversion kits, all kinds of lockers, gears etc, etc... There may not be the wide range in some things as there is for the Dana axles, but if you look a bit you will find plenty. -
Personal opinion, but I would not want to look at that all the time. The stock guages look much better. If you could find a way to put autometers in and retain the stock cluster surroundings it make look OK, but I don't see that there would be any benefit to doing all that work...especially to end up with something ugly :dunno: .

Electrical Issues.. trying to troubleshoot
BLHTAZ replied to Qui Gon-Jinn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would say that it is more likely the alternator, but as Pete said, it could be both depending on how long it has been struggling and running more off of the battery. My 2002 Ram just shut off on me at a stop sign the other day. I got a jump start, but it would not stay running unless I kept the RPM's over 1500. Alternator was fine, but the battery was so dead that the truck would not run off of the alternator alone. I think the battery may have had a short internally. I have heard that these trucks will do the same thing with a dead battery...they will not run off of the alternator as a lot of vehicles will. Have both tested to see what you need...hopefully not both. They are probably about the same price each though. -
JP is nothing but a junk rag anyway. I have no use for them... :shake:

I guess my freedom is secure...

You've got that backwards. The early one's were the lower splined one's.. Plus they were never offered in 27, it's 23 and 21. So I'm assuming the "7" was meant to be a "1". So...if the 7 were a 1, then he doesn't have it backwards... ;) Who's on first...what's on second...I don't know's on third... :rotf:
-
If the gears are in hand...just count the teeth on each gear then divide the ring count by the pinion count for your ratio... Pete eluded to this previously, but didn't seem to finish the thought unless I missed it by reading to fast ;) . That obviously won't confirm exactly what they came out of, but it's a sure fire way to know the ratio for sure.

I guess the Cards understand that...and showed it last Sunday.

That's too bad. You had the only 4WD tank top I could find. I wore it all the time when I lived in TX. I rarely get to wear it anymore except on vacation somewhere warm. Willy We thought that one was a great design too, but we got a lot of people saying that they weren't sure about having a shirt that said to "Shoot" someone on it... :shake: . The folks that liked it...loved it, but even in t-shirt form, it did not do great. We greatly appreciate your support though

Find a D30 out of the XJ / TJ models already mentioned that has a 4 cyl - 5 speed manual.

Here ya go... Bushwacker Flares are here

:hmm: Anyone else getting worried because we have not heard from him in over 16 hours now...?? :dunno: ;)
-
Oh sure welcome him with a beer and a "CJ", but cause I have an XJ I get it all day. I see how it is  But... The longer you keep driving that XJ(the way you drive) Its going to turn into an MJ in time... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Hey I just got a new hatch for it today. So looks better now. When it warms back up I think It will thou.. :shake: :rotfl2: I seem to remember that your windshield appears to be from a CJ / Wrangler on that XJ so you are trying to cover all angles I guess  :rotf:

Sorry to see it man. Just another reason that I am glad I don't live in that stuff anymore. Good thing is...it's fixable without a whole lot of expense.
