IT finally happened to me
DirtyComanche replied to Akula69's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've done something remarkably close to that... Anyways, close the door almost entirely - observe the body lines. My bet is the door is sagging a bit, as most likely the top hinge has started to seperate from the body. You kinda gotta weld the thing back on if that has happened. -
What's unreliable about that? Tell him you need a MJ with a matching drivetrain so you can swap parts back and forth to always have one running.
-
The early 700R4s suck. Why do you think he's got a tranny with no miles on it? The other one exploded... Which is pretty typical. The good news is I'm pretty sure when they rebuild them they deal with most of the issues of the early ones. Anyways, if it bolts up, why not? It should be fine for you.

Old thread, eh? All the company trucks where I work are newer chevys. Mostly at least. One of them (an 05) is rusted to all hell already. Some of the other ones are getting bad too. And they all have blown speakers (but that might be just because they are company trucks).

There's actually some cool stuff: http://www.earthroamer.com/tab_xpeditio ... specs.html But wayyyyyyyy pricey.

silly tire question
DirtyComanche replied to smithe1811's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Lawn edge trimming works too... And you can generally get it in short peices for really cheap (free). -
I've seen 'em before, never in person though. There's an expidition vehicles section on parrot4x4 now, some guy had one I think... I had no idea they were that expensive though. I mean, I could build my XJ into a hell of a camping rig for 92K.

silly tire question
DirtyComanche replied to smithe1811's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you wheel, say no to bushwackers.. They'll get broken, you'll cry, I will laugh. -
Go to a lock and safe store... I know, you hate me for that answer, but there was one where I used to live, and they had every imaginable style of lock. Something wal-mart could never do...
-
How it works here is if it was factory, it's fine. So you can't take the doors off an XJ, or the windshield out, but you could on a CJ. Get a hunk of lexan and screw it in place.
-
Wow. Just wow. That's pretty cool though. Might want to breed that one. Could raise pigs without the smell. Could be worth big bucks.

He wants $6500 but accepts he's not going to get that... Before you trash the price, realize used vehicles aren't as cheap in Canada for the most part. http://bb.bc4x4.com/showthread.php?t=129149 All in all it's a nice truck, he rebuild the engine/tranny, regeared it, added histeer and various other things. Body is decent, frame is solid. Unfortunatly he did everything to it that I don't want it for. So, it's really not worth it for me to buy it. At all. Other than I still want a J-truck. Ohwell. I've spotted one in a field out here. I imagine it will be for sale when the time comes (when I have more time and space).
-
I'm looking for some pics, can't seem to find any. I've seen the truck in person before, I think it's really nice...
-
A guy who I've met (briefly, at a comp) and is a member of the same club as me (club is kinda vast, BC is a big area) is selling his J20. I might have to buy it. I might be a huge idiot. I might regret not buying it. I probably am a huge idiot. So much for saving for a house.
-
Looks like that one leaf spring is effed. It's bent kinda like mine was before I torched it off. You'll be glad to know you can reliably get $650 for that rear end though. All in all good score, even if things ain't all right.

Frt D30/D44 hybrid conversion
DirtyComanche replied to TNT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I guess if you'd dumped a bunch of money in your turdy-30 already, it'd be worth it. Otherwise I think you're better off getting a real D44. You want a bigger ring gear, we aren't driving toyotas afterall. -
I seen people messed up on Vernor's! :jump: I had to look up what that is.
-
Obviously my 'clean' lifestyle (that is, I don't use and I haven't drank in over 2 weeks) has left me out of this conversation.

I've actually heard quite a bit of good about the rockers for off-road prowess. Looking at the growlers I imagine they'll work pretty well. But yeah, street manners probably not so much... But tell us more as you use them. I'd really like to know.
-
Not all of them came with it.

And since I'm on the topic of weird russian stuff... I'll burden you with this video. Don't bother watching it all, it's kinda repetitive... http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=yJyWqlJM6GM It's one of my company's russian built KA-32 Kamovs with a simplex tank. I've never worked on one of these machines, but someday I should have the chance. They're kinda maintenance intensive. And I think we may be the only people in North America who are crazy enough to operate them.
-
It's a game here too... If you're into that. After all, what is WEROCK or anything else? We just don't do as much expidition style 4x4ing. Anyways, all that stuff was more military than anything, I think. Although the screw thing is just  . However, it does work for what they did with it. I like some of their other stuff that I've posted in the past, like the north pole exploration vehicles. And the (not russian) tatras and some of the other 'big trucks'. There's something I find cool about a 5 ton vehicle trailblazing. And that russian bodybuilder is kinda whack.
-
This machine is pretty cool... I like the start of the video in praticular. http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=8VOULfira3o&NR=1 This thing scares the crap out of me. http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=afJ18eJeNgU&NR=1 This thing is kinda funny, because it's not like the typical 6x6. The axle configuration means that it tends to sit on only 4 a lot of the time. However, it does appear to have a steering axle in the rear, so you have at least some directional control when the front tires come off. http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=aYfd4muY1 ... re=related Anyways, they're a bunch of

purple finders custom purple bumper
DirtyComanche replied to project88mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here, you made me look this guy up again: http://home.comcast.net/~engloid/workpics/workpics.html Scroll down through his work. He's a 'real' welder. As in I don't think I've seen anyone who can match him for appearance and doing everything correctly. He raped a thread on pirate a few years ago... And this thread hasn't hit rock bottom yet. -

If you're into the hot wax and leather stuff, I imagine it'd be quite close to welding.
