Light bar removal - security screws?
Blue88Comanche replied to grinch's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The position it's mounted on the a pillar makes a difference as well. Mine is mounted just below the roof level, where as my brothers it mounted slightly higher. His whistles, mine doesn't. But mine does have slightly more wind noise above 45. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Manual AX15 to auto AW4 and 4x4 swap
Blue88Comanche replied to Hippie66's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
. I don't think so, all ax-15s had 23 spline output shafts, the ba-10/5 and early aw-4s had 21 spline outputs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk That matches what the guy told me. He said swapping the input on the transfer case is simple. It should be a lot quicker and easier than swapping in the automatic transmission. Yes if you have the correct transfer case input shaft it can be swapped. What transfer case and transmission do you currently have? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

using the O2 sensor to tune a reducer?
Blue88Comanche replied to omega_rugal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The ECU used the o2 sensor to adjust the fuel trim, if it is unplugged or in error state, it will default to a pre set fuel trim. So I don't know what you are trying to tune, but if it requires a proper fuel air mix, unplugging the O2 sensor will throw it off. Running in parallel may be the best option. WJ Vari-Lok in our Dana 30?
Blue88Comanche replied to SBpunk's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought the vari-Lok in the quadra-drive WJ used different D30 and D44, because they had a pump in somewhere that could compress a clutch pack gradually to full lock if needed. Aside from Wikipedia i haven't actually laid hands on on so its all speculation. But i remember someone asking the same thing on here before and i thought it was decided it wouldn't work. I'd be all for it if it does! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk EDIT: Found this on NAXJA http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14443 -
tire size / speedometer gear question
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Find some way to check the accuracy of your odometer before you do anything. It's not uncommon for manufacturers to set speedometers to read a couple of MPH faster than the actual speed, even if the odometer is correct. I have a 2000 Cherokee and I also have my late wife's 2000 Cherokee. Both are bone stock, and the speedometer on both reads 2 to 3 MPH fast when going past th0ose police radar trailers that display your speed as you approach. FWIW, I've looked at a lot of tire specs over the years, and all the 31-inch tires I've looked at are actually between 30.4 and 30.6 inches in diameter. If you want taller than that, you'll have to get 32s -- which will probably be around 31.5 inches. Using GPS I can start to see a deviation in the odometer after about 1-2 miles. But when sizing the tire to the speedometer gear, do I use the side wall diameter or the rolling diameter of the tire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
tire size / speedometer gear question
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have no idea when I'll be changing tires. I'd like to cause I want some that are taller, but they still have a good amount of tread left. But reading 50 on the dash puts me at 52-53 actual MPH, while that's not such a big issue for driving, but 4-6% going to play a bigger role on the odometer accuracy over time, that's what I'm more concerned about. so for the longest time ive been using the proper speedomenter gear (according to the charts) for a 31" tire with a 4.10 diff ratio. but my speedometer is still off compared to several GPS apps. According to General Tire my Grabber AT2 tires are 30.8" tall, but when i measure them on the jeep the front is 29" and the rear 29.5" I also don't know if using full time 4wd affects the speedometer. So my question is after checking my tire pressure again when i get home. should i use a gear that matches the manufacturer tire size or actual installed tire height?

