  1. That's the first place I looked (freeze plugs) after I checked the hoses but on the last pic you can see the water residue over the freeze plug....had a buddy with similar problems...I checked the temp sensor on the back of the head and no leaks...
  2. So the intake manifold bolt could be the culprit of the leak?
  3. What's up fellas.... I have an idea of what it can be but with expert eyes I can determine it faster.... It's an 88 2.5 5 speed 4x4 I haven't started the truck in over a week and I went to start it up this morning and it's gushing coolant all over the floor... But it's coming from the back of the engine...I looked at all the hoses and no hoses are leaking. So I get under the truck to see that it's coming either from the top or bottom of the head. So I'm thinking either head gasket but it's not over heating. So I look closer and took some pics but I couldn't get an exact on what the problem is but did notice I'm missing an exhaust manifold bolt. I look closer and one of the other lower intake bolts were loose...I tightened it up thinking I can get by and no it's still gushing fluid. Could it be a head gasket? Or since the intake manifold runs coolant through it and since its loose it's leaking food through there...? Let me know what you guys think? In this pic you can see the washer not completely seating on the manifold and if you look closely there some coolant running down from it...

  5. Nice! I'm hoping to get a long bed for the next truck I get...if I didn't already have an amc 20.... I'd be picking up an 8.8.... I read somewhere that if you have a deep enough offset rim you don't need spacers for the rear...
  6. Sweet!
  7. I have one...got mine from the Jy for about $20... Iirc quadratech sells omix-Ada brand for $150...
  8. Sorry I assumed 4cyl since it was a ax5...disregard my message... Edit: Wait doesn't the ax5 fit your motor?
  9. In order to swap the ax15 over to your 4cyl... You would need a bell housing from a 96-98/99 dodge Dakota with the 2.5L which came with an ax15 from factory... You would need a good amount of parts to make that swap... Do you have everything that came with the ax15? Clutch fork, clutch fork clip?
  10. To just do a 4wd swap that ax15/np231 in your xj can be swapped into 4cyl... I've done it...but you would have to regear your front axle to match your Comanche rear axle gear ratio.... By that time you have to make a decision wether you want taller gears to get some power back into that 4cyl and a better rear axle to swap in....
  11. I'm glad that shift knob got to good use... Truck is looking good!
  12. lol yeah...that's why when I did my swap I waited and waited until i found a Dakota with the amc 2.5 engine with the 5 speed in it... The funny thing is I wasn't even looking for it and I happened to pass by one and noticed it was a Dakota with the 2.5.... It's crazy that it only came through 96-98/99 years
  13. So what are you trying to do exactly? Swap the complete 95 engine trans transfer case into the mj? The 4.0 axles have 3.07 gears as the 2.5 has 4.10s....
  14. External slave http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/712563--jeep-ax15-adapter-plate-kit-to-the-jeep-ax5-bell-housing-w-extslave-cylinder-replacing-ax5/ Internal slave http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/712564--jeep-ax15-adapter-plate-kit-to-the-jeep-ax5-bell-housing-w-internal-slave-cylinder-replacing-ax5/

  16. Not familiar with using the older clutch master... I just swapped everything... Advance adaptors should have a set up like what you want...
  17. I don't think a Dakota ever used an ax5...I know they used the nv1550 also... Advance adapters makes an adaptor but it's $$$ And the years for the 2.5 Dakotas only came with ax15s Just the other week I saw 4 Dakotas with stripped engines and the ax15s with the 2.5 bell housing just sitting there...
  18. It's cool...I had to do a lot of research even for my ax15 swap and help of others to get it done... So if it comes with the bell housing and has the clutch fork, pin, I should be able to buy a clutch kit for that year to acquire the rest of the parts. And my master is new I still need to change it? Also if I need it faster can I mount my bell housing and keep it internal. I know external is easier and I have a work truck but I wanna try to swap it over a weekend (2days)Yeah just make sure You swap your internal bell housing and the bearing as the pic I posted in an earlier post and everything should be smooth as silk...
  19. All ax5s have 21 spline And this thread determines that the input shafts from the internal and external slave trans the ax5s are the same size... http://www.wranglerforum.com/f218/95-93-95-slave-swap-938081.html Edit:well sort of but I haven't read any differences in other threads doing the swap.. Other thread... http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?442018-AX5-compatibility
  20. External slave has nothing to do with the tcase... The tcase would just bolt up to your new transmission... To convert to external slave there's a series of parts to accumulate in order to do the swap.... If your new transmission has the bell housing...it will be external slave and will come with the external bearing... Hopefully it will still have the clutch fork, clutch fork pin... You will need a clutch kit for that year...(which will include clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and throw out bearing , alignment tool) Then you'll need the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder...they sell it as a set to save hassle in the long run...
  21. Vacuum disco lines are in transfer case.... If you do pick up the ax5 from the 2000 bare... To convert to internal slave don't forget to swap your bearing.... Here's the difference.... Left is external right is internal But if your convert external you'd save yourself a headache in the long run...most common failures on a manual jeep are the slave cylinders... The external slave is just swap and go...'the internal one you'd have to pull the whole transmission down to swap it... Your tcase will fit the 2000 ax5
  22. Painless has a switch similar to the link above... I was thinking about doing the same because everyday someone is passing by my Comanche/Cherokee and just stands there and look... Who knows what goes on in their minds....
  23. What's a base tranny? 4cyl 5speed? Or 6cyl 5 speed?
  24. If you have to pump the clutch to get to switch gears...it's either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder failing... Make sure you don't have fluid running on the back of your fire wall by the fuse box... This happened to me and I had to replace it....both clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder....(which I changed the clutch anyway because the work involved to change the slave you might as well change out the rest as well)
