  1. i did that to the gauge cluster in my xj, too. i liked it, but i'm too lazy to do it to the mj right now.
  2. no, those prices are for mj's. only problem is, that's for a short box. i emailed them, they say there's only one wheelbase length  so i'm not sure if they'd work on a long bed or how well they fit. my guess is they would work, just be 6" short of the rear wheel wells for a long bed
  3. since we're on the subject of spinning loose, i once spun across 3 lanes of rush hour traffic and into the median of a freeway due to a slick spot...did over 360 on it. that was in my xj i just sold. the roads were bearly wet at all, not sure how it happend really, or how i didn't hit anybody.
  4. http://rocky-road.com/xjrockrail.html these? rock rails $289 supersilders $349. i haven't heard anything bad about their products. i know the link says xj, but they have em for mj's too. only problem is they're designed for the short box trucks and i don't see anything about a long box...
  5. if i had a welder and another driving vehicle besides my comanche, i'd do something like this in an instant. i already have the cherokee body i'd need.
  6. this one had originally been a comanche, the bed is bobbed.
  7. i don't remember it needing more work, and the door does seem a bit unfinished, but still not bad. give a good idea of some proportions at least. it would be hard to make the bed any longer in front and keep full rear doors. could always chop and make them shorter, but then, there's already not much room for legs in the back of an xj, and i can't imagine there's much more room in that truck.

    oh i wish...

  9. can't find quite what i was looking for, but here's another one i found
  10. Ever seen a Ranger parked next to a Mazda? the differance is tho, the mazda is a ranger with diff skin... working at a ford dealer in the service department, i've been most impressed with the 7.3's. the 6.0 is fairly decent, aside from some issues with the turbos, egr coolers, and oil coolers. most trucks with that engine are still under warranty, too. i know of one 2000 f350 with the 7.3 that makes daily trims from indy to chicago and back, weekly oil changes, going on 1.5 million miles. at just under 1.2 million miles, a sales guy looked at the odometer and said it looks good for just under 200,000 miles... despite working here, i'm not even a ford guy. i'm a whatever works guy. can't really go wrong with a cummins, but dodge transmissions are iffy... as for comfort, ever been in a king ranch f-series seat? they're niiiiice.
  11. there was a long bed chopped in the front with a cap dropped in like i was talking about on ebay a few months back. i've seen pictures of all sorts of combos, and that's still the one i like the most. it was red, and it had a lift and larger tires. i have pics on my home computer, i'll throw em up later.
  12. seen it before in pics, wouldn't mind getting close to see how they did it...but i agree that it's too long. i'm kicking around doing something like that with my long bed and the parts xj i have, except chopping some of the bed off the front. i'd still have a bit of bed that would probably suit me fine, but i'd also get 3 more seats, which will probably come in handy in a few years...
  13. i've got a 93 nissan altima i need to move from rockford on belding road right next to pando to comstock park. distance is 13.3 miles according to google. tuesday, thursday, or friday nights at about 5:30 or saturday before 1pm would work best, might be able to do it other times if nothing else works. i might have a truck i can use to tow, so i at least need a trailer with all tie downs and a puller of some kind to get it on the trailer, the motor is dead due to the previous owner losing a timing chain. a dolly would be plenty for this application. i will pay for gas money, plus a little. if nothing else, i may just go rent a dolly from a local rent-all for 40 bucks, but i'd rather not. needs to be moved by July 28th at 1pm. i can be reached at 616.446.2605 anytime, leave a message if i can't pick it up. -dave
  14. how about some links to them? rumor has it they're yours...
  15. the other question is, how attached are you to your sheet metal? with the proper sawzall application, you wouldn't really need to change much out back, but i would recommend about 3 to 4 inches in the front depending on what kind of chopping you do and what kind of backspacing you have on your rims.
  16. unless it's 10 bucks or less to my doorstop, it's more than i can do right now. my wife and i are going on vacation in two weeks up to canada's algonquin provincial park, so we've pretty much exhausted our expendable money for now...but thanks for the info.
  17. well i picked up that bed from brent ($500 mj)...not much to look at, but it's a lot better than what i have, and i can take my time to prep it before swaping the bed over  still have a rotted out tailgate, but i got an extra exhaust pipe, trailer hitch, and rear speakers with brackets while i was there.
  18. when old jeep said the right rear drive shaft, he was talking about using the proper length and the proper slip yoke.
  19. not sure how i like the two tone, never been a big fan...but it's better than the old paint job  but then, i don't really have room to comment on looks right now :D
  20. thats also why i don't want to throw em in speaker boxes, i'd rather have them protected behind the trim panel
  21. my problem is, since it didn't come with rear speakers fromt he factory, that there's no bracket there...i'll probably just fab up a simple bracket, but i'm just curious if anyone has some specific pointer on the subject...or a spare set of rear speaker brackets i could throw in for really cheap front speakers are 5.25 stock.
  22. now that we're so far :offtopic: ... the problem was my pic was too big, it would seem, not that it's too small. i already adjusted it. besides, it's 'unique' enough that anyone could recognize it from half a mile away, and i don't want to infect anyone else with the bed's cancer :D
  23. haven't had a problem with size on my home computer, does at work though. i'll take care of it when i get a chance.
  24. as it sits right now, i've got a pioneer cd player and 5.25's in the front doors, but i have some really nice pioneer 6x9's that were in my old car, so that's why i'm looking to do that. as far as better sound...it had an aftermarket audiovox tape player...
