Need help/advice re: speedo cable
relyt120 replied to MJRemi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When I broke mine I tried every parts place around: napa, advance, o'reilly, auto zone. They all tried tog ive me a screw on type telling me it was the correct one. Eventually had to find one from the Jy. Long story short you probably won't be able to find a new one. -
Your work is so clean. I envy you good sir.

Perfect! Thanks!

Hey all, Does anyone know if the 97+ cherokee hood is the same as the 96- hood? If they are not what are the differences? Can the be interchangeable? I have a 99 Cherokee that I intended to use for parts but ended up trying to get it back on the road and finding a 96- hood is much easier than finding a 97+ hood. The reason I think they may be interchangeable is this ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-92-JEEP-PICK ... 3a&vxp=mtr which says that item works on 87-01 cherokee. Thanks for your help despite the non-Comanche question!

"Unicorn" Update.....The current state of the 4-92 built MJ.

As a UK fan I really despise orange but I really like the truck, its clean and deliberate and that's all that matters in my book. -
I see you've had plenty of interest  Can you post an update as to what is still available?

So I bought a "parts cherokee" and now its turned into a project to get the cherokee back on the road... its a 99 4.0l automatic. The drivers side seat bracket is completely jacked up so I'm looking to replace it and cannot find a suitable replacement. I have only been able to come up with a passengers side seat, can that work? If not can I possible use a seat from an 96- cherokee? The entire seat is trash so I really need to replace the whole thing. Any suggestions appreciated.

temp gauge not working!
relyt120 replied to buck_hunter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Should be able to get one out of a jy Cherokee of a similar year, I would stay away from 90+ if yours is 90- just to be safe. -the one coming off of the radiator controls the electric fan on/off -
temp gauge not working!
relyt120 replied to buck_hunter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you replaced it with a sender and its still not working then you probably got a bad gauge. I don't see why you would have replaced it at the same time as the radiator since it is on the rear part of the engine block, just make sure you are talking about the same thing that we are. -
temp gauge not working!
relyt120 replied to buck_hunter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You should check to see that the temperature switch was replaced with an actual sender. If it has a switch then your gauge won't work, also it could just be that the connector has come loose from the sender. -
Got it all fixed, and also replaced the alternator and the battery that the old one killed, back on the road with everything working like new :wrench:

The two dollar bill is an old strip club trick. Some places when you break a large bill they'd only give you $2 bills, so you'd be forced to tip at least $2, instead of one. I mean, this is just what I was told second hand. I've never been in such a place. I like them because people think they are no longer made but they really are, and the old ones are pretty cool.

speedometetr question
relyt120 replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just did this its a PITA.... After removing the clear casing from the front... You have to unclip the speedo cable, then remove the 3 rear screws that hold the left large gauge on (either tach or gas depending on your cluster). remove that gauge then disconnect the small eyelet wire that controls the PRND12, which sits behind the gauge you just removed. Then disconnect the wire harness connectors that go to the light box and the gauge cluster itself. At that point its just a matter of removing the screws that hold the speedo gauge in and switching it out with one that has a trip odometer. Then you have to reconnect the eyelet, reattach the left gauge(3 screws from behind while the rest of cluster is in place, such a pain), reconnect the speedo cable, reconnect the electrical plugs and replace the clear casing. My truck is also an 89 column shift so this should be exactly what you need to do, unless someone else has an easier solution. there are some pics here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14904
