That tire size change is inconsequential and will work just fine. You are only expanding the size a quarter inch in any direction. Whether the 2.8 can turn them is another matter.... :crossfingers:  it should turn em it a 2.5 can, Redwolf It'll turn em, but not well. Just because the 2.8 makes 160hp on paper, does not mean it does in real life. And as far as your transmission goes, a magnet will work, yes, but unless it was stored inside and climate controlled it will be rusted like in the picture, and that tells you its a steel divider and not aluminum, because aluminum does not rust.

Pressed in my lower ball joints, and theyre both slightly crooked at the top? The bottoms are snug and even all the way around, but not the top. Not sure if its right since both are like that, but, pictures. This is the top of the joint The bottoms, on the back side. Opinions?

How Do I Air Bag My New Mj Comanche ?
mpace6a replied to Burntoast914's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Basically, what it seems like everyone is saying to me, if you really want a slammed truck, go buy an s10 or a ranger. Early models are plenty boxy looking, and would be alot cheaper than trying to slam an mj. Nothing is going to be a direct bolt up to drop it, its going to require alot of fab work and alot of fab work usually translates to alot of $$ -
Welcome back! Speaking from experience, don't settle for a 2.8 truck unless your prepared to swap an engine in, deal with carb issues, vacuum issues, and an over all lack of power and efficiency. I know cuz i bought one....

Doesnt matter....you can backwards search the picture. Actually its possible to do with any picture, just search the actual picture and usually find out anything you want to know about the content of the picture. Also, along with the actual picture, in the file are details about when the picture was taken, with what, whether or not it was in an editing program, etc. Google, or maybe bing, was having "competitions" online, posting a random picture of a random location, and seeing if people could find where the picture was taken using their search engine. Also, i believe google was sued a while back for invasion of privacy by street view.

Got a link for the lights and housings you bought? -
^Didnt you post about a 350 Olds diesel a month or two back? Something about a neighbor was selling a car for dirt, and you ended up scrapping the whole thing?

I need the passenger a pillar and both the lower trim pieces around the doors and both lower a Pillars, lower dash plastic. Id pay ya for your trouble, cost of parts, and shipping to independence, MO (64052) if your up for it.

Because, compared to every other compact truck of the time, they were the best. Still are the best, IMO. Great offroad, great on road, extremely lightweight for a compact pick-up. Its a Jeep Truck, parts are easy to find, easy to work on, kool factor, sexy as hell, more fun to drive than anything I've ever been in.

The truly "custom" '86 MJ Custom.

tac weld, tack weld, tack weld. Just tack, then overlap it with another tack, then overlap it with another tack, etc. Good way to practice with a wire-feed welder, assuming you're using multi-position wire. Granted, this will more than double the time spent welding, but if you're not sure on how well you can run a bead, just tack, tack tack. '- 80 replies

No problem. Personally I'd cut and weld it in. Looks more professional, you know that the clearance issues will be fixed, and it looks good. But then again I get overkill with making stuff look right.- 80 replies

Little overkill on the firewall...and it still needs a bit more I think. edit, some pics to illustrate my thinking 86, unmodified firewall. clearance issue highlighted Post 86 firewall, difference circled your firewall, to me anyway, looks like it needs to be pushed back more against the pinch seam, towards the pass. side. Maybe just camera angle or something, but just what I'm getting from it all- 80 replies

mpace6a replied to neohic's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff

Why Is It So Hard For People To Spell 'comanche'?
mpace6a replied to johnny quest's topic in The Pub
I saw that once on CL too...also charokey, cherokey, comanchey, etc...must be a missouri thing? -
Look mean and ready to tear $#!& up! Those rigid light bars?

Just look underneath your jeep at the transmission. If there is a steel divider in the transmission, like below, it is an AX5. The T5 is an all aluminum transmission.
-
yeah, the dana 35 aint that great, my dad's got one in his wrangler, he's waitin for it to break  as for me, its lookin like i got a T5 after readin the comanche specs topic sayin that AX5 was used in 87 and up, Redwolf The ax5 was most definately used in 86. because it was behind the 2.5 every year of production. And it was the standard 5spd behind the 2.8 and the 2.1TD. And again, despite what haines says, the t4 and 5 being used in mj's and xj's is only rumor IRL
-
Never personally owned one. 2 friends and a brother, never got anywhere near the 20's, even hwy only. Not trying to argue, just all I've ever experienced.
-
Never heard of any 4.0 getting above 18 highway aside from someones dads brothers best friends jeep.
-
Given the lack of badges I would assume its just a base model. An X or XLS has an X/XLS badge underneath the comanche badge on the front fender.
-
It SHOULD have 4.10's Your transmission is an AX5. If its a 5spd it can not be an ax4 because an ax4 is a 4spd. Hence, the "4" in ax4. Simple way to check your axle gearing is to jack the rear end up, put the trans in neutral. Spin your tires 2 full revolutions, and count how many revolutions your drive shaft makes. Thats your axle gear ratio.
