  1. Definitely a great aspect to the 8.25. Gotta make sure those gears are setup right if you’re planning on pulling a trailer.
  2. … and humidity. Had a 2022 JL Willys for a couple days too. We stayed in Kona but wanted to see the east side of the big island also. I was very impressed with how comfortable these are. Decent mileage for what it is too. I can say with confidence that my ‘75 CJ has never scraped 29 mpg in its entire life!
  3. Just back to the mainland as of an hour ago. Wife and I were out there for the past week. Very good and much needed vacation.
  4. Akaka Falls in Hilo, HI.
  5. Sold for $15k. Hopefully that’ll calm down the used market for somewhat low mileage trucks in similar condition. Well bought, I think.
  6. Has anyone else kept an eye on this all week also? I haven’t closed the window since the auction started and it’s getting down to the end. Just got to $7k… long way from where I think it should be.
  7. More lights added over the weekend. Haven’t turned them on in the dark yet. I’ll admit that they look a bit small but they’re 16” round anyhow. I’m not expecting them to light up the whole neighborhood. These are more so here because I really wanted gooseneck lights outside.
  8. Seems to be the reason I’ve passed on it before. Good to see it available again. This is the only known remaining SCCA Comanche that’s not in a private collection.
  9. Hmm… this is opportunity #3 to have a shot at this truck for me.
  10. I’m getting overwhelmed with needing to clean up to keep moving forward. Quick cabinet hardware project today to easily start using them as storage. Two worn out leather belts and some brass machine screws later and my cabinets are actually functional.
  11. YES!!!! Photo dump!!
  12. Going through some parts from my stash today and had a nice time remembering some past visits with some '80s go-fast guys. Most of this stuff is NOS, but not all.
  13. The CJ is having a REAL tough time with the hills these days. Selling the trailer will help fund that problem.
  14. Nothing like a four year update. It’s still for sale! In the mean time of getting serious about selling, it was time to dig it out of storage and take it home to get it cleaned up and ready for the next owner. … and then an hour drive behind?!?!… not a Comanche. The little trailer towed great! I took it easy as it hasn’t been on the road for a while and the tires on it are pretty old too. The things that I’d like to do before trying to sell it locally is to add a leaf to the spring packs, give it a good scrub, and clean out all the parts that have been stowed in it for five and a half years now. … also fix the badge that I lost half the P on the road today.
  15. I really like the ‘84-‘86 noses. There’s a few anomalies that don’t exist in the later RENIX units and the few I’ve had just seemed a bit thicker and better molded.
  16. STILL WAITING ON THE UTILITY COMPANY!!! My main line is for sure too small but the engineer (that came out to look at things two months ago ) says that the transformer that’s shared between me and one other neighbor should be fine. While things are down will be my opportunity to swap out the existing main panel with the new 200 amp unit. While I’d rather use a more common Square D panel, I figure that I’ll be reusing the majority of the breakers and only buying one new 100 amp… and those are expensive regardless with who manufactured it. As for things at the shop end, I’m as far as I can get with everything electrical related minus two exterior lights and a heater. Yup… I’m using a giant, meter spinning hair dryer for heat. Hear me out! My reasoning behind it is the ease of use. Sure, I could use the wood stove that just happens to be living under my carport, but then I’ll always have it on the floor along with needing to keep wood inside and dry which also takes up space. Then I thought about hanging a propane unit but then you know EXACTLY when I’ll be running out of fuel and it’ll be a real trick to get a vehicle down and up my hill. What about running a gas line down to it? I’ve got zero interest in trenching all the way down a hard packed hillside again. So what’s left?… electric. I’ve got tons of insulation though and I’ve priced out a good estimate on what it’ll cost per day to keep things warm. As for the panel and remaining conduit… … the hanging pigtail will go to the heater. So nice to work down there with decent lighting! Speaking of which… … I think they’ll look stunning to finally wrap up the exterior of my little shop.
  17. I did a little research on it when I first got it and the history on these things is very interesting. A friend of mine was getting ready to sell his property and offered it to me for nothing. Not totally sure where it’ll end up but I’ve got hopes to put it in a small cabin eventually.
  18. It’s a D14 and it was given to me by a guy who was using it as a fence post.
  19. I parked next to a big tree today! While I could’ve spent a beautiful day working on something I decided to instead go toodling around in the CJ. Not quite time to take the top off again as there’s snow in the forecast, but I’m definitely getting itchy to do so.
  20. Can confirm.
  21. New project weekend! I mean… why would I continue on current projects when I’ve got so many more to start? This time it’s table related. Ever since my wife started working from home and going up and down a ladder to her office loft there has been a real elephant in the room. More specific, the dinner table has been that elephant. It’s just too big! The walking space between the cabinet and the table has always been fine right up until there’s sometimes a ladder in the way. During her work day she’s either squeezing around the table and the ladder or going under it. We looked at smaller tables but I’m a sucker for making more work for myself. Why not cut up what was an expensive solid birch table? The table used to expand in the middle so you could drop in a leaf. I cut the leaf up to use as an extension to one half of the table. Then, using the expanding mechanism as just mounts for the legs, I used the other half of the table as a drop leaf. Now the footprint is 30”x36” and folds out into the same 48”x36” that it was without the leaf. Did I ever use the leaf?… sure, a few times over the past ten years. In its new form we can comfortably seat four people around it when we need to. Otherwise there’s TONS more space. Maybe trim next?… maybe.
