more likely than not, they're trusting the features of their truck more than driving skill and taking things too fast...

Possible bad TPS again?
dfreeman616 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
erratic shifting is the primary issue, but that can also be caused by other issues. do you know how to test it with an analog ohm meter? -
Hat order has been placed! Officially this time! :-)
dfreeman616 replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
so is it too late to order a hat? i just can't say no, even tho my wallet would probably thank me... -
yes i do remember that cw. it certainly could have been worse, nothing like what a good friend of mine had happen to him (german guy working for a us company ran a flashing red light, totaled my friends saturn and broke his hand pretty bad. still remains to be seen how that will affect his future/career since he's a musician. his now fiancee was in the car too, and if my friend had swerved she may not be here today). my rant isn't about the car really, it's about the bad driver. insurance covers the med bill and lost wages, and michigan mini-tort law covers the damages to the truck. hey, might be a good excuse to weld up a steel bumper :brows:

so last night around 6:45, my wife was driving the cherokee on a fairly busy road. she slowed to around 5-10 mph due to slowed/stopped traffic in front of her, only to be smashed into from the rear by a late model cavalier driven by a girl who was probably 16 or 17, in a car she had just gotten. what's more, she had 2 kids in car seats in the back and another girl in the front seat who looked a little older, according to my wife. i wasn't there and didn't see any of them. my wife didn't feel bad at first, but today i got out of work to take her to the hospital because she's having back pain and numbness in her arms. doc says strained muscles, gave her some meds, and a few days off work. other wise, she'll be fine. the girls in the other car, from what i know, were sore and had swollen faces from their air bags going off...so they must have still been going 25 mph +. smashed up the front of their car pretty good, windshield cracked from the bags hitting. our cherokee came out pretty good, the class I hitch took most of the damage, bent down and barely hit the gas skid. both bumper mounts are shot, but the bumper may be salvageable. no pics at the moment, but i may get some later. then when the other driver's dad showed up, he was pitching a fit and lying to the officers, who basically told him to shut up. end  .

got a link?

i hate that $#!&. it makes a mess when you dismount the tire no matter what you do. if you do ever use it in a car, make sure the guy replacing tires knows it's in there before giving over the wheels.

why do you think it's the axle shaft, which side is it, and is it a vac disco or not?

so i was out looking for a tailgate today, since the one my truck came with has no metal along the entire bottom side and is split for right lower corner to right upper corner, doesn't close or even stay on the pivots anymore. found one in the area about 30 minutes away from talking on the phone. guy there said it's a 4 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being trashed beyond use. so sounds worth the drive given where i live in the salt belt. get out there and find a dented up SWB with some rust, 2wd which supposedly ran and drove til he set it on top of another car, 4.0L renix with 5-speed. looked at the tailgate, it has some rust on the bottom but still looks like i could fix it. a couple dents along the top, including at the handle. try opening it, no luck. great. waste of my day. but i figure, hey, might as well see if it has anything else of use. hood could be useful, but otherwise every other panel is trashed. tail lights both broken. but it had a cargo light, and bucket seats! so i'm thinking of what to offer for those, and take a gander underneath....and see something like this... yup, factory MJ 44!!! so i offered him scrap value plus $20 for the entire truck, and i'll go pick it up once he moves the other cars out of the way. seems like a pretty good deal to me! i'll be posting some things up for sale as i get the chance, so keep an eye out. i'm not sure yet if i'll keep the 44 or sell, i'll keep cargo light and bucket brackets, though. already have some nicer seats from an xj to go on them.

So what does the Mrs. Think of ur MJ, and MJ addiction?
dfreeman616 replied to sinnaevd's topic in The Pub
first xj i had, my wife hated but tolerated. the mj she didn't like at first (just look at my pic <---- :D but she likes how it drives, except in snow being a 2wd. she likes the xj we have now, too. for our anniversary, she surprised me by borrowing a friend's zj and going to silver lake sand dunes for fun in the sand. she likes wheelin', especially when she's driving -
compression readings and oil loss...
dfreeman616 replied to dfreeman616's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it says 179,xxx miles. however, not really sure since i just got it a couple months ago. it's possible i have the numbers reversed, but only if my haynes manual has them reversed. i have cylinder one as the front by the radiator. i suppose i should say it's an 88 4.0l engine, just to eliminate any assumptions -
compression readings and oil loss...
dfreeman616 posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
over christmas, took the cherokee to illinoise to visit family. it's been losing oil but running fine. well in the last 130 miles it lost around 2 quarts of oil, mostly through the intake. did a compression test on it today, came up with the following (all numbers psi, spec is 120-150): cylinder......dry..........wet 1................57...........67 2................79...........96 3................90...........100 4................90...........105 5................87...........94 6................87...........91 also, warm oil pressure is about 15-20psi low at 1600-2000rpm  looks like time for some engine work. i'm just surprised to find those numbers, still pulls 20mpg on the freeway. so, anyone want to analyze that info for me? edit: it's a 4.0l, 1988. -

if you're ordering them on my birthday now, does that mean i get one free? :D j/k. i've still got to see if i can afford a hat or not. -
depends partly on where it is

so far, an ingersol rand 2135Ti 1/2" impact wrench, a kershaw seath knife, some slippers and a few stocking stuffer-type things from my wife. we haven't exchanged our main gifts to each other yet, and we're going to my parents tonight. we just got back from visiting the in-laws in illinois last night. edit: also got a dremel, a few craftsman hand tools :wrench: , a pair of rudy project sunglasses 8) , $50 sears gift card (more tools), and $25. b-day is only 6 days away, too .

yea media is pretty much useless.

nice rack...  :D

two basic possibilities: the t-case is always in 4wd and thus the light should be on, but that doesn't sound like the case. otherwise, sounds like you have a short in the ground side of the circuit, since correct me if i'm wrong but the light is controlled by completing the ground through the t-case. start tracing wires for a short with a multi-meter.

depends on what year mj for one thing. do you have a truck you want to do this to? if so, what year and drivetrain? if you're looking for a comanche to drop an 05 4.0 into, you could get a 91 or 92 mj and drop the engine directly in, you just might need to use the MJ's harness/intake/exhaust.

One day we may learn something- "The Story of Stuff&quo

one stat in there that was interesting. in the past 30 years, we've used up about 1/3 of the earths resources. if that continues, we won't have anything in another 60 years, which some of us may live to see (i'd be in my 80's). but then, it seems that we're always using things at a quicker rate, so 60 years is probably on the long side, without changing anything. one of the nice things about my apartment complex is they have a recycling point in the parking lot. -

try checking if it has a recall on it for the o2 sensor, i just got mine replaced in my 88 cherokee recall #561. not sure if her's is covered, but might be worth checking. you can do it on the chrysler site just be sure to use the full vin in the comment section. -

sustainability + recycle/reuse/renew instead of counsume/replace = 8) i haven't watched all of it yet, but i will later. i think part of the problem is laziness. it's easier to just replace than take care of things, or so it seems. but then, in the long run it takes more effort if for no other reason than having to make more money to buy new things. -
i wish i would have used the video function on my phone, but i never do casue it's too short of a record time... the tech finally got it shut down by spraying down the intake with a fire exstinguisher. don't think i've seen him move that fast before!

i work at a ford dealership, and since we have a body shop we regularly get cars that have been in accidents to see if they're worth repairing. the turbo also failed, which caused more oil to get into the intake...so between the 24k in body work (only good panels are the hood, LF fender, and tailgate) and the engine damage, don't think this one's gonna be on the road again.
