hey luke87, i use to have one, it was a 86, 2.5l 2wd and it had an auto tranny. if yours is an auto then the ratio is 3.55, and yes it is a dana 35 non c-clip. you should see a flange on the outside by the wheels with 4 bolts, that is what holds the axle halves in place, unbolt the flange and the axles will slide out. hope this helps.

Step on brakes, idle rises..

i had the same problem, it was the booster, the diaphram inside it had split causing an air leak when i steped on the brake pedel, replaced the booster and it was fixed. you might also want to replace the vacum hose also, if it is like mine and has weather cracks it needs replced, hose is cheap compared to not having brakes and rearending someone because the hose gave out. -
yea i have a spare one, it has a few minor surface rust spots but they can be hit with a wire brush and paint on a rust preventer and it'll be good as new. how does $50 sound, you can have the sending unit also but you'll need a 4.0 pump as this one has a 2.5 pump and i think it's not powerful enough to make the pressure the 4.0 needs. i'll be around the rest of the week during the afternoons and evenings, across from the turkey run golf course. mike.

i measured the tank i have and it's 35" long, 15" wide, 13" tall. i'm sure this is a factory one and hasn't been replaced with an aftermarket one. the 87 i have has the same size tank on it also.
-
egg, i measured the one i have and from the outside lip down & around the small bend and to the other lip where the small fuel line connects measures around 8", so this one is probably too short also. it came out of a large tank 20 something gallon, i don't know for sure the size, but i'm sure it's the larger one that jeep made for em. maybe the tank you have is some special order one that is deeper then a stock one????

egghead, i have one from an 86 it had a 2.5l so i think the pump won't make enough pressure for a 4.0l to run but the rest is probably the same. if you can take some measurements to see how long the pipe needs to be i'll check the one i have and see if it's the same. if it is make me an offer. Image Not Found i'll be around most of the next week so if it's what your needing stop on by. mike.

thanks guys, this is the first paint job i've ever done myself. -

i had an 80 cj5 almost like in mj20's pic. i replace the white soft top with a black fast back style and some bigger tires. ran the crap out of her until all the body mounts rusted through and the body shifted a little going around a corner one day  ended up selling it and bought a garage package and built myself a garage to store my other toys :D
-
i say if you like and want it then buy it, and who cares what everyone else thinks. thats what i do, of course sometimes it bites me in the a** when i get a piece of junk thinking i can fix it easy and it turns out to be a lot more work. lets see some pics if you do get it :D

we used to have a 75 gallon freshwater tank, but we make a big mistake when we had a noobie at the pet store tell us they had a snakehead that was on sale, well we didn't know anything about those so we bought it cause it looked cool and was cheap. well we brought it home put it in the tank after acclamting it to the water, and the dam thing took off after every other fish we had in there and ate every dam one  , so we started getting feeder fish for it and it grew to around 2 feet or so and we decided that was enough, and traded it for a big orange & black oscar which was a little more calmer :D

i started out in a chevy luv 2wd, can't remeber the year. dad pulled it around back in the yard and told me what to do and i took off without no problems, he couldn't believe it. we drove around for a while after that and he said i won't have any problems and went inside and left me to play with it the rest of the day. :D . however a few years later we almost learned the hard way to not forget to put the e-brake on when sitting on a boat ramp to launch a boat.

if your getting one from a junkyard before you beat it out you need to put on a nut to help keep the threads from getting damaged, otherwise you'll be in the same place with that one. :headpop:

well make that 4 of us that have the black interior, i even have the black & white bench seat just like in these pics.

hey are those tweeters mounted in the little square area just in front of the door handles? it's kinda hard to tell cause the pic is a little fuzzy. that gives me an idea on where to put some whenever i get some extra $.

charred black :D thats nothing compared to my dads old farm truck. i talked dad into changing it last week and it was like mollassas draining out  and thats after the engine was ran to warm it up cause of the cold weather. after about an hour of draining most was out, poured in some new and ran that then drained again. then filled her up with some more new with a filter and it starts and runs like new. i don't think the p.o. ever changed it, he just added more when it needed some.

if only i had more money then i knew what to do with it.

since it's a resistor it cuts down on the voltage going to the pump which makes it run slower, thats why it's quiet. jump the resistor and the pump will get full volts and run at max rpm thats why it's louder. i bet the pump will wear out faster though running at max, but i'm sure it'll be ok to do that for a short period of time, like for example to make it back home.

there is a cable thing that has wire spiraled around it making a track that the worm gear rides on, the wire is broke and when the spot gets to the gear the handle keeps turning but the window stops. you'll have to replace it, can't fix it i tried to fix mine but no luck. it's not hard to replace, drill out the rivets holding it in place, hold up the window somehow to keep it from falling down, then wiggle it out the speaker hole. put the good one in the same way, i used small bolts to reattach as i didn't have any rivets that large and it works like new again.

what kind of trans, auto or manual? if auto i bet the pump is worn out and when it gets hot it gets weak and lowers the pressure, but i'm not sure on that. i know if an auto has less fluid in it than full it'll cause problems, and if the fluid isn't clean it'll cause problems. i had a dakota with an auto tranny and that was the problem with that thing when i bought it, dirty fluid and it was way low. changed the fluid and filter and it ran almost like a new one, but the damage was already done and it eventually got rebuilt.

pretty confused about my gear ratio
mike replied to comancheman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you want to know for sure, take the cover off and look on the ring gear, it'll have the ratio stamped on it. :D -
if i was going to do that i'd find some pics of zebras and make some stencils myself, just copy the pattern on the zebra and give it a try on something other then the truck first and see how it looks. :D
-
yea, you don't check engine oil with it running  , you check auto tranny fluid with it running but not the engine oil. you will not get an acutate reading on the dipstick and you might put way too much in or not enough.