Continued observations seem to show the O2 sensor maxes out at 4.95v, the Short term trim then rises to max at 255. Shortly after the ecu switches from closed to open and drops the Short term trim to base line at 128. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Blue88Comanche replied to 87MJTIM's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The engine monitor works, here are a few things i noted on my drive to work: MAP and VAC, are in normal ranges Water Temp, stayed at 180-189 (Using 195 T-Stat) Intake air temp, 95-107 RPM same as gauge cluster Battery voltage, ~13.6v (gauge cluster indicates ~10v) vO2, less that 2v while driving Exhaust gas status, LEAN Loop Status, open loop while driving, DECEL (fuel cutoff) while engine braking. Knock Sensor, had some nock (less that 10) before the engine came to temp), about 2-25 while driving Short term fuel trim, 128 (ECU baseline) Long term fuel trim, 148 ( > 128 The ECU needs more fuel than normal to run properly) Pictures Coming Soon So for one reason or another the ECU is ignoring the O2 sensor data and using the base data instead. Very interesting. If more come available I'm going to snag one eventually... to bad he has not developed a clock replacement panel. I guess the screen is the limiting factor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Ax-15 Swap Concerns
Blue88Comanche replied to JeepFanactic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There is a connector for the reverse light on the transmission. I spliced the AX15 connector to the BA10 reverse light harness. The speedometer cable will need to be replaced with a longer 4wd version, as its in the Transfer case instead of the transmission. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Ax-15 Swap Concerns
Blue88Comanche replied to JeepFanactic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes Pete... I have the newer style NP231. When I compared my 2wd driveshaft to the newer TC there is no way the DS is going to slip back on. Do I need to get the older style TC to make everything work? I never thought abought using another strap to secure the tranny. The pictures cleared that right up. Thanks Your 2wd drive shaft wouldn't work anyway. You need to have it cut down in length or buy a shorter one. I'd keep the newer style TC, as the rear output shaft is sealed, where as the old one isn't sealed without the rear shaft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
front axle u joint upgrade
Blue88Comanche replied to fire797's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have C/V shafts from a v8 zj. I don't do any hard wheeling, but I like the handling when making sharp turns. If you are replacing just the u-joints you gotta take out the shafts anyway. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
My rear bumper, my brother bought a diy kit and had it welded for free by his high school welding instructor... it would have been less hassle to mount if the frame brackets where mounted when the bumper was welded. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Converting 2wd transmission
Blue88Comanche replied to kook911's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Both of the ax15 are the 4wd ones. From my understanding I thought I would need a ax15 cross member, trans mount, new pilot bearing and the shift linkage? My ba10 is still going strong. I somehow crack the casting to where the bolts mount into the bottom of the transmission. So I only have one bolt holding the transmission on to the mount. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't be doing this swap. the AX-15 and AW-4 use the same cross member. at least in the few ive seen in the salvage yard. you will need new linkage, I have the NOVAK cable shifter, but you could fab something for much cheaper. In my install write up i have a link posted to an alternative. what i had trouble getting was the mounting plate (shown with rubber Transmission mount installed). it took a while for me to find one 2482645506009 by Blue88Comanche, on Flickr 2482647306054 by Blue88Comanche, on Flickr 2482649506109 by Blue88Comanche, on Flickr 2482650826142 by Blue88Comanche, on Flickr 2482652466183 by Blue88Comanche, on Flickr 2482656026272 by Blue88Comanche, on Flickr -

this past weekend i went camping with my friend and younger brother. It was about 7 years sense the last time ive been camping. My friend Cody has been to Bushcraft lately and was mostly ready for camping. my brother steven and I where in the Boy Scouts years ago. I Made it to Eagle Scout, but Steven didn't stick with it. we loaded up the back of Steven's cherokee and the 3 of us set off for shepard state park in MS. When we arrived we checked in at the main office then set off to the tent camping area. The sites are first com first serve with no defined camp sites. So we where able to find a spot and claim it as ours. we unloaded the gear form the jeep and pitched the tents. after the tents where up steven and cody started on the cooking fire. while they where getting the fire ready i was preparing dinner. For dinner i cooked a whole chicken, potatoes, and carrots in a dutch oven. after a couple hours it was fall off the bone tender. on day 2 i started breakfast while steven and cody gathered and processed the woof for the fire. around 10 am, i started cooking dinner, i filled the dutch oven up quarter way with water, and dropped in some diced red potatoes and seasoning and let it start to cook down for the stew. while the potatoes where cooking cody and i scouted the nearby trails. after about 30 mins we headed back to camp. most of Saturday was gathering wood, hanging out, chating, and laid back. at 12 i cubed a roast and more red potatoes, and added it to the stew with some bacon and carrots as well. about 5 ish we added more carrots and potatoes, and at 7:30pm the stew was ready. As we got settled into our tents at 12am someone came driving through the tent area with their high beams on. As you can imagine we weren't amused. Cody and i got up with our flashlights in hand to investigate. we watched the car drop off 3 people then drive off, the 3 people then walked off some where, maybe 20 mins later 2 cars are now driving around with the primitive camping area shining their lights everywhere. they eventually stop and set up a single tent and we counted at least 4 people. we stayed up for another hour just to make sure they wouldn't bother us. thankfully they where quiet and never disturbed us after they initially drove through. Sunday morning i slept in but steven got up around 7 and decide to sit in his jeep, and eat my chips while watching netflix.... around 8 or so we ate breakfast and started packing up. I was surprised at how quickly we packed up. we opted to head home instead of staying longer. On the way out I stopped by the office to check in on out late night arrivals. and the college student said they did pay. So I thanked him and we headed home via HWY 90 and where home shortly after. Probably not the most exciting camping trip, but we all had a good time and looking forward to the next one. I'll be able to leave a bunch of stuff at home next time around.
