  1. Yep, I've replaced mine with SS allen head cap screws just because I have them already. And Fastenal should be avoided like ebola.
  2. Too bad I'm on the middle of my engine build or I'd be tempted. These always seem to come around when I have something else going on. But this is what I really want- http://columbusga.craigslist.org/cto/4670911374.html
  3. Here is your trans.......and related. http://carbondale.craigslist.org/cto/4691210856.html
  4. Here is your AX5 with TC and 4.10-4.11 axles. http://lynchburg.craigslist.org/pts/4698478167.html
  5. http://smd.craigslist.org/cto/4701120145.html Here is a good running donor for you.
  6. Oh, BTW- The only bit it does not have is the T60 for the oil adapter but Sears has a Lisle brand bit on sale for $2.79. You guys might want to get to Sears in the next day or two.
  7. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-42-piece-1-4-and-3-8-inch-drive/p-00934845000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1 This set is now on sale for $29, reg 99.99 I had a $10 coupon and I bought this today for $20
  8. http://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/4690848127.html Here's your running gear......axles, trans and TC, linkage, 97up front end, rad support, rad, engine mounts harnesses, ECU, dash, seats, brake booster upgrade......etc............go find you a good DS front fender...... The Ravines are damn near worth the price of the entire XJ........most are $350++++ no tires. Scrap the carcass for $300 when you are done........cost you nearly nothing. Now, go ask your buddy for a good 4.0 block and get to work.
  9. 2.5 with 3.55s and an AW4 would be a DOG! OP, you got two choices- Get your buddy to give you a complete donor and do the complete 4.0 swap. or Get your OWN 2.5 XJ and do a 4X swap. And remember, nothing comes free, there is always a price.
  10. No. And the axles will need to be regeared. You need a XJ with a 2.5
  11. I've never seen those wheels before either, like those a lot. Thanks for posting.
  12. It will take you 5 years of driving to recoup your costs in gas. Apparently you are stuck with their rotors and it looks like factory wheels are out of the question. Have at it.
  13. Leaks can be fixed, engines replaced. Clean straight trucks are getting impossible to find........so price is up to you.......you got the cash......it's yours.
  14. Looks super clean, body wise. And you'll have some seals to replace. Price is relevant, how much?
  15. I will tell you what the machinist told me- When I showed him how much blow-by my 2.5 has, he said bore number one is worn out from being too cold or from getting too hot then having cold water forced at it. I've been running a 180 stat and I think I'll go back to the 192, I've already bought a new stock water pump.
  16. I have the 2.5 AX5 and the auto harness plug is included on the harness, it just hands off the firewall with the rest of the harness. Chances are he is not smart enough to realize that you need to install the TCU........I assume he thought you can just plug it in. Is the truck in the pic worth $3500? all things OK with it other wise? then yeah, it's worth it. TCU will probably cost you $35 at he PnP. Oh, and you'll need an auto TPS if one is not already there, they are the cheaper ones though.
  17. I replaced my own bushings. You'll need some basic tools and a press, along with some patience and persistence. They are a b*@$£ to get out, you are short of time, that's why I suggested having a shop do it. (and they may well charge a lot more than the $70 I estimated) Image Not Found
  18. Bear in mind, one thing leads to another, you may (will) find there is no easy simple fix to what appears to be a simple problem. I say that to warn you before you start putting money into this truck, your 'rust bucket'. You say the main spring is broken, how are you driving it now? Most yards will not sell a whole truck with title, do you know for a fact that your local yard will? Your choice- Order new springs from General Spring- $400 to your door. Comes with new bushings. or Pull springs from yard and purchase new bushings from NAPA, $100 Have local shop replace bushings $70 (?) In either case you will need new U-bolts $40-50 And you replace the springs yourself........you might get it done for about $250-300.........or new for $450 Don't forget shackles, chances are yours are shot. NAPA carries replacement bushings but by the time you buy the bushings and pay a shop to replace them.....you can buy new ones. NO! 2WD and a locker will NOT get you anywhere you want to go. I live in the mountains and I can attest to it. Be aware, my D35 had a tube that was spun, IOWs the perches did not sit flat on the springs, one pointed up to the front and one pointed up to the rear. Since you have a broken main spring, I'll bet your D35 has walked out too. And do not spend one dime on the D35 for a locker (or anything else for that matter).....waste of effort and money.....look elsewhere, I chose the 8.25. Trans mounts are $11 at Advance, buy one and take that strap off.
  19. In my opinion you are better off swapping the entire drive train less the DS (of course). You'll want a XJ shifter or aftermarket. And have a new DS made. The TC can be reclocked, I have a Wrangler AX5 that I reclocked.
  20. I would not assume your thermostat is good.
  21. No assembly lube in the bores, rings will not seat. I just picked up my block from the machinist today. Everyone I've spoken to from the machinist to ring manufactures....no long idles and get engine under load ASAP (drive normally) to seat rings.
  22. I disagree. Valve seals smoke on compression braking, when vacuum is high. Rings smoke on acceleration. If his valve seals have hardened/cracked........no longer seal......he would have oil bleeding into the combustion chamber at shut down and blue smoke at startup.
  23. Any oil that would have been on the bore and piston and rings would have gummed up.......somewhat solidified........however you want to state it. If you want any life out of it you need to break it down and inspect/replace.
